"Excellent!!"
18th May 2012, luisamosquerac, London, United Kingdom
I´ve recently stayed at Ardoe House for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it, has met and exceeded my expectations. The old building is gorgeous and full of character, the staff is really friendly and helpful, the gardens are just amazing and the river Dee, a few minutes walk from the hotel, is what we would expect in the countryside: wild and untouched, nice and clean, no pollution to be seen in miles around. The rooms are spacious, nice and comfortable; we had a pleasant nights sleep as only the birds would wake you up in the morning. It´s such a nice place! Only a few minutes drive from Aberdeen. I´d strongly recommend this hotel to anybody, they make you feel welcome and you will find all the old Scottish warmth, charm and passion around, in the people and in the surrounding nature.

"A Bit Disappointing"
24th February 2012, Suze33, Perthshire
Good location close to Aberdeen city centre for business or sight seeing but in quiet rural location with lovely grounds. Old parts of this Scottish Baronial style hotel very nice and staff all very helpful and frienly. Unfortunately the dreaded 80s accomodation block stuck on the back with a half mile walk through endless corridors to the room only to find a pretty disappointingly bland travel-lodge room at the end. Spa was ok but functional rather than luxurious. Louge bar good service and nice food. Restaurant (3 course dinner included in our package) pretty disappointing - nice decor again and friendly staff but huge wait of over 2 hrs for the 3 courses with no glass of wine etc offered as apology, absolutely tiny portions and main courses required side dish ordered with them which was extra (not much but I think it's reasonable to expect to get something other than just 3 small pieces of fish on a plate when cost of dinner supposed to be inclusive). If we hadn't had a late lunch in the lounge we would have been starving!! A cynic would have thought they were saving money on portion sizes and increasing your spend with side dishes and drinks bill due to the huge time it took! Breakfast pretty disappointing as I think you know when you see the dreaded bain marie fuelled buffet table - we both left half of what we took and it wasn't because we had eaten too much the night before. If had to stay somewhere in this area again might go back but would not choose for a treat weekend away again. Very disappointing compared to the Sofitels we have stayed in before although I realise the Mercure brand is not as luxurious it didn't really offer value for money.

Management responseDear GuestThank you for your comments. I apologise that you did not enjoy Blair's restaurant, we use the highest quality produce to create the finest food- I appreciate this is not to everyone's taste which is why we are launching a brassiere to compliment this following the refurbishment of our bar area. In terms of breakfast, we do serve a buffet, however on your next visit we state in our menu's that we happily cooked fresh to order. I would encourage you to take up this option on any future visit. I do hope you feel you can stay with us again. Once again I thank you for your feedback- I genuinely appreciate it Warmest Regards Peter Sangster General Manager

"Beautiful setting, fantastic food, but service sometimes missing"
19th July 2011, AppleAdam, Siem Reap
Set in the countryside, this is a splendid hotel - you will not find a Mercure in France to this high standard. Regrettably, the hotel does NOT have air conditioning which is rather bothersome when it is humid.Fantastic cuisine to be enjoyed with a very good selection.Avoid using the laundry service - absolutely useless at simply washing a shirt, and the price is extortionate.

"Stay at a Scottish Castle"
25th June 2011
I would have rated this hotel among the best I have ever stayed in but for two matters:The shower box was growing black mold both inside and outside the shower box; and the ambience in the dining areas could have been vastly improved by discreet, maybe classical, background music. It certainly rates very well in its "class" with the Accor group, but not the best because of the lack of attention to cleaning detail in the ensuite bathroom. With one exception the staff members were a delight, pleasant, professional, anticipatory and well-versed as to local attractions. The location is four miles from Aberdeen central and I was not aware of this when I booked. It could be a problem for someone travelling with no transport.
"good value hotel"
21st April 2011, edinburgh
Hi there lovely hotel/location. Rooms in need of a little sparkle few signs of re-newal needed. Garden area lovely to walk round and spa treatment very good. Food on evening meal very good & service. My only gripe was the breakfast room was a little crammed for waiters/waitresses to pick up plates used for the buffet.I am thinking of booking for july time and would recommend you request a room facing front of hotel on second floor as some of the rooms at the back are facing onto rather dull area to the back of kitchen area where staff sit which can be noisy.

"Overpriced, in need of refurb"
20th February 2011, Grimsby
Payed a lot of money for a shabby room with a plug in portable radiator.Grounds and main building are spectacular. The Gym could do with an update but is functional. The pool is excellent and would be perfect if the steam room was working.
