"using my complimentary night"
4th March 2013, fred804, Gosford, Australia
I was a little disappointed when I couldn't get into the room as the door was stuck fast! With a certain amount of 'shoulder' and juggling bags I got in. Same problem trying to get out!! And again... the bruise on my arm tells the story. Yes they did something fairly quickly when I asked. Then the handbasin tap wouldn't turn off without some 'manipulation'.. and the menu is fine if you want big steaks and chips...not a lot variety, or of choice for vegetarian.Staff were very helpful and polite. I wouldn't want to pay full price for this delightful but tired old venue. Things haven't changed much in many years
"Night Away"
28th February 2013
The location of Salamander Shores was good, with fantastic views of the Bay. Rooms are comfortable but needs to be updated. The building was showing the age of the establishment. Parking needs to be looked at, as there are many rooms but few parking spots near the rooms. Which was hard when you have a physical disability. Overall it was a good spot to stay for a night or weekend.

"Salamander"

Hotel is a great location. Sleeped well, beds great. Rooms a very dated and layout of the hotel re getting to and from the reception, bars and eating areas very complicated and very hard for disabled people.
"Great location near the beach and jetty"
13th February 2013, Sharon O, Brisbane, Australia
Salamander shores was good value for money, the breakfast was enjoyable, the rooms were spacious and the beachfront location meant that there was plenty of opportunity for walks. However the bed was too soft, and the interior very tired. The glass sliding door to the balcony was almost impossible to open and the air conditioner and tv were quite old and outdated. There were a lot of quite noisy guests the night we stayed there. It's good value for groups or families but not for people who prefer peace and quiet.
"Feletti couple at Salamander"

The hotel is a great acquisition for Accor, but still needs considerable repairs and maintenance to bring it back from years of neglect by former owners. Service staff were friendly and helpful. Meals were delicious and facilities (like pool) were clean and we used them. However, the pool's wooden decking needs resurfacing very soon. Bathrooms were clean and tidy, but mirror trim and bench surface stained. Having a spa, balcony and decent view were fantastic! Old box-shaped TV not a turn-on!Not sure we got our free (or discount) meal that we were entitled too, but we forgot our Accor memb card which didn't help. So, overall, yes, we'd go back again but feel even with our extra day the place was still over-priced at present. Try us again!
"Kodak in Port Stephens"
10th February 2013, KodakBrandyHill, Brandy Hill
The Staff at this hotel are friendly and efficient. Room was a good size, clean and neat.Dinner and breakfast were enjoyable. Free parking near to building. A good location for families with Port Stephens at your doorstep. We experienced some problems whilst in the room which were immediatley resolved by staff. Only ten minutes from Nelson Bay with great eateries, beaches and bays to explore. Kodak
"Accor hotels - you should be ashamed"
2nd February 2013, scottishman2, Scot in England
Great location .. I just wonder what Accor are thinking taking this place and putting their brand on it. The pictures on the web site were obviously taken using furnishings brought in for the day cos there was no evidence of them in our room or the public areas. The stairwells would compare to an inner city multi-story car park... filthy, with dust and cobwebs everywhere. at least they had strategically placed a yellow empty paint tub on the floor of the breakfast room to catch the rain leaking through the roof (I wonder what happened to the paint?? No sign of it on ny of the walls!!)As for value for money - forget it... premium rate charged for accommodation that would not be fit for a 1 star hotel...To end with a positive - the food served in the restaurant was good
"Family Stay"
27th January 2013, sydney
Great stay. Was better than expected after reading reviews.Views were good and we used all facilities at the hotel. Staff were very friendly and we were always greeted with a smile at breakfast. The downstairs restaurant even made special pizzas for my fussy son.If they had just checked the small details (cobwebs on windows), I would have scored hotel better.Overall, we had an excellent holiday and will definitely be returning .

"Sad Old Place"
7th December 2012, Dadnarg, Sydney, Australia
This sad old place needs a big facelift and some elementary maintenance. A coat of paint, and a flat screen TV would help. I couldn't see through the dirty flyscreens, and even the lift smells mouldy. We cut our stay short from 3 to 2 nights.
"My Stay"
6th December 2012, lizzytish63, Wellington, Australia
The motel/hotel is a little run down. Cleanliness is a little to be desired, pathways from the rooms to reception are dirty, Other than that it is a great location and the service was good. There was no noise during the night and we slept very well.
"Not Accor standard!"
20th November 2012, martinandmargaret, Sydney
This hotel is schizophrenic - the meals are great but the hotel is quite awful! It suffers from looking quite dated and is badly in need of repairs and renovations. Crumbling concrete, broken fittings, and a floorplan that would never comply with modern OH&S requirements. There is no access for persons with limited mobility for them to reach the restaurant for breakfast. A very dated, barely functioning TV in the room, yet the outlook from the balcony was quite beautiful. Schizophrenic indeed! To add further insult, the cutlery in our room was dirty, it hadn't been washed! We nearly always stay at Accor establishments, trusting that we will find accommodation of a consistent standard but this one leaves us with a bad impression. Don't Accor regularly check their hotels? This one is clearly not being checked by its own management.
