"Excellent hotel centrally located"
19th September 2013, Brighton13_12, Brighton, East Sussex
Having a son at Exeter University, we stay at least 3 times a year at this hotel. It is very centrally located and provides the perfect setting for a good night's sleep after unpacking/loading the car and the long drive home. Staff all very helpful.View management response »
Management responseDear GuestMany thanks for your really positive review; we're so pleased to be your hotel of choice when you visit your son at University. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.Kind regards Fiona Darde

Lovely hotel, friendly and welcoming. Stayed in a premier room which was nicely fitted. The only issue was the extractor fan in the bathroom stayed on all night despite the light off and the door closed so could hear it all night and was quite noisy. Other than that would stay again and recommendView management response »
Management responseDear Jacq and KenThank you for your review on Trip Advisor; I glad you enjoyed your privilege room but sorry to learn that tht bathroom fan did not switch off automatically. I have asked Maintenance to check this immediately.Thank you for your feedback, we hope to welcome you back soon.Kind regards Fiona Darde

Previously an upgrade gave us a large room. On this occasion we were given a newly refurbished room which was disappointingly small. When we ordered room service we had to wait while the helpful member of staff had to bring a table and chair from another room for us to be able to sit to eat. Also disappointed that there were no biscuits provided in the room which we would have preferred to a coffee machine. The receptionist had not been prepared for our registration as Club guests although the information had been recorded on the booking.View management response »
Management responseDear GIllThank you for your review following your recent stay, I'm sorry you found the room a little compact compared to your previous stay and this caused a delay in enjoying your room service. It is not always possible to upgrade our guests on every visit; I'm sure you understand. We hope to welcome you back in the future.Kind regards Fiona Darde

The location of the Hotel was exelent within a short walk from the town centre. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. Food was good. Was not informed of the car parking charges at the hotel when I booked, A bit expensive considering we were staying at the hotel. Overall a good experience.View management response »
Management responseDear Jungle JimMany thanks for your review on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at Mercure Exeter; I'm so pleased the location, staff and food were to your liking. We charge for car parking as we are the only hotel in the heart of the city to offer secure, ample onsite parking for our guests. This enables us to offer more competitive room rates which are comparable to the local hotels who are not able to offer parking. We hope to welcome you back soonKind regards Fiona Darde
"Short stay in Exeter"
15th September 2013, HVHPORT, Algarve
We visited this Hotel in August, primarily because of it´s location. Our stay then was disappointing but we returned in September with an open mind. Regretfully things had not really improved, probably because of the incredibly high staff turnover. The room itself was fine and in general, staff were friendly enough. However the floor and seats in the dining area and bar area looked in need of a good clean, waiting for tea and coffee at breakfast for 30 minutes was totally unacceptable, as was being surrounded by uncleared tables.Reception even forgot to order our taxi on departure. This could be a really good hotel if it decided what it wants to be. The emphasis on business and hosting functions is too extreme and if it wasn't for the location I suspect that many tourists and non- business visitors would look elsewhere.View management response »
Management responseDear GuestThank you for leaving your feedback on Trip Advisor; I am so sorry to learn that you experienced delays at breakfast for tea and coffee service and your taxi booking was overlooked on departure. Please rest assured that I have shared your feedback with the management team, so they can amend procedures to ensure oversights of this nature are overcome.Despite your recent experience we endeavour to give our guest's a first class experience. We hope you will consider visiting again to experience our usual high standards.Kind regards Fiona Darde

We stayed in a superior double room which was small to say the least. We had a 4ft 6" bed which was very uncomfortable. The paint was peeling off the door and door frame in the bathroom. If this was a superior room I hate to think what the ordinary ones are like. The breakfast quality was poor and the food was cold. We have stayed here many times but will not be staying again.View management response »
Management responseDear GuestThank you for your reveiw, I am sorry to learn your stay with us was less than satisfactory and not indicative of our usual high standards. We will certainly address your concerns regarding the comfort of your bed and the paint quality on the bathroom door frame. Please accept my apologies if the breakfast quality and temperature of food was not appropriate. We offer a full hot and cold buffet and a la carte options so there should be no excuse for temperature issues. I have passed you comments to the Head Chef who has asked to be associated with my apology to you.Despite your recent experience we hope you will reconsider and visit again.Kind regards Fiona Darde

