"Nice View"
10th May 2012, jaye123, Christchurch, New Zealand
Was a nice room, bathroom needed some work on it, the floor flooded with the shower on. Over all it was a good value.
"Where not to stay"
4th May 2012, Turkey3000, Wellington, New Zealand
Hotel staff were professional and helpful but restricted in their ability to deal with maintenance issues. The shower had mould, the shower curtain was dirty, the duvets had no covers (inner laid between 2 sheets), counters and doors were chipped, hand basin was peeling. Smokers on the balcony allowed smoke to enter the room. Altogether a very disappointing stay. A $20 per night backpackers would have delivered the same or better.
"Our one night stop over"
27th April 2012, Christchurch
The room was small but adequate. The building is set up more like rented studio, (without cooking facilities), appartments rather than a regular hotel. The fire alarm went off on two occassions. There was no effort made to vacate the premises, there was no automatic response from the local fire brigade and no comment to visitors by hotel staff. I am sure there is some law breaking involved her and the situation should be investigated promptly. (Night of April 20th 2012).
"Very clean and close to ferry"
25th April 2012, mslrh, Auckland, New Zealand
The room was very clean and nice. We enjoyed our stay. We arrived very late but stuffs were very helpfull. There was a bar across the hotel and little bid noisy but wasn't that bad. Only one thing tho there was false fire alarm gone off twice late night so I have get up and dressed. Anyway we would stay again and recommend to others. Thanks
"Beware!!!"
23rd April 2012, CocoaPop, Brisbane Australia
I had booked this hotel online after viewing photos of the rooms. The room I was offered was disgusting. It was from the sixties and so was the mould in the bathroom. It had missing brown and orange mosaic tiles and the toilet didn't flush and the room stunk! A really bad offensive smell. When I asked for my money back because we would not be staying we were then offered a room that looked exactly like the one in the photo. Why couldn't they do that in the first place? Room 301 was ok but the initial shock of the room first offered would not allow me to recomend this hotel.
"Uneven tiling"
21st April 2012, pianostar, Wellington, New Zealand
Hotel is being refurbished. Rooms nice and clean. Uneven tiling outside the hotel lower entrance resulted in my husband having a bad fall.
"the mercure"
13th April 2012, taffyreidy, Wellington, New Zealand
the standard hotel room was terrible,it was like walking into a in 1970 motel room....staff were great and the pool was nice
"Drab Mercure"
12th April 2012, Melbourne, Australia
Extremely drab room. Not at the usual Mercure standard. I read a similar note on the Internet about this hotel but the note was written years ago. Clearly economics weighs heavily on the owner so don't expect to see an improvement until a new owner takes over.
"A standard room..."
11th April 2012, Auckland, New Zealand
On the whole the hotel was nice and the service good. The room was clean and as we had only booked a standard room, we didn't expect anything luxurious. However, we also didn't expect to get a throwback from the seventies and the bathroom was a bit poor in how it is set up... but such is the way in small towns. Picton is very picturesque and the hotel is very well situated. It was good for an overnight stay. One tip that I hope the hotel takes on board is that the front desk staff could be a little friendlier, even if they are having a bad day :)
"Like staying at Nanna's house"
7th April 2012, Christchurch, New Zealand
We stayed here overnight for the purpose of catching an early morning ferry, so our stay was brief. We had booked a standard room for a cheap price. We were quite taken back when we walked in - floral bedspread, with floral curtains, maroon carpet and dated furnishings. Although comfortable and clean it was like staying at Nanna's house. Not the impression we were expecting from the building front, reception and their restaurant. Location was great - a short stroll to the waterfront and shops. The hotel pool looked very inviting. Didn't experience much service except for checking in and out. Luckily we had pre-paid for the room otherwise we would have had to wait 20 minutes before we could pay and would have been late for the ferry. Our stay was adequate for what we needed but wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer.
"DISAPPOINTING"
6th April 2012, kiwifolk, New Zealand
Our first room most of the lights did not work, walked out onto the terrace and coffee had been spilt and not cleaned up. Decor old and shabby. Anyway we moved rooms, they made a big deal it was an upgrade and yes it was nice and new but for a Hotel of this quality/location this should be their standard. Looks great from outside but very disappointing.
