Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Relax in Palm Cove"

12th April 2012, Brisbane

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rochford ,the rooms were clean and had everything you could need. We had a one bedroom apartment which could easily have slept a couple and 2 small children. If I could fault anything it would be the bathroom lighting ,it was not quite strong enough. The pool area is exceptional and very well maintained and very relaxing. The apartments are very central to everything. The staff were excellent and very helpful, they arranged tours for us at the the last moment and nothing was to much trouble. Overall a thoroughly enjoyle stay .

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Quiet Oasis"

11th April 2012, Henley on Thames

Reminded me of a ski apartment more than a hotel, with a mixture of owner occupiers and holiday lets. Convenient and helpful reception, easy parking and well equipped apartment. Arranged around a big courtyard with a great pool with barbeque. Just back from the main drag so quiet, but convenient for restaurants. Great surf clothing store in the block. Perhaps just slightly faded but very good value.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Rainforest retreat on the Cove"

26th March 2012, Adelaide, Australia

From other reviews and staying at other similar accomodations in Far North Queensland we knew to expect that the room would be an apartment with self catering facilities and not a Hotel style accomodation. The check in was smooth and and all the staff encountered pleasant and helpful. The 'resort' appears to be a combination of live in occupants laced with tourist / travellers who stay in privately owned apartments ( under management). The apartment we stayed in was well and truly decked out. All the mod cons including washer / dryer, dishwasher etc. The apartment was roomy and clean. There is a lot of furniture in the apartment which gives the feel of compactness where there is really plenty of room. Visitors are required to service the room for there own needs ie, make your own bed, wash up utensils etc for the duration of their stay. Other considerations could be made through reception if required (?).Our balcony (third floor) was perfect for the rainforest feel with large Melalucas and strangler vines etc setting a fine view and backdrop to the modern lines of the complex. The large pool ( large) and the hot tub spa were very popular with all who ventured in (even when the rain was pouring down - it was monsoon season). The expectation of associated restaurants and on site catering is a consideration for Accor members as there are not any available. All dining is self catering and /or restaurants along the Palm Cove frontage ( other - up to individuals). In that area there is plenty of choice. Location makes the dining quite expensive but there is a good cross section of variety and styles available. The location of the accomodation is well sited and gives the option of walking back into the developed section of the Palm Cove domain or if you prefer turn right at the end of the road and the sweeping beach is yours to enjoy. All in all .. a great spot offering good accomodation for those who are happy to look after themselves and make the holiday vibe their own :-)

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Perfect propety with the excellent service"

18th March 2012, Horsham, Australia

We really enjoyed our stay at this property and also the service was good by all the staff . The room was just what we were looking for although the weather was not in our favor for the break we wanted . On our next rip to cairns we will definately stay there again and also recomend this hotel to our friends ..

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Palm Cove"

7th October 2011, Sydney, Australia

Pleasant apartment. Dated. Close to all amenities. Great pool area. Opposite beach. Very convenient. Close drive to airport. The whole complex is looking a little tired and shaby. Drink machines etc for late night needs is recommended.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "FIRST HOLIDAY WITH 5 MONTH OLD"

3rd September 2011, Newcastle, Australia

Very enjoyable. Great Location, walking distance to many restaurants & cafes and the beach. Excellent 1 bedroom apartment. Everything we expected & needed and much more. Beautifully furnished, 2 bathrooms, large balcony , day bed - Wonderful bed and play area for our baby.. Beautiful serene pool area - a little shady in winter though which made the water temp quite cold. The jacuzzi was lovely though. Easy & convenient access to restaurants, cafes & deli downstairs. We had a side street room above reception. Not quite the quiet room we had requested - due to traffic and 3 wedding receptions in resort opposite - but the fantastic filtered ocean view and treetop vista made up for it. Despite relative high occupancy & apart from above mentioned, the hotel seemed rather peaceful. Great deal booked direct online for 7 days. We hope to go back again.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Good apartments, very clean, spacious, recomended"

2nd September 2011, Melbourne

We stayed at Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade, they were very nice rooms, spacious, clean. Access to the room was slightly odd, the elevator was a long way from reception (at the wrong end of the hall way) and finding your way in from the car park at night was confusing (the entrance was in a different block). Pool was good, although could have been warmer for an August visit (I think the sea was warmer than the hotel pool). Overall very relaxing holiday, many places to eat (not cheap though), directly across the road from the beach. Only about 30 mins from Cairns and Port Douglas.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Extended family holiday"

28th August 2011, Brisbane

Excellent for extended families looking for comfort and convenience in great location. We used 4 apartments in total - all located close to each other - for a family group of 17 from UK, Japan & BrisbaneThe staff were very obliging - especially David and his staff on the front desk.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Relaxing Stay"

14th August 2011

We had a 1 bedroom apartment for one week and enjoyed every minute. The apartment was very clean but could use a bit of a makeover. The queen bed was very comfortable as was the double bed in an alcove. Service was limited to the front desk and cleaners who gave the apartment the once over about half way through the stay, which we had no problem with. The location is excellent opposite the beach and minutes from restaurants and coffee shops. If you want to eat in, food prices are quite expensive in the small supermarkets in Palm Cove. A better bet is the supermarket and shopping centre a couple of Km. down the highway towards Cairns.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Beautiful Palm Cove!"

