Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "stop over in the Loire"

great hotel and location, bit noisy with some people coming home late at night otherwise very satisfied. very helpful staff and nice hotel, good buffet breakfast. travelled with our dog, small supplement to pay.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Superb Choice"

4th September 2012, LoveGermany876, Saumur, France

Virtually everything about this hotel was wonderful. The lobby and breakfast area were tastefully decorated. The breakfast was the most sumptuous we have had in many years of traveling in the US and Europe. The location was a beautiful setting on the banks of the Loire River, with a spectacular view of the castle on the opposite hillside. Parking was available for free. The only downside was the size of the room, which did not easily accommodate two people and luggage (the closet was especially small, and there was no place to locate and open two large suitcases). But in Saumur, one is usually spending little time in the room, so room size is perhaps the least important consideration. The hotel was also spotlessly clean, and workers could be seen everyday attending to windows, carpets, furniture and so on. One lat quibble is that one of the receptionists was rather curt; all other staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely return to this hotel on a next trip to the Loire Valley, which is full of sights, wonderful food, and abundant wine!

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Saumur and the Loire river"

4th July 2012, London, United Kingdom

I have been in touch with the hotel staff b4 departure to ensure my twin room had a river and chateaux view and I was given probably the best room at the price agreed. Staff were very accomodating on line before arriving and on site Rafael went beyond his call of duty so that we could send GAR forms back to the UK for our return flights. The hotel is magically positioned on the Loire river facing the stunning chateaux. check this link http://www.saumur-tourisme.net/chateausaumur_uk.htmlThe hotel is a 3 star but when you walk in the lobby and the room it feels much more elegant. Huge windows frame perfectly the viewsin th erecption area. The dining/breakfast area is incredibly tidy. The food and service were impeccable. Highly recommended hotel and good value for money.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Not exactly what was expected"

30th June 2012, Huddersfield, United Kingdom

Dissapointed that hotel had no restaurant particularly as it had river views and is not cheap. Most of the eating places are across the river. When raining , as it was during our stay, not idealHowever weather made us look for a restaurent on hotel side of river called Pierre Chaud. Treated our selves to middle priced meal and it was excellant - so made up for the dissapointment of the hotel facilities.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 5.0 out of 5 stars "above the call of duty"

8th June 2012, lockwood90, jersey channel islands

Always a smile from all members of staff but the little female receptions went beyond the call of duty by carrying my lugggage down the steps when I drove round from the car park.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Quiet Hotel with great views"

2nd June 2012, LondonChrisP, London

This hotel became a Mercure relatively recently. The rooms are up to the standard expected, and the bar/restaurant overlooks the river. The hotel is on an island and is therefore quiet.Staff are helpful and polite. There is no restaurant service other than for breakfast at present, but room service is offered. An excellent restaurant is nearby, and reception will book a table.Parking ids easy.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Short Stay in Saumur"

1st June 2012, philthebookman, Maidstone, United Kingdom

A pleasant hotel in a great location. The restaurant/Breakfast area provided incredible views overlooking the River Loire and the Chateau on the opposite river bank. The room was clean and well appointed but let down by the fact that it had been occupied by smokers and required a good airing everyday, helped by the effective air conditioning unit. The room location facing the road was prone to late night noise disruption. The underground secure car parking was a definite bonus for those that require it and the hotel car park was close by.The reception and restaurant staff were most helpful and attentive and I look forward to future visits to the hotel.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Lovely hotel in great location"

24th May 2012, GloucesterKdc, Gloucester

This is a lovely little hotel on the banks of the Loire. Our room on the top floor had a view of the Loire and across to the chateau of Saumur. There were 3 of us in our room and there was plenty of space for us. The breakfast was very good, and what would make the hotel perfect is if they were to offer dinner in their dining room. At present they don't seem to have the required kitchen facilities to offer dinner, although we did order dinner through room service, so I assume they have the meals brought in. Check and check out was very easy and onsite parking was available. We thorougly enjoyed our brief stay (1 night) and would not hesitate to recommend it to other travellers.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Perfect Setting alongside the Loire"

25th April 2012, gordonsapsed, Southampton England

We have, over the years, been to the Loire many times ( it's about 4 hours from the Cherbourg Ferry - which takes 3 hours from our home in UK). This was our first time at Mercure, Saumur, which is a modern style French hotel - think "Marriott" or 'Sheraton", with a slightly French flavour. The rooms are a bit small but well equipped - no soft furniture but a glass table, business-like chairs and a very comfortable bed. A superbly equipped bathroom with shower. Not a room you want to spend a lot of time in, except sleeping. It did include BBC TV.The breakfast options were amazing. Cold offerings included a dozen kinds of sliced meats, pastries galore, a variety of breads, juice from a fresh orange squeezer, hot options -eggs sausages, bacon. Impossible to not like it!Half the rooms face the river - we saved that extra money and had rooms at the back, but spent the money having a drink in the lounge, which was a very comfortable place to sit and watch the passing scene. Parking immediately outside is limited, an underground parking lot is 7 Euros, but there's another hotel lot about 100 yards away.We dined in an excellent restaurant about 15 minutes walk away - see 'L'Escargot' here onTrip Advisor. This would be a first choice for us if 'passing through' or staying a couple of nights. Not somewhere we'd stay for a week.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Overnight stop en route."

