Really impressed. Good price, good location. Definitely stay again. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms for twins were two double beds which was brilliant. Reception found us taxis and chased them up then called for us when thy arrived. Great service.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Cardiff Mercure"

11th February 2013, Mercure531, London, United Kingdom

Do take a satnav. This place is impossible to find without. Very friendly and helpful staff but finding the hotel is a nightmare. No toiletries to speak of in the bathroom. In the middle of nowhere so nowhere to eat in the vicinity. Wifi in first room unavailable so they had to move me, almost as soon as I arrived.

Management responseDear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. Our hotel offers FREE wifi to all guests which is available in the lobby area, broadband is available via ethernet cable from the bedrooms. I can only presume that you were moved rooms so you were able to reach a WIFI connection near reception area. I hope this was not too much of an issue.Rest assured all comments will be passed onto the team.Kind RegardsLois

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "No need for apprehension"

4th February 2013, Beverley H, Bristol

Booking early we got a competitive, cancellable, breakfast-inclusive rate – but, beware, you will be charged 7.50GBP pppd for breakfast on site rather than the 16.50GBP pppd added as an online extra. Subsequent analysis of TA reviews left us apprehensive, especially when our second floor room overlooked a railway line and builders merchant – but there was no rail traffic overnight and no noise from the yard. Indeed, our only overnight disturbances were revellers – some of whom were later asked to leave the premises by the Police at the insistence of the hotel. Temperature for the room and the shower could be adjusted easily and responsively. Breakfast is not extensive, but was regularly replenished and remained at a good temperature. The bed was comfortable but noisy, the tiled floor in the bathroom could make it feel cold if the door was not left open, and there was a crack in the basin – and no batteries in the TV remote! The hotel could do with some decor in the rooms and public areas, and there is nothing of interest in the immediate vicinity. However, the hotel provides directions to get to the centre of Cardiff, or the Bay, on foot – but a responsive cab company will take you there for under 5GBP.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Great Potential - Doesn't Quite Deliver"

19th January 2013, Denmen, Tewkesbury, United Kingdom

Stylish and quiet rooms but hairs in the bed and in the bathroom (not mine) detracted somewhat from the experience. Shower virtually cold in the morning but not enough time to have it seen to. Simply not enough staff on duty resulting in considerable delays for drinks and evening meal. For the money paid it was good value, but it could have been so much better.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Hotel fine, breakfast very good"

17th September 2012, rbmac, Tonbridge, United Kingdom

I would, however, not stay there again until there is pedestrian or light-controlled crossing across Tyndall Street - it is simply too dangerous. I have seperately emailed Cardiff City Council, copied to Mercure, with my concerns on this matter

Management responseDear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel, look forward to seeing you again in the near future. With regards to controlled crossing on Tyndall Street we are awaiting response from the local council.Kind RegardsLois Holloway

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Reasonably priced"

14th August 2012, RosieD58, Warwick, Bermuda

Cardiff central hotels are very expensive and whilst our son was at university in the city we stayed 3 times at this hotel. It was a little tricky to find at first because of the road system. The rooms are quite large and they do have rooms with two double beds which was great for 3 grown up kids to share. Paying to park is annoying and the Internet was only in the lobby, although it was free.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Olympic visit"

8th August 2012, Jenny01402, Newark, United Kingdom

Very happy with everything about this hotel. It's a 10 minute walk to the center, the breakfast was good value especially if you have children as they eat free with a paying adult. The room was big, clean and had everything we required for a short stay. The bathroom was immaculate and new. Could probably get a hotel in the center for the price but would be happy to stay here again.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Watch out for the (disused?) railway sidings"

18th June 2012, Fastfootball, Timbuktu, Mali

A bit off the beaten track (and hence, I suppose, the cheap price). Annoying that you're charged £3 for the privilege of parking your car in the car park...as if anyone else might use it?!!?Rooms were OK - clean and tidy.think I was unlucky that my room was at the back of the hotel (next to the railway sidings which looked to be disused....that was until a 2.00 a.m. wake up call from the local freight train operators shunting railway wagons around).Overall, OK but too far away from any action (whether city centre or the redevloped bay area) to be handy. Worth staying here if you're after a cheap deal or if you have business on the local business park.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Cardiff Bay trip"

