We where in Dunedin for my daughters graduation. Left it a little late to book accommodation, but luckily we where able to get into the Mercure. I certainly would stay again. The room was clean, bed very comfy and staff friendly.
Many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. We are delighted that our contribution to the graduation festivities was up to scratch and hope to be of service to you again in the near future. Thanks for the feedback.
Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly manner. We were over an hour early so our room was not ready which was no problem at all. We checked in anyway and left to return later in the afternoon. On return we picked up the key and put our things in the room. Still good so far. We went out with my daughter and her partner for a belated 21st dinner. After an enjoyable evening we stopped by on our way back to pick up some things from our room. Hmmmm seems that we had to park in almost the furthest park from our room. The reason, lets see there were 3 trailers taking up parks, what the heck !!!! Surely they belonged to other guests but why were they not asked to put them in parks at the rear? Foolishly we ventured out again and dropped my daughter and partner home. Back again and wouldn't you know it this time we were in the absolute last park a long way from our room. On our walk through the carpark we noticed two cars parking in the middle of parks. Maybe to avoid damage from others parking too close. I pointed this out to the person on the desk and mentioned the trailers too. They took the information on board but perhaps contacting the guests (you have there plate numbers linked to their rooms) and asking them to park reasonably would have been a better option. Never mind off to bed...Mattress was unsleepable. Huge rolloff to either side. So after a night of tossing and turning the noise of 3am showering and giant thumping footsteps didn't wake me because I had hardly managed to sleep. Checked out the next morning. Maybe should have taken the time to mention all the issues or maybe called the front desk after trying to sleep for a few hours, but we didn't , our mistake. Still mattress should have been replaced long ago and noise from other guests should have been dealt with, it was loud enough to hear from reception easily. Last time staying....ever. On a happy note the price was very good...but for a reason I now believe
Please accept our apology your stay was not enjoyable as it could have been. Had you let our reception staff know you were having issues during the night (someone is in attendance 24 hours a day), they would have gladly assisted you where possible or even transferred you to another room if that would have helped. This applies to any hotel you stay in - tell us while in house if you have an issue and give us the opportunity to remedy it as we genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. Regarding parking, it is free and on a first come, first served basis. We are one of the few hotels in Dunedin that provide free parking and there is no designated parking relating to guest rooms. A walk from any part of our car park to a guest room is a maximum of 2 minutes. We thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.
Clean and tidy as you would expect, the room was quiet despite the hotel being very full. Staff were friendly and accommodating .Only down side was no aircon in the room , it was very hot ( 29.2 c ) during the day and muggy at night . Perhaps something Dunedin isn't accustomed to . Good car parking flat walk to restaurants and shops.
Thanks very much for your lovely review detailing your experience at our hotel. It is true Dunedin rarely has really hot days during summer such as you experienced - less than a handful in fact. We apologise this dampened your stay. For our readers, you can approach the reception team who will provide a fan to cool down your room. Thanks for taking the time to post.
We enjoyed exploring the gardens that stayed open late and preferred the quiet location for our stay. Great advice and able to store our luggage. Suited our needs perfectly. Breakfast was good and parking was no problem.
Thanks ever so much for your accurate and kind review. The staff here work exceptionally hard to get the experience right for every guest. We are delighted we were able to meet most of your needs.
Cheap hotel no air conditioning, tiny bathroom, cafeteria type food and selection my meal was terrible not eaten. Needs Ramsey over haul. Breakfast was OK. Food area was empty others down the street were full. 2 only red wines on the Menu Coke was flat in our drinks. friendly staff.
Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. While we may not agree with many of the comments made in your review, we do appreciate you taking the time to tell us of your experience and will evaluate your review with a view to making improvements, were appropriate.
Beautiful gardens & setting, old brewery remains was a surprise (now a function room). Across the road are the botanical gardens, beautiful this time of year, not far from the university & steepest street in the world, Baldwin Street. Rooms are not overly large, only because you have 2 double beds, small balcony, garden views, small shower. Restaurant food was good, service was fine. Plenty of free parking, hotel is at the end of the CBD, easy access from both north & south bound highways. We drove into town for the Chinese Gardens (free parking), museums, train station, shops, octagon & restaurants etc (paid parking).
