Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Good Value"

- Overall it is of good value coz special discount in Lunar New Year- Location is not as good as Hilton, Westin or Ritz-Carlton as it takes over 15 mins to nearest subway station- Air-conditioning shut down after midnight as room temp rose up to 25 deg.

It was a good experience staying in this hotel. The location is convenient which is not far from rail-station and metro-station. The room is clean and cosy. Staff attitudes are good. It is a good quality hotel.

Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich: 3.0 out of 5 stars "5 star hotel with 3 star service"

At first glance the hotel is very high class. But, our 3 night stay brings out the bad side of this hotel:~The 3 nights stay was booked under my husband's & my member card. Same as the my brother-in-law & wife, who was travelling with us, they booked under both their member. When we checked in, they photocopy all our passports, confirmation letters & member card (only my husband & me brought the member card with us, my bro-in-law didn't). ~~The 1st night, we find that the aircon is not cold enough. So the next morning, we informed the front desk. Then they took our room keys & said that we were supposed to check out that day. We told them that we have 3 nights stay booked under different names. Then they found our documents & refreshed our keys. They let us sign the same documents which we have already signed upon checking in. ~~That night when we returned, my keys didn't work. So my husband took the keys back to the front desk & again they asked the same questions & again signed documents. ~~ the next morning, before we left the hotel, knowing that they keys need to be re-accessed by them, we left the keys with them saying that we will pick up when we returned at night. As it was our last night there, we went back quite late, around 11+, & brought 2 friends with us. When we went to the front desk for our keys, AGAIN they said that we were supposed to check out. AGAIN we told them that all documents had been photocopied by them, including the member card. But they insisted on seeing the original card! We told them that we have guests with us & we left our husbands there to AGAIN sign the documents, while they gave us the keys to the rooms.~~ The aircon has cut off time, it always shut off by itself in the middle of the night & the rooms became stuffy. We have to get up & on it again. But when we told them since day one, they just said that the aircon has problems adjusting to the weather. Nothing has been done.This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. But, they really lack service & coordination. Í'm really disappointed.

Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Nice Hotel but Restr Service was below a 5-star standard"

Hotel reception was very prompt and forthcoming - after showing my Gold Accor Membership card. Had a room upgrade. It was a pleasant surprise.I like the gym and the pool.However, the restaurant service was really not up to standard. I invited my friend to have breakfast on the 2nd level as I had an early appointment. I asked my friend to sign to the room and I would pay later.......the service person could not get the details of my card guarantee which I made at the check-in and wanted my friend to make the payment there and then......my friend did not bring his credit card and had only the room card. The waiter then went to the room where my friend returned and gave him the credit card swap to settle the bill !!! IN THE ROOM !!!!!This should NOT be the practice of a 5-star hotel........:(My friend had the room card and was in the room. The most the waiter could do was to have him confirm and then charge it to the room rather than have him swap the credit card in the room.My friend was furious and commented that there are no trustworthiness with this 5-star hotel and instead behaved like a 3-star hotel !Poor experience I must say and very embarrassing for me.......what can I say ? Truly disappointed. Embarrassed.

It is correct that our staff was confused by the fact that the signatory of the bill was not the registered customer, hence his decision to follow your friend to the room. We do agree that the whole situation should have been handled with more diplomatic skills and we are enforcing trainings in this area.

Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Good Value but still persisting problems"

Very nice hotel but still suffers for lack of service in key areas.Reception remains an issue. Check-in and check-out can take way too long.On this trip the Chinese restaurant on-site Le Chinois was a complete and utter struggle. The electornic menus are configured all wrong and very slow. It took too long to grasp the menu. The general wait staff were terribly inexperienced and had to keep on calling the management staff. Even to pour wine! The first 5 selections I made on the menu were not available!! Completely unexpectable for a suppsed upper class restaurant. When I was told something was available I was then told later it wasn't! Therefore we eneded staying for dinner much longer than expected, upset and not happy with our ultimate selection of food.

Management responseThank you for your constructive comments, we have taken them on board very seriously. The use of electronic menus in our Chinese restaurant was a trial, we have now decided to go back to the traditional printed menus.

Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Nice Stay in Sofitel Guangzhou"

My stay at Sofitel was almost perfect, with spacious room, beautiful bathroom, comfortable bedding and very attentive staff.Taxi is easily available at the hotel to go out but different story to come back, as it can be very difficult to get taxi during peak hours and impossible to get during their changing of shifts, as most taxi drivers avoid the street outside of the hotel area due to massive jam. Alternative option is to use subway to come back during peak hours except a rather long walk of 20 minutes fromTiYu XiLu Station to reach the hotel. A suggestion is for the hotel to provide shuttle service to the subway station. It would be perfect!Service at Front Office was perfect during day time but can be horrendous late at night as there is only one staff serving the whole hotel of almost 500 rooms. I experienced it myself when poor FO staff Cara Ji was swamped with 7 to 8 guests requesting for urgent services but could not cope with it. I advised her to call and get help from Duty Manager which never arrived. Suggest Sofitel to add another staff for late night duty as there are many guests arrived and check-in after midnight.