24th February 2012, Montastruc

Nice hotel, situated on the Loire river. Disappointed there was no restaurant for Dinner. The receptionist did not fully explain room service meals so we went out, after travelling all day. Excellent breakfast, with stunning view of river from dining room.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 3.0 out of 5 stars "a pleasant stay"

6th October 2011, Niort

a premium room with river view was nice but quite small. Saumur is lovelly and a sthe hgotel has no restaurant we had a lovely meal at a place on the square in saumur - les tontons ithink it was called. Fantastic steaks

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Great location and very pleasant and helpful staff"

29th September 2011, northwestenglander, Kendal, United Kingdom

This hotel must have the best position in Saumur, over loking the Loire towards the Chateau and the beautiful town bridge. It is worth taking the more expensive rooms just for the fabulous view.Staff were all very friendly and helpful, making this a perfact stay. There are good places to eat just over the bridge in the main town, so lack of a restaurant is not a problem. The buffet breakfast was extensive and enjoyable

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Disappointment at Saumur"

8th September 2011, Rodez

This hotel has a fabulous location overlooking the Loire, but unfortunately you only get a view of the town and its castle from the more expensive rooms. Consequently, we had to upgrade. This should be clearer in the online description. There is no restaurant. This is a major disadvantage when you arrive tired and hungry, and find that you have to take a walk of some distance across the bridge (in the rain) to find a good restaurant in the old city. Since there is a restaurant in the hotel designated for breakfast, which was extremely good, why not use this for evening meals. Other Mercure hotels in which we have stayed have all had food in the evening. There was a bar, but no-one was using it.The welcome was not great. There seemed to be too few staff, and it was impossible for one girl to be all things to all men. The underground garage facility is difficult to use, due to its limited space and concrete partitions. All in all, this hotel was a disappointment, although located in a beautiful town.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "a good upgrade"

28th June 2011, Blandford

when we checked into the hotel we were allocated a relatively small room. on futher investigating we managed to get upgraded to a much larger room with covered balcony great for sitting out on in the evening Staff friendly and helpful Pity ther is no restaurant but local places to eat are plentiful and good

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Location location!"

25th May 2011, HOLMFIRTH

The view of Saumur across the river, the joy of watching terns fishing from the dining room made the stay here very memorable. The room was a good size, the bed big and comfortable, but the bedroom lacked a picture or two on the walls and a decent bedside light in order to read while my partner slept. There was a good choice of food at breakfast but at 14 euros pp disgracefully expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful and willing to chat, but we felt sorry for the girls whose maroon tops with grey slacks were drab and unflattering. I would go again, but wouldn't take the breakfast unless it was on a special offer.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 5.0 out of 5 stars "This Hotel is beautifully located to see Saumur at its best"

17th May 2011, NORWICH (Norfolk)

We booked in advance for a quiet room with a view across the river ... and what a spectacular view it proved to be, at anytime of day or night! The Hotel is perfectly located to walk across the bridge into Saumur. We took advantage of the Hotel's secure underground parking facility. Take note, negotiating skills are needed to park larger-than-average sized cars. The staff were extremely welcoming, and no problems were experienced in communicating in English. We enjoyed a good breakfast ... once again with beautiful views. The Hotel did not provide restaurant facilities but a member of staff quickly organised and booked a local restaurant, confirming specialised dietary requirements on our behalf. Our room may have been a little smaller than expected but nonetheless a Hotel which we would be very happy to recommend, for we had a most memorable visit and certainly plan to return in the future.

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Shame about the food!"

29th April 2011, St Peter Port

Great hotel for location of the main building. However carpark is quite a distance away. Main problem is food: although the breakfast is good it is expensive and the service provided instead of restaurant in the evening is terrible ( expensive, small portion and not tasty at all!)

Mercure Bords de Loire Saumur: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Satisfied except for the paying internet access"

22nd March 2011, VERRIÈRES

Why do not offer a free internet access as many and many other hotels are offering (and even less expensive ones !!) ? It would really be a smart idea especially for business travellers who need to work in their room
