"Absolutely terrible"
22nd May 2012, Lemoninthepool, Sydney, Australia
I was in Tasmania for my (mini) honeymoon trip and spent my last day in this hotel. The shower was absolutely horrifying. There were brown marks over the shower and I contacted the concierge. The concierge came up and said they were just water marks and I should feel okay just because he was not able to rub off the brown markings with his finger. I was also told that for a building of its age (some 20-30 years) I should not be expecting otherwise. Absolutely horrible. I had to do without a shower on my last day.

"Comfort"
30th April 2012, HobartTownie, Hobart
Enjoyed a good sleep in a quiet, well appointed room. Totally enjoyed the meal we had in the restaurant and the staff were very friendly and professional. Nice touch with the bowl of apples in the foyer and nibbles at Reception in the evening.
"Brillant"
29th April 2012, Tungamll4702, Rockhampton, Australia
This Hotel was brilliant. We pay the same price up here in Queensland for a similiar size room. Launceston had robes, slippers, mini bar and Nepresso coffee machine, the Mecure in our area doesn't. The service was fantastic with a smile and very helpful. Will definantly stay again and recommend to all.
"Good Hotel for Tired Travellers"
27th April 2012, ghostsTravellers, travellers
We arrived fairly late in the evening from the airport with a very helpful taxi driver. We were upgraded to a better room for an extra $25. They told us that normally the upgrade would cost a lot more. We had a very pleasant room, good bed and a shower (not a bath) which we appreciate. We did not eat at the hotel. We were too late for dinner but had a drink in the Tram Bar which was quite quirky. We were only there for one evening but we ere quite happy with our choiuce of the Mercure Hotel.

"Change your cleaning chemicals."
20th April 2012, member26, Sydney, Australia
When i stayed at the Mercure in Launceston I noticed a very strong smell of cleaning chemicals. Not long after that I started suffering from the worst hay fever attack I have ever had. This lasted for the two days I stayed there. When we went out during the days it got a little better but on return it started again - full blast. We left the hotel to travel to Hobart and by the time I reached there the hay fever was gone. I have not had hay fever for many years so whatever sprays etc you use to clean is very bad for people with allergies.I can never stay at your hotel again as it made me feel so sick. This is a shame as ithe hotel is so conveniently situated

Management responseDear Member26,Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Mercure Launceston, please accept my sincere apologies that the hotel did not live up to your expectations.I am sorry that you believe the chemicals used within the hotel potentially gave you hayfever during your stay, I would like to assure you that this is not a common occurrence for our guests. This hotel and a majority of Accor uses an Internationally recognised brand that is also used in nursing homes due to its neutral odours and water based dilution properties. For our guests who have any allergies we can produce full MSDS sheets to show what ingredients are in each chemical, we have also well aired rooms for these guests and not used chemicals in the preparation of their room or for the duration of their stay.I was disappointed to read that you are currently not considering returning to the hotel, please do not hesitate to contact me if you are travelling to Launceston again and I will be very happy to con-ordinate with my Executive Housekeeper to ensure that your room is prepared with no chemicals in an attempt to prevent any further allergic reactions. I look forward to speaking to you soon,Yours Sincerely,Paul Morton General ManagerMercure Launceston03 6333 9999

Good place to stay, central to everything. Restaurant good for breakfast but menu wasn't inspiring for dinner. Room comfortable, bathroom good, nice to have a couple of chairs to sit in by the window. All good.
"Be careful when you make the booking. There are better choices."
11th April 2012, IHoHongKong, Hong Kong
I book two rooms via the web site, one is a queen bed and another one with two beds (queen + one) for the family with four members. During the check-in, I was offered one room on 2/F and another one on 4/F. I requested on the same floor and the lady advised that it was what I booked. Their offers are 2/F -queen +one, 4/F - queen. She further offered two rooms on 2/F, which were queen + single. For convenience, I accepted it. Only before sleep, I was unable to find the control of air-conditioner, then checked with hotel, then I knew there was no air-conditioning facilities, so fan was provided. Upper floors of queen bed do have air-conidtioning facilities. I was wondering as I would not book a room without air-cond. Since it was night time and I was going to sleep, we took it.One day later, I came back to stay with similar booking for two nights. I requested for rooms with air-conitoining. Then another lady explained that the one I book with queen bed is with air-conditioning, but the one of queen + single is without air-conditioning, but I can upgrade this room with air-conditioning by paying $10 per night. I accpeted it because I cannot sleep well without air-coniditioning. Is it tricky? Rooms on 2/F - queen + single without air-cond. Rooms on upper floors (queen) with air-cond but in fact you can pay more to be queen + single with air-cond.What I upset is:Why the lady attending me the first night did not tell me explicitly the differences? I was offered a lower grade room without knowledge. I was not offered the possible options. Nor did she mention about refund.Advice:When you make booking to this hotel, check carefully.

"great place on the other side"
29th March 2012, Cairns, Australia
Launceston Mecure was just a tantalising appetiser of all there is on offer in Tasmania. We only had a few days and were hoping to see more but so much to see and do in Launceston alone and the staff at Mecure made us feel so at home we returned for another night. The food at the Mecure was superb compliments to the chef and staff. Thanks for a great stay.