24th May 2012, jo_page2, Basingstoke, United Kingdom

Hotel was convenient to the Bay although we had to negotiate a large busy roundabout each time we left on foot. Rooms were as expected in an hotel of this group but unfortunately we had a loud neighbour returning to his room who insisted on telling the world his business at 3:30 in the morning andspent a long time knocking on a door to arouse someone else.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 1.0 out of 5 stars "Worst hotel ever"

22nd May 2012, lovejoy23, Swindon, United Kingdom

First of all, if you've arrived in Cardiff without your own means of transport, forget it. This place is about 20 minutes walk from the train station and you have to cross some pretty nasty roads and dual carriageways to get there, plus the fact that it's in one of the less salubrious areas of Cardiff. The rooms are very basic. There are tea and coffee making facilities although you only get one cup of each (someone mentioned that reception would be happy to supply more but that involves a trip to reception, why not just supply more?).The beds are utterly uncomfortable, very thin mattresses and pillows and in a stroke of genius, only one spare pillow in the wardrobe (in a double room). So a night of sleepless tossing and turning and every time you moved, the bed creaked badly. I spent the week before this camping and my camp-bed was more comfortable than this. The room was stuffy and badly air conditioned and considering there are no openable windows made for an even more uncomfortable night. The one positive point I will mention was the bathroom which was nicely laid out, the shower was good and powerful and large. Just one plastic glass in the bathroom though , which in a double room just seems like taking penny pinching that bit too far and on arrival at the hotel it seemed that someone had left us a present in the toilet. Thanks very much to whoever made that donation.I wouldn't recommend this place and certainly wouldn't return here. Certainly when there is an Etap hotel about 1/4 mile closer to town where you don't have to traverse the dual carriageway if you're on foot.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "not too bad?"

30th April 2012, Stourport on Severn, United Kingdom

good room, large shower cubicle, comfy bed, ok breakfast, down sides, no wifi in rooms, poor tv channel choice, pay parking

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "advertised as 4*?"

30th April 2012, youldy, Birmingham, United Kingdom

Very disappointed with the overall look of the the interior, was expecting it to work out to be a bargain, 4* hotel for less than £60, Reception/Bar area was about as plush as some youth hostels I've stayed in in Holland for £10 a night. The long dull corridors left alot to be desired and although the furnishings in the room seemed of a decent standard, the apperance prior to getting into your room was no better than an average IBIS. TBH the IBIS in Birmingham City Centre leaves this place for dead. When talking to the night manager, he confirmed that that hotel was used as an overspill for the much nicer Holland House Hotel in the City where I have previously stayed and was impressed with. In my opinion they should change the signage to that of an IBIS to lower expectations and it would then be well placed.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Comfortable and good value, but a bit far from the centre"

7th March 2012, drdjf48, Basingstoke

Very comfortable and good value hotel. Rooms at the back overlook a railway shunting yard, and there can be noise at night.Free parking for residents. A 15 minute walk to the city centre, across a busy road junction but worth the walk.Cooked breakfast was good, but less choice than some others. Friendly staff and easy check-in/out.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Disappointed"

6th March 2012, Calne, United Kingdom

THis hotel is conveniently located if driving to the Millennium Centre but parking costs £3 per day. The ground floor room had no net curtains so there was no day-time privacy from the car park with cars parked right outside the window. There was no remote for the TV but this was remedied. The shower tray has mould under the door. The heating.air conditioning was too noisy to permit sleep so had to be turned off leaving the room cold. Fortunately there was a another duvet on the second bed.

Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Shabby 4 star"

26th February 2012, Truro, United Kingdom

Not up to our expectations! Though we had found a good deal last minute, I did not expect to find the towels thin and old, toiletries enough for one only and a very shabby cafe style breakfast experience in an open area with a loud television. The bench seating had seen better days. When I asked for orange juice at breakfast, the staff member found that to be a bit of a chore because he had to load a box into the dispenser. The reception staff were however very helpful and professional.