"Overnight in Picton"
27th March 2012, XquizitL, Rotorua, New Zealand
Location of this hotel is great we had a wonderful view over the harbour and is extremely handy to other restaurants and shops. Reception staff were friendly and courteous. Our room was spacious and clean. The TV in the room was one of the old ones that sat on a low table, so lying in bed watching TV wasn't an option and the TV reception was ghostie. A flat screen TV would have made all the difference. Units have obviously been redcorated and look great, however, the bathroom floor whilst still serviceable really needed to be brought up to date with the rest of the decor and shower needed to be done too. These items certainly would not put us off staying again as the complex itself is very good.
"March in Picton"
22nd March 2012, Christchurch, New Zealand
Very good location, rooms very small for price, restuarant has good food and staff, Anexcellent place for exploring the marlborough sounds We did a cruise from the wharf and had a great day The meals and wines at meals were of an average plrice
"Great location but disjointed and weird setup"
21st March 2012, Auckland, New Zealand
This Hotel has dropped my overall rating of a Mecure Hotel. It has great potential. There just needs to be more money spent on it to make the 'flow right' within the hotel. To get to an elevator you have to go out of the hotel doors at reception wheel your luggage across gravel and go back in another set of doors. You get lost around the corridors, open up doors to try and get out that are doors that shouldn't be there or have have laundry stacked up against the doors. This Hotel just gave you a weird feeling. The staff tried to be helpful but I am afraid a thumbs down. We went out on a boat on Saturday and the skipper said that the Mecure Hotel he received the most complaints about so it really isn't just me.
"great location"
19th March 2012, maeveMelbourne, melbourne
we upgraded our room for $50 and had a great room with a view of the ferries coming and going, our dinner was very good and very large serves. the first room we were shown was very basic so worth while upgrading to a room with a view.
"Thanks"
15th March 2012, Brisbane, Australia
We were early as had arrived on a flight from Wellington. Our room had been cleaned and we were able to check in immediately which was a blessing as we had a wedding to attend in an hour and a half. Checking out in the morning we received the same professional service and leaving our bag there was no trouble at all. The staff member couldn't do enough for us, unfortunately I don't remember his name. The wedding reception was also held at Mecure; the staff were professional and friendly.
"Comfortable Night"
8th March 2012, Kiama, Australia
Hotel was selected for close proximity to the Interislander ferry and to the Marlborough Sounds wharf. Good sized room, quite and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Location close to shops and rental car outlets
"Picton Mecure"
7th March 2012, Melbourne, Australia
On arrival given keys, checked room. Torn curtains, wall paper worn carpet bad smell. Shower area out of 18th century.Returned to desk staff and was told what do you expect for the price. Went away and came back after all customers left. New girl at desk. Inga. Very helpful young lady. New room. small but perfect. Clean, modern Fresh. More power to this young lady. Very professional. Restaurant excellent. Great staff and Chef.
"Disappointed"
7th March 2012, Wellington, New Zealand
It was the old story - the room on the net looked lovely, our room was obviously in the older wing!!! Carpet stained and tired, bathroom tiles chipped - and how long since we stayed in a hotel with a shower curtain!!! I know we only paid $99 but the whole set up right down to the floral fraying drapes was disappointing! On the brighter side the beds were very comfortable!
"Good but needs some money spending on it."
2nd March 2012, Nelson
This was a great location - handy to the shops as well as the waterfront. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The meal in the restaurant was excellent - good choices and cooked to perfection. The only down side was that the rooms are really dated. (Looks like they come from the 1970's) They need updating and upgrading. Tiles coming off the walls in the bathroom and ripped curtains in the bedroom. The double beds should be exchanged for queen sized beds.
"Room movement request granted immediately!"
2nd March 2012, Sydney, Australia
We were originally given a "noisy" room - close to kitchen exhaust. The humming noise was enough to keep my husband awake - so we complained and was assigned a better and quiet room. Thanks to the staff on duty in the Front Office and to the Restaurant Supervisor who allowed us to stay in the lobby after 10pm to check our emails!
"Picton stay"
20th February 2012, Mareeba, Australia
The staff were very pleasant and the rooms were old but clean. The room had a good view. Amenities were adequate. Waiter service in dining room was excellent - ate there dinner and breakfast. The only downside of the stay was the breakfast - The omelette was not cooked enough and we still had raw egg.
"stay"
19th February 2012, Mareeba
The location of this hotel was great, out on the patio and look at the harbour. The room was old fashioned but comfortable. The resturant service was very poor, The omlettte for breakfast was so raw it ran all over my plate when cut.
