We were somewhat disappointed on arriving (in winter) that this expensive Mercure hotel had no restaurant, nor any restaurants open within easy walking distance. The great view (derived from the rather isolated position of the hotel), also rather punitively requires an additional room fee at booking (instead of being available to say early bookings or offered to loyalty members). That said the staff were extremely helpful and the room service food was excellent. Clients should have the option though to have the 'room service' at the bar, which would probably benefit the hotel in cleaning and staff service time, as well as turnover and margin. Rooms and bathrooms are modern, clean and large, though rather difficult to warm up. Décor is modern and looks fresh. Check in/out was easy. We didn't see any other hotel that looked suitable on booking or afterwards and banked on the Mercure brand that we often use.

Lovely place to stay on the whole but the ambient temperature was on the cold side especially in the morning. It is a bit annoying not being able to get a meal in the evenings as Saumur is old fashioned and restaurants do not open until 19.00 hours
