Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Great night's sleep!"

30th April 2012, C_S_J_F, London

What a wonderful night's sleep. The room was quiet, and the pillows varied in size from flat one to plumper one, so you can select the one you like! Perfect.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Mid week break"

29th March 2012, Stockport, United Kingdom

After reading some reviews I was hesitant about our stay. However we had a lovely time. Staff very friendly, clean comfortable room. No complaints. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat in the hotel.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent hotel"

23rd March 2012, Jill44661, Ashford

Have stayed here on several occasions, last time upgraded to a suite - very nice! Even managed to recover my glasses left on a visit several months previously - bonus! We have always enjoyed our stays as it is very conveniently located to the town centre. The staff are always courteous and friendly. Because the price is so reasonable we don't usually bother looking elsewhere.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent Stay"

25th February 2012, Sue O, Nottingham, United Kingdom

We could not fault this hotel at all. I would certainly stay here again when visiting Exeter. The hotel is in a great location, and offers very comfortable accommodation with excellent service. The room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom was very well appointed and equipped.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "excellent, but...."

22nd February 2012, ianhulme, Ilfracombe

Excellent stay, as before but I did feel that my stay lacked the personal touch that it usually does. The staff were not as helpful and attentive, although everything was very clean and tidy.I stay at this hotel often and do not often find fault and in fairness the overall stay was better than the last one, however we were not made to feel as welcome as usual

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Good hotel letb down by one bad thing"

20th February 2012, Bath, United Kingdom

Hotel generally fine but let down by breakfast being served by a waitress with the most disgustingly dirty and frayed plaster on her thumb. It looked absolutely germ-ridden and completely put us off our breakfasts.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Good"

19th February 2012, Manchester

Stayed in 'privileged' room, because it has free wifi - room was great. I used the pool in the morning, which was great too. I was a bit put out that when I arrived my card was charged £150 for £122 booking with no word of explanation. This ought to be flagged at booking (nearly everyone would accept it), or at least explained carefully at check in - just to stick it on the card without a word is rude. Otherwise, I would rate it a 5.

Management responseThank you for your comments, i am glad you enjoyed your stay. Please be assured that if you presented a credit card then at check in we would only have taken a pre-authorisation, not actually charged the card. The amount authorised allows for charging to your room account during yuor stay. However this should have been properly explained to you, please accept my apologies. Tim Howes, General Manager

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Comfortable, well-run hotel in very convenient location"

9th February 2012, PurpleValley, Cheltenham

We have stayed here several times. The rooms are comfortable, well-equipped (empty, usable fridges instead of mini-bars - big plus) and of reasonable size by UK standards. The hotel is a very short walk from the city centre, Cathedral, etc. Parking adds £10 a day but it is much more convenient than the municipal multi-stories that some other Exeter hotels require you to use. We didn't opt for breakfast, preferring "Tea on the Green" by the Cathedral, and we dined out, so can't comment on the food. But as a comfortable, quiet place to relax and get a good night's sleep in Exeter, we think the Mercure is hard to beat.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "A very comfortable stay"

31st January 2012, Bath, United Kingdom

We regularly use this Hotel and are very happy with it.Though it a modern hotel without a lot of character it is of a predictably good standard and when special rates are available it is good value. We normally stay in a Privilege Room and the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are very helpful. It's location close to the centre of Exeter means you can walk out to see the sights and having a car park on site gives it an advantage over other central hotels, though you do have to pay £10 extra for it's use.We do not make much use of the bar and restaurant areas as we prefer to go out and explore what Exeter has to offer.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Mercurie Exeter"

19th January 2012

Very good location, good facilities very clean. Leisure facilities are very good, friendly staff. It is very annoying when staying in such a nice hotel to have it spoilt by the feeling of being ripped off with the Parking cost £10 and wi fi cost whiich are outrageous.

Management responseThank you for your comments. It is our policy to exclude the charges you mention from our room rates as not all guests avail themsleves of these facilities and therefore it enables us to offer as good value for money as possible in our basic room rates. Tim Howes, General Manager

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Great location for shopping"

19th January 2012, Rawlingsx, Southampton, United Kingdom

Hotel very stylish and staff very attentive. This is our second stay here and is excellent for location. The shopping centre and cathedral are just a short walk from the hotel. Be prepared to pay for parking in the hotel car park - £10 for two nights but very worth it for convenience. Had the premier room and had a great two nights sleep. Food is fantastic at this hotel too - worth trying as it was better than the food we had in some of the town restaurants.
