"ALWAYS ENJOY IT, BUT IT IS TIRED"
29th March 2012, W1NSTON10, Telford, United Kingdom
I have been visiting the White Horse for many years and have stayed there many times in the past and also during the various changes of ownership. The hotel is well positioned in the town centre and this is the main attraction. Unfortunately, and whilst the hotel has a lot of charming appeal, it is tired and does need money being spent to re-paint/decorate both externally as well as internally...there are few signs of even a small amount of updating taking place. The gardens are not looked after and neither is the front step/entrance swept clean; not a good impression. Some music could be played in the bar area and also the lighting needs improving (this is also important when viewed from the outside to ensure the hotel looks inviting enough to tempt you inside! Hope these comments are viewed as constructive; I do like the hotel and will return but it could be great!
"Olde World Charm"
27th February 2012, annomm, London
Historic Coaching Inn (Dickens stayed there) with nice staff and a central location in a delightful English Market Town and a fantastic buffet breakfast - wide choice; fresh food well cooked. The rooms are comfotable and the public areas are beams and comfy sofas with a nice bar and newspapers to read.
"Not a jewel in the Accor Hotels Crown"

This hotel is very tired. Basic maint is not being done including leaking guttering. Room service plates left outside rooms for a long time. It was icy no provision made so had to be careful due to guttering. The room was clean and the breakfast edible is the best feedback I can give this location. The waiter who served us breakfast, was, I hate to say in need of personal grooming advice. His uniform was filthy and the dandruff on his hair etc noticeable. The evening bar staff was very polite and as we were the only person there provided good service. Reception staff on the whole do not speak very good English. If you planning a visit here I would avoid it. I travel alot with work and for pleasure. I am a platinum customer with Accor and this is the worse hotel I have stopped in within their chain. A poster in the foyer mentioned being treated like Royalty at their 700 hotels...mmmm this was not the case here.
"Perfectly fine for a night as a business traveller"
20th February 2012, MKB30, Stoke-on-Trent, England
I stayed for one night as I had business the next day in Dorking. Very good location in the high street, friendly welcome and assistance to my room with my heavy suitcase. Hotel is a collection of old buildings that began as a 13th century coach house, so expect lots of low ceilings, stairs between different levels on each floor. It all adds to the character of the place, which has retained its feel despite being a branded hotel now. Room was clean and tidy with a large bathroom, armchair, coffee table, work desk and chair, flat screen tv and wardrobe. Had a good night's sleep, even though the bed was a little hard for my taste. Breakfast very good for £10 - full English available in a buffet, continental options, and items such as kippers, different types of eggs available cooked to order from the kitchen. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in the future for a similar stay.
"Tired but ok"
19th January 2012, teabags157, amersham
I stayed here with a group of friends using two twin rooms and three singles. The rooms in the old part of the hotel were tired and in need of updating - the decor, furniture were past their best!! The heating wasn't working in one of the single rooms so my friend was moved to a room in the newer section which I am told were small but comfortable. We could have done with more towels, another pillow (there was only one spare) and blankets in the twin room I shared but as it was only for one night we didn't bother to ask. Very covenient location and I would recommend to anyone looking for just one night.
"Dining room sub par"

We had dinner st the hotel Sunday Aug. 28th. I had the strip silrloin, and my wife the fillet. We both ordered medium rare. My sirloin came as ordered and was good. My wife's fillet came undercooked, raw in the middle. She sent it back and asked for it to be cooked properly, pink in the middle and not raw. it took 10 minutes to be brought back, and was till raw in the middle. So she sent it back again. Once more it took about 10 minutes. This time it was OK, but by now I had finished my meal. So we did not enjoy our meal. The kitchen should have shown more concern, and treated us priority. We cannot therefore recommend the restaurant at this hotel.
"Dorking"
4th August 2011
Serviceable but with a generally run down air. Combines the public house environment with a reasonable restaurant facility. Staff very pleasant. Could provide a better choice of real beers in the pub/lounge! Rooms are clean but the accomodation block is in need of some redecoration.
"Like a sauna"
2nd July 2011, Wimborne
Arrived at hotel having booked through the Accor website. There was no record of my booking and I had to suffer the indignity of looking up the booking with my laptop perched on the reception desk. After about 10 minutes they confirmed that the booking hadm't been picked up and found a room for me. The receptionist was quite unhelpful and rather abrasive. It was a hot day and the room I was given was like a sauna. I did complain but was told all the air-conditioned rooms were taken. I had to make do with a fan and open window. The dog barking next door to the hotel didn't do much to lift my spirits.Had the room been a confortable temperature I would say it would have been OK. Breakfast was acceptable

"In the Town Centre but Quiet"
27th April 2011, annomm, London
The room was quiet and comfortable; the hotel is right in the centre of this historic town. The hotel has a old world charm and pleasant bar / dining room. Great for business or a night stop close to Box Hill and places of interest.

"Cold experience.... otherwise ok hotel with good breakfast and location in Dorking"
16th December 2010, Oslo
The hotel room was very cold. There was a radiator in the room but it did not seem to be working (or they had turned off the circulation). I had to keep my outdoor jacket on when sitting inside. The night portier was not very friendly, but the day time staff was. There was no water in the room, had to go downstairs to the bar. Nearly 5 pounds for a bottle of water was very expensive. But draught beer at 3.5 pounds was nice. Internet connection was expensive, 9 pounds for 3 hours only. Apart from this the hotel was ok. It's location in Dorking main street is perfect. The breakfast was good.