This property is well located within the city- easy walking distance to shops, theatre and eating establishments.

Good place to stay. I do not mind filling out the review but I do not want to spend time writing about it and if I do not write 100 words, I can not get out. You will find that there will be many people refusing to fill this out and will not bother completing the review and quitting which I am tempted to to now. Please consider this and if a customer does not want to write a review, let them have a choice to leave with a remark.

"Great staff"

Staff were very friendly and helpful - did our online check in for plane and printed tickets. Also gave us helpful sightseeing advice. Restaurant was good quality. Rooms perhaps a little tired but comfortable. All in all value for money.
"Book else where"
8th March 2012, Bendigo, Australia
Firstly our booking was mucked up. Had booked a weekend package which the staff were unaware, luckily had a copy of the original booking so could show this as proof of our entitlements. Have stayed with the Accor group in so many other places... Sydney, Brisbane, Geelong to name a few and never experienced this before. then this was blamed upon the trainee. Went to dinner the first night in the hotel told them we had $50 credit for our meals and again staff unaware. The next morning went for breakfast which was included in our package (buffet ) to our disappointment this again had to be verified. To this point felt as though we were being tested or staff thought we were lying! The mugs in the room were stained on the outside perhaps not cleaned or minute details not looked into. The place was very noisy to make matters worse hence poor quality sleep. Overall BAD customer service resulting in BAD experience.. Staff need to pick up their game. Also asked when the latest possible checkout was, was initially told need to vacate by 11am hotel policy then reminded that our package also included a late check out till 2pm! Thus adding insult to injury!

Management responseDear Trip Advisor Traveller,Thank you for taking the time to post s Trip Advisor review following your recent stay at Mercure Launceston, I am sorry that the service a the hotel did not meet your expectations.Following your feedback I have met with my Front Office Manager to ensure that all of our Team are aware of the inclusions of the numerous packages that we offer on our website and direct at the hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of the hotel if you felt that you were being 'tested' regarding the entitlements of your package, this is not how I expect our guests to be treated whilst they are with us nor is it the experience of a majority of people who stay at the hotel.Thank you once again for your comments and it is my hope that you provide us with the opportunity to look after you better in the future,Best Regards,Paul MortonGeneral ManagerMercure Launceston

"Good value"
7th March 2012, Cleveland, Australia
This hotel is very good value and is situated within walking distance to the shops, the gorge and eating places. A bonus is the car park. We found the restaurant better quality than many Mercure Hotels we have stayed in. Our room was comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly.

"Don't believe what you read!"
28th February 2012, Melbourne, Australia
We were thrilled with the price we got for this hotel considering its location, breakfast included and the list of other inclusions stated on the website. One we arrived, however, it was a slightly different story. We had assumed that our Mecure room would have AC, but on check-in and unpacking in our room we realised we didn't.A quick trip downstairs and we were told that not all rooms have AC and if we wanted it we needed to part with $30 extra per night. It was a bit warm at the time and we had some long days and nights ahead with our young son so we wanted to keep the room cool - so we paid.Another surprise we got was paying $6 a day for parking. This doesn't even guarantee that you will get a spot in the car park as we found out the hard way twice with a number of other guests. So you get to pay for the spot you cant use. Great with a 2 year old.Do you want internet in your room? Well, they all come with internet - you just need to pay another $16 a day for the privilege and no matter what you are doing at the time your connection will be reset at 11am so you had better not be doing anything important. The major positive of this hotel was the manager, Kaisha, who was fantastic with helping people out throughout our entire stay. She was one of the best I have met.The other staff we encountered do leave a lot to be desired - even having the gall to tell us on a number of times they 'had called our room but no-one answered' - even when we sat by the phone waiting for them to call and had no issues calling them.I can't recommend this hotel to anyone as there was just too much dishonesty or mis-educated staff to deal with. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Management responseDear Trip Advisor Guest,Thank you for taking your time to post a Trip Advisor review following your recent stay at Mercure Launceston, I am sorry that the hotel and services therein did not live up to your expectations. The car park at the rear of the hotel is a public car park, similar to a majority of parking in the city centre and as such the hotel has negotiated a reduced rate for our guests to park for a 24 hour period, this is also on our website. At times of peak demand for the car park we are very happy for our guests, especially those with children to park on the front driveway of the hotel and we will valet park their car for them when a space becomes available. I am sorry if the car park caused you any inconvenience and we are happy to refund our guests if they have had to find alternative parking. We have recently reviewed our internet pricing and as such have reduced it to a price that is highly competitive in the Launceston market$16 per day.I was very happy to read that you have recognised Kaisha, the Front Office Manager for her high levels of service however was very disappointed to read that you felt that other Team members were 'dishonest' towards you, a term that I would like to assure you is not true. Kaisha and I are working with the Front Office Team to deliver high levels of service to our guests, I am sorry that you feel that we have let you down on this occasion and your feedback is important as it helps us identify where we need to improve.I am sorry that you cannot recommend Mercure Launceston to others however it is my hope that you will provide us with the opportunity to serve you better in the future, if I can assist you in any way with a reservation please do not hesitate to contact me (details below).Best regards,Paul MortonGeneral ManagerMercure LauncestonH6331-gm01@mercurelaunceston.com.au
