We enjoyed staying in this hotel. The location was excellent an very close to everything we wanted to see and go to. The beds were very comfortable. The only negatives were there was no safe in the room, and the pressure in the shower was not up to standard. And there are no lifts, so if you have heavy luggage it is quite a struggle getting to your room.View management response »

"Excellent location for seeing Oxford"
8th September 2013, David K, London, United Kingdom
We stayed for one night, a Sunday, on Accor's "Happy Mondays" offer. The hotel is really well placed for seeing the centre of Oxford and all the colleges. The hotel parking is a bonus albeit an expensive one.We were not expecting the restaurant to be open on a Sunday but were pleasantly surprised when it was and very happy with the meal we had.Nothing negative to say about the hotel other than we found the room a little tired (particularly the bathroom) and it could have done with more than a cursory dust! We found all the staff to be pleasant and efficient and although this is a chain hotel we found that it hadn't lost it's individual feel.Would recommend for short break.View management response »

"No Oxford Blues here!"
12th August 2013, FreenMarg, Melbourne, Australia
The Eastgate Hotel is close to most things in Oxford and offers big clean rooms and a bit of elegant ambiance. It fits right into the Oxford scene, facing the High but with its entrance in cobbled Merton St, opposite the Examination Schools and next to Merton College. Our room faced over the car park but this didn't cause any issues with sleeping or noise. The only issue would be the entrance as it was up four reasonably steep steps - hard to negotiate with heavy luggage!View management response »
Management responseDear FreenMargThank you for your positive feedback following your visit to the Mercure Eastgate hotel.I was glad to read that you enjoyed the spaciousness of your bedroom.Whilst I note your comments on the access via the reception steps, access to the hotel can also be made via the ground floor off the High street...Thank you again for your positive comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Mercure Eastgate.Kind regardsIain Waite
"Top of the range for Mercure"
18th July 2013, aclubmember, Essex
Compared with other Accor brands we never quite know what to expect with a Mercure. On this occasion we were delighted. I can remember staying here in Oxford on the eve of examinations 40 years ago and thinking how ordinary it was. Now there is a spacious, comfortable and light seating area with bar leading to the restaurant which serves individually cooked breakfasts rather than the usual buffet selection; to my mind a significant improvement. Dinner included truly excellent beef and well chosen wine. Our room had a minor problem speedily rectified by the staff. This is a Mercure to which we will return.View management response »

"Fantastic hotel but very noisy !"
30th June 2013, AbiCrampton, Cambridge, United Kingdom
Fantastic hotel in every aspect - excellent service , lovely room , delicious breakfast with the added bonus of a car park unfortunately this was spoilt by the lack of soundproofing . We were at the back of the hotel so it should have been very quiet but our room had a door adjoining it to the next room , this was locked but the person next door arrived at midnight , loudly ordered room service , sent room service back for more salad dressing and then watched TV until 2 . We had an early start in the morning which was the reason for staying in Oxford overnight so we were disappointed that we didn't manage a particularly good nights sleep . And it was a lovely hotel in every other respect so that was a shame .View management response »
Management responseDear Abi CramptonThank you for your kind comments communicated via Trip Advisor.I was disappointed to learn that your stay was marred by some noise disturbance from an adjacent bedroom. On the next phase of our bedroom refurbishment I will consult with our construction team to see if the soundproofing between bedrooms can be improved.Thank you again for your comments.Kind RegardsIain Waite