29th July 2011, honeysucklej, Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Overall our stay at Grand Mercure Rockford was excellent. The only complaint would be that it is marketed as a 'smoke free resort' yet Accor (who we booked with) only own a small proportion of the apartments. Unfortunately, just below us we had chain smokers on the deck in a privately owned apartment who did not not abide by the Accor conditions and constantly filled our space with their smoke.Pleasant staff, great location and amenities.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Fantastic"

18th July 2011, St. Marys, PA

Our stay was fantastic. We stayed in a one bedroom spacious compact apartment with two full baths and a washer and dryer in one bath. We had a full size refrigerator and a microwave/convection oven. We had plenty of room to move around. The kitchen table was for six people. Kitchen was supplied with all utensils and cookware, dishes, etc. We had a dishwasher and a room with a daybed. Our 23 year daughter had plenty of sleeping space. The daybed was pretty much the size of a double bed. The staff was very pleasant, courteous, and helpful. When we checked out at 11:00 we still had four hours until the shuttle came to take us to the airport ( the hotel arranged for the shuttle) It was $20 per person) so we lounged by the pool and the beach. The hotel stored our luggage and we had access to the business center (we paid $30 for 24 hours of internet), It was definitely worth it since we were there for six days and we did not even use all the time. We also had access to a shower and restroom facilities so we could get a shower before departing to the airport. The shower area smelled fresh and was VERY clean. The hotel is in a very nice location..20min. or so from the Cairns airport, and about 30-35 minutes from Port Douglas where we took the Quicksilver Tour to the Great Barrier Reef. We did the BTS tour to rainforest...went by train and came back down on the skyrail. It was very nice and the tour was very well organized. We had a couple hours to spend in Port Douglas. We were glad we stayed in Palm Cove. It is a quaint village and was very quiet and not congested. The esplanade consists of hotels, cafes, little shops, and bars. it is very nice to roam at your leisure. The washer and dryer took quite some time to get the clothes finished but I guess it runs on energy efficiency. Although the hotel has a concierge desk we did not book through them because they charge 1.5% surcharge if you use your credit card so we booked ours through a travel agent down the street where there were not booking fees, etc.. We did the Cairns Night Zoo which is a five minute bus ride away. The bus cost $2.10 per person. The Night Zoo was fabulous. We missed the bus coming back so we walked back and it was a nice walk. Very easy to get back to the hotel. It took at the most a half hour. The pool was too cold to swim, but there is a large hot tub which we used a couple times. The pool area does not have much "sun" it is mostly shaded by the trees, but it is beautiful.

Management responseThank you for your great review and we are delighted you have enjoyed your stay. We do hope you have the opportunity to return to Palm Cove and choose to stay with us again. We also appreciate your feedback on our internet pricing, the $30 fee does turn some guests off purchasing the pass however as you have noted it is 24hrs of usage unlike some hotels that limit usage to a 24hr period. So by using a few hours a day it can easily last 6 days.Kind RegardsDavid HutcheonFront Office Manager

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Very pleasant stay"

28th June 2011

Great location, the beach was just across the road. We stayed nine nights in a one-bedroom apartment; two bathrooms; nicely furnished. The apartment was serviced on the sixth day. The hotel has a large swimming pool and separate jacuzzi surrounded by tropical gardens - the jacuzzi was pleasantly hot. The pool water was cold - not surprising as it is unheated and during June evening air temperatures were cool (around 10 degrees Celcius).Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Symes stay"

16th May 2011, Townsville

There seemed to be no housekeeping at the hotel as we stayed for three nights and the room was never cleaned, towels refreshed, beds made. A little disappointing considering this is meant to be a 4.5 star establishment.

Management responseThank you for your review,Whilst it would be great to offer daily cleaning we do operate as a serviced apartment complex rather then a hotel. As our rooms are apartments we would need to increase our price by a significant amount to be able to offer daily cleans. This is why we would rather offer a weekly service and keep our prices reasonable. We do hope that the other aspects of your stay were enjoyable and should you return to Palm Cove we hope you choose to stay with us again.Kind RegardsDavid HutcheonFront Office Manager

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Great beach"

9th May 2011, Cairns

Did not get the room we booked, one bathroom instead of two, one bedroom no aircon & no fan. Recommended only if you get the room you book. Price was reduced, but when you get to a hotel having booked a certain room & not get it "not happy". Nothing said at check in & price only reduced when i went down & complained.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent"

4th May 2011, Babinda

Everything was excellent. Service was very helpful. Room very clean and well laid out with everything you would need for a relaxing stay. You would have to come up with a very good excuse not to return.

Grand Mercure Rockford Esplanade Palm Cove: 5.0 out of 5 stars "GREAT GETAWAY"

4th May 2011, Cairns

We are locals living about 40mins from Palm Cove.. We stayed for 3 nights over Easter, and had a great time. The one bedroom apartments are lovely, with planty of room to entertain as we did with friends and relations dropping in over the weekend. The location is perfect right on the beach and close to all restraunts and shops. We made use of the fantastic pool with barbecue facilities and a great deck with plenty of room to relax. We will be back!
