"Shaky start but great finish"

I was in Kota Kinabalu with my teenage son to run in the Borneo Marathon. I booked the Novotel as I knew it had a good reputation as a chain. However, upon arrival, the room given to us was extremely smelly. I asked for a non-smoking and this did not qualify as non-smoking and the room also had another body order smell to it. I quickly went down to reception who immediately gave us another room (on the top floor). This was much better! The rest of the stay was perfect. Great breakfast buffet (especially with a teenager) and we ate dinner at the restaurant too which was excellent value. The pool was clean and nice to relax in and we had a mall to do some shopping in right beside us. No wifi in the room but there was cable internet in the room and wifi in the lobby. It is out of KK but it only takes about 13 minutes in taxi to get into the "heart" of town. All in all, a good stay.

"My First Accor/ Novotel Experience"

This is my first experience in an Accor/ Novotel property, I've always been looking forward to this, as I've always been on other properties when I'm on business trip.Checked into hotel just before 2p.m., my room was not ready. So I went for lunch instead in the connected shopping mall. 1Borneo. The really good part about Novotel KK is that it's connected to one of the larger shopping mall in KK. However, the location is far from KK city centre.But since I was having a seminar in University of Malaysia Sabah ( UMS), Novotel was a fantastic location to be in.As a business traveller, I booked a room with rates inclusive of wifi and breakfast. However, to my disappointment, there wasn't wifi in the room, and the LAN didn't work. The duty manager was very helpful and the technician also came to help me troubleshoot the non-connection issue. But in the end, there was no resolution and I couldn't use the internet in the office.The room was small, but very brightly lit, which I really like about it. The working table was very arkwardly position and the height was not very egonomical to work on.Bed was a little hard, but considered comfortable for me as I prefer to have a hard mattress.

"close to 1borneo but nothing else."

As we were advised the novotel was above kota kinabalu's largest shopping mall we assumed that it was in the centre of town. however this was not the case, as we drove straight through the centre and 15 mins out until we reached our hotel. The hotel it's self was great, looks relatively new and the staff we very friendly. as we booked a premier room we were placed on the 18th floor where we were given keys to a lovely large room with a spa. despite the fantastic room we could hear an annoying loud humming noise which sounded like our room was next to a large generator. sure enough we were and requested to move. the staff were very accommodating and did everything in there power to move us despite their lack of vacancies in premier suits. in the end we got moved to a smaller room with no spa but no humming noise either so we were happy. 1Borneo the shopping mall was okay, was very western with a lot of shops found in my local shopping mall back in australia and prices werent all that different to western prices either. all in all was a good stop over for a couple of nights but wouldn't recommend staying for any longer.

"KK's Hotel convenience . Novotel"

Good shopping right there at 1 Borneo. Also a good position from which to take sight seeing tours. Staff were most helpful and extremely friendly. Shuttle service [ free ] to city region was most appreciated. City shopping not as good as 1 Borneo.Highly recommend as breakfast was well presented with many choices.

"Clean and Pleasant"

Nice safe choice of accommodation. Facilities at the hotel were good with pool and small fitness center. The convenience of the 1borneo shopping mall was useful. Is abit isolated with little you can walk to once you leave the mall area.The mall operates a free shuttle to the city worth using.

The first time me and my family travel to Sabah but we decided to stay at Novotel 1 Borneo, even far from the city center but this hotel provide so many facilities: staying, leisure, shopping, sight seeing, beach also the best investment for the whole life: education. Located at the Jalan UMS (Universiti Malaysia Sabah) is the one promising leading university in Malaysia. By staying at this hotel we learn how the myth that go around for all the time for East Malaysia is just negative views. We are satisfied with all this experience. Cheers

"Great service!"

Stayed 4 nights and then moved downtown for another 4 nights at Horizon. Most impressed with the service at the front counter, restaurant and room. Whatever you are telling the staff, its working so keep it up. Being Gold Ad+ members we have stayed at Novotels in Brisbane, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Lisbon, Porto and Madrid in the last 12 months. Wife says to mention Ariana at the restaurant who had the biggest smile!

"Disappointing this time round"

While the Family Offer for 2 rooms was great, the room allocation was frustrating. 1st, the 2 rooms were small, and I asked for larger rooms (as I have stayed at this Novotel before). the 2nd allocation was on smoking floor (I clearly indicated non smoking as I hv my 10 year old son with me) & bed specifications were wrong. Finally, one room on smoking floor & the other 2 floors above -that was the best they could do. Housekeeping was in the form of a few young chaps who know nothing about PROPER cleaning. The bedsheets were soiled when I checked in & it took 2 calls to finally to get them changed & the staff smelled so badly of cigarette smoke. The bed sheet was not even tucked under the mattress properly! Used coffee mugs were left uncleared for my 3 nights stay. Lastly the mattress was lumpy & uncomfortable. I hope the services improved (esp Housekeeping) as it is an international hotel chain. The standards should be maintained.

"Fantastic Hotel"

Great hotel. Staff are friendly and a credit to the hospitality industry. Pool is nice and restaurants are very good. Food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. The hotel is a little away from KK city but there is a free shuttle bus running to KK all day so its no big deal. There is a bif mall attached to the hotel which has everything you need. I was sick during my stay and they were very helpful. Peter the duty manager even rang me to ask how I was and sent a complimentary bowl of fruit to our room.
