Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Mercure Eastgate Oxford"

28th February 2013

I would rate this hotel as 'good' rather than 'very good'. We paid extra for an executive double room which had a nice view, but felt cramped. The hotel staff were polite, though not overly friendly. Also, I phoned the hotel before we stayed to ask about parking, but wasn't warned about the £15 charge, so that came as a bit of a surprise. The location's great for exploring Oxford.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great location"

27th February 2013, Delcon7, Nantwich, United Kingdom

Great location and its own car park. Rooms clean but bathroom looking a bit dated and radiator not working so a bit chilly when emerging from the shower! Staff very friendly both on reception and at breakfast. Our front room (High Street side) a bit noisy with buses despite the secondary glazing. In all though a convenient hotel for the centre of Oxford and whilst not cheap for a night other hotels nearby are much more expensive. Would recommend and will be staying again when deals are available.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Decent 3 star hotel in the centre of Oxford"

22nd February 2013, Ard_2_Pls, Yeovil, United Kingdom

Decent hotel and reasonable price considering the location. Double room was good (slighty on the small side), some decoration improvements needed, especially on the bathroom window which gets saoked by the over the bath shower (i.e. peeling paint). All the standard items in the room that you would expect. We didn't have any food in the hotel (chose to eat out for both breakfast & dinner) so can't comment on the food. Stayed 2 nights and have to say can't remember a hotel where I had a better nights sleep, the bed was to our liking (i.e. firm, but cosy). However, don't expect to sleep in, as when other guests leave their rooms the doors closing are quite loud! Parking is difficult in Oxford, however the hotel has parking available but at a price of £15 p/night! Would be nice if parking was free for guests.Considering the price of other hotels in the city centre I would recommend this hotel.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "A good location from which to access Oxford!"

16th January 2013, samshingleton, London, United Kingdom

I have stayed at Mercure Eastgate Oxford several times over the past year. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly! The bar is very relaxed and serves good food. This last is very different for me as I usually find hotel bars depressing at best. The location is very good when one considers the price.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "December 2012"

31st December 2012, adrian288, Oxford, United Kingdom

Stayed one night in the week before Christmas. The hotel is well located centrally, and a mix of old and new. The bedroom was very comfortable, but bathroom and some of the fittings in our room were in a time warp from 40 or more years ago - plumbing needs replacing / updating.

Management responseDear Adrian 288Thank you for sparing the time to write a review. I have taken note of your comments regarding plumbing which no doubt will dealt with in the next refurbishment later this year.Best RegardsGeneral Manager

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Very pleasant stay"

7th December 2012, 837Caroline837, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

This was my third stay in this hotel in the Centre of Oxford. My room had a pretty view on Magdalen College. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The location is ideal : walking distance to all the main attractions and shopping in Oxford. The staff is efficient and friendly and the restaurant very good.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "An evening in Oxford."

5th December 2012, Mason06_12, Market Harborough, United Kingdom

The staff working in the bar and in reception were helpful and keen to be of service. Sadly hampered by the fact that just one of them working each area wasn't enough to deal with check out promptly on Sunday morning, nor to be ready and waiting in the bar for customers Saturday early evening. Whilst the cost of a one night's stay seemed in the range for Oxford centre, I would expect better staffing levels at the price.

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "oxford stay review"

13th November 2012, 19520, Eastbourne, United Kingdom

camomile teabags would be nice. bathroom could be cleaner.staff lovely and efficientit was the night of the us presidential election and a tv in the lounge would have been nice. I did not want to keep my partner and other guests away by my election mania but there was nowhere else to watch the results

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Great Location for an Oxford visit."

4th November 2012

This is a well locatied ,if slightly quirky hotel. To get into the car park I had to fold in my mirrors as the enterence is pretty narrow. Check in was fast and they offered to see if an early room was available as we were 2hrs early !The room was clean and adequate....the windows were not double glazed, and let in a cool breeze...(but guess the building is listed?)...so whilst the bathroom was nice and warm, the bedroom itself was a bit on the cool side when sitting around. But just a great location to be able to park your car and walk (we did a lot of this!) around Oxford...you are very close to the center (downtown), Certainly worth a stay...

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Oxford Trip"

31st October 2012, tidda, Prescot

I loved the location of this hotel as we were attending lectures, etc in the Magdalan College, New College and Merton College. The food was very good with no complaints. The hotel itself was very nice, loved the lounge.Unfortunately the only niggle was our bedroom. We had been offered a room on a higher floor but due to my claustrophic condition where I cannot use a lift, we asked for a lower level. Would not advise anybody to stay in Room 108. The view is nil (well an awful view of the top of the kitchen). This would actually have not bothered us as we were very rarely in the room but what bothered us was the dust on the lamps beside the bed and the dirty carpet and curtains. We did not complain to the desk as we had refused the higher floor bedroom originally, although we should have because we were staying there 5 nights.I would stay here again for the location, but would make sure the room had a better view and was clean.