Great location and facilities, city centre was only 5 mins away. The indoor swimming pool was terrific.Great value for money as we booked half board, the food in the restaurant was good but the service was slow and some of the staff were rude and unhelpful. The room was nice and had a great view, however it was a bit small for 2 adults and a child. The reception, bar area and surroundings were welcoming and comfortable and a pleasure to stay in.We would visit again.View management response »

Good location a couple of minutes walk from the heart of the city. Managed to get the last space in the carpark at 1945. Room/bathroom/bed ok. There was no WiFi available in the room.Friendly reception staff, quick and easy check-in.Breakfast - food generally ok. No skimmed milk available. There was a queue to get into the breakfast room, not due to lack of tables, but because there appeared to be insufficient staff to re-lay the empty tables. Will probably use again, because it's convenient, and I can use my Accor points to pay.View management response »
Management responseDear GuestThank you for your review on Trip Advisor following your recent stay.I'm glad that your room and the service from reception were to your satisfaction. We have complimentary fibre-optic broadband throughout the hotel, so there should be not reason why you were unable to connect to broadband. I am sorry you experience a shory delay at breakfast, I will share your feedback with the team so they are able to take steps to address this.Kind regards Fiona Darde
"A comfortable hotel with good service"
1st September 2013, lauterbrunnen, bristol
My daughter and I spent 2 nights at the Mercure Exeter. The room was very nice and the beds extremely comfortable. The Bathroom was clean although we had a few hairs in the bath which we dealt with, otherwise ok. We had breakfast in our room and the first morning was excellent, very well set out, everything we requested. However, on the second morning, Reception rang to apologise for being late, the Hotel being very busy on the Bank Holiday and the breakfast we received was very poor, they had run out of fish which was my daughter's choice, so put 2 poached eggs and bacon on one small plate (I had asked for poached egg and bacon), therefore my daughter had to manage to eat her egg from my plate! However, on checking out and mentioning this problem there was no fuss, we were only charged for one morning's breakfast so we were satisfied it was dealt with very well. We would definitely stay at this Hotel again. Very central for Exeter attractions.View management response »
Management responseDear GuestMany thanks for taking the time to leave a review on Trip Advisor, I'm pleased to learn that the hotel met your expectations. Sorry to hear that we ran out of fish at breakfast on Bank holiday Monday, unfortunately we had much higher than anticipated demand for fish over the weekend, I'm glad that the reception team were able to adjust your bill accordingly in view of your disappointment. We hope to welcome you back again soon.Kind regardsFiona Darde
"Mercure Exeter Southgate"
21st August 2013, shawnbuck1, Sutton, United Kingdom
Good central location very close to cathedral and Central Station (which despite its name isn't the main station - this is called St David's). Friendly and welcoming staff. Beautifully furnished rooms with contemporary fittings and very comfy beds. Although the common areas (corridors etc.) look a bit 'down at heel', and the doors at the top of the stairs were somewhat grubby. Particulary the paintwork felt sticky to the touch and should be wiped down thoroughly every day. Whilst we were there there was a 24 hour charity marathon in aid of the British Heart Foundation taking place on running machines in the lobby, which was a nice touch. This is a good hotel at which to spend a few days exploring this lovely old city, as well as a base for visits to places such as Exmouth and Torbay.View management response »
Management responseDear ShawnMany thanks for your kind review following your stay last month.I am so glad you enjoyed the hotel and found the location met your needs. We will take on your comments regarding the corridor doors and ensure they are re-painted and cleaned more thoroughly on a daily basis. Thank you for bringing this to my attention; we hope to welcome you back soon.Kind regardsFiona Darde
"A treat indeed"
18th August 2013, flj1, Gunnislake
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. The service was excellent with very polite and helpful staff and the hotel was tastefully decorated. Our deal allowed us to be upgraded to a suite that was spacious and clean and we had a very peaceful night's sleep in a large bed with a comfortable mattress. We opted for room service and the food was both beautifully cooked and presented. We made use of the hotel's leisure facilities and since the pool was open from 06.30 to 22.00, we swam both on arrival and before breakfast the next day which was lovely. The hotel is so close to all shops and restaurants but without all the road noise and has secure parking on site. We would definitely visit again. My daughter and her boyfriend have also just returned from a stay at a Mercure hotel in Tunbridge Wells and they also had the same experience of a good quality stay.View management response »
