Foolishly I had booked a duplex 'apartment' via booking.com for my wife and to stay en route to Deauville. It was a dive of the lowest order (check your surroundings when ysing booking.com) so we booked into the Mercure fir two nights and it rescued our trip. Would be 5 stars but for a single surly waitress. Dieppe itself, though, is very disappointing.
We enjoyed a brilliant overnight stop here in a family room, 4 of us in total. We were so tired when we arrived having done a very long drive from the UK. Yet it was so refreshing to see a hotel actually bed down the room exactly to your booking. We needed one bed for a 5 year old and a cot for a 1 year old as well as a double for ourselves and Mercure delivered this, meaning we did not have to venture downstairs to sort out a cot! Few hotels ever get this right. The only reason I did not give this a five star rating is because there were no English news channels of any sort and I thought breakfast should be included in the price.
The outside of this hotel doesn't look like much, however on the inside it has been very nicely refurbished. Our room had soft pink chinoiserie details, done to a good standard. There is real division between the bathroom and the bedroom (wc is separate, as always in Accor), I can imagine it not being to everyone's liking. We liked it though. Staff was very friendly, and makes the real difference. Restaurant is nice, breakfast abundant.
Outside look 70's? Inside modern, friendly and spotless clean! Unusual enterance to room (through bathroom) but very comfy. Bed linen and towels changed every other day. Room heating and fan ajustable. Service helpful and friendly. Location very good. Underground safe parking (max. height 1.80 and a little narrow). Dog enjoyed the stay too and she has stayed in many hotels :) I would surely book again.
When we checked in we were were shocked at the state of the room. Whilst the public areas of the hotel are fine, if a little jaded, our room should not have been allocated to guests. The walls were scuffed and damaged, the was a huge crack in the window, the window frames had mould, the curtain had holes, and the chair and bed cover had stains. As it was 24 degrees celsius outside, the room was extremely hot. On checking the air conditioning, I noticed that we weren’t allowed to lower the room temperature. I telephoned reception and was told that the air conditioning would only allow the room to be heated, not cooled, and that I should open the window. The room backed onto a very busy street so once the windows were opened, the noise was unbearable. We were moved to a similar room a little away from the road, but the noise was so loud that sleep was impossible. The choice we faced was noise or stifling heat. As a result we had a sleepless night in a totally unacceptable room.
Really enjoyed recent 3 night stay at this hotel. Modern and comfortable with excellent facilities and efficient, friendly staff. Great location right on the seafront and a short walk from town and all facilities. Paid extra for a sea view, but if that's not important for you, the price is very competitive.
