Wonderful Art Deco building. Very peaceful place except with the door open - then you can listen to announcements (in Vietnamese) from the train station 24/7!

"very good hotel"
29th April 2012, michaelfrodsham, Frodsham, United Kingdom
La Residence offered an excellent deal at the time we stayed and it proved very good value. The hotel was modern and very well kept. The hotel grounds were very attractive both night and day. The rooms were good value and we chose to upgrade to a river view room for a reasonable cost. Like all the upmarket hotels the food and drink prices were somewhat high considering the external prices in Vietnam. The staff were uniformly excellent and helpful. The only downside was that it was a little way out of the centre and , as there was a heatwave when we were there ,we did not venture out as much as we would normally have done. We saw the other hotels in this price range from the outside and definitely felt that La Residence was the best choice in Hue

Management responseDear michaelfrodshamFirst of all I would like to thank you on behalf of the entire team for the very kind and positive review you have recently posted on Trip Advisor. The team will be very rewarded to read your comments in particular the modern hotel, good value (even with low competition prices externally) and your title rating as a very good hotel. The location of La Residence is a little out of the center for you however this does add to the serenity that is appealing to many guests. Finally thank you so much for choosing our hotel for your recent visit to Hue and please do let me know if you plan to return in the future.Warmest RegardsAnthony J. "best place in town"
18th April 2012, brandenburg5, London, UK
We really enjoyed our stay at the Residence - the large room with a balcony and view of the river was beautiful, the staff were well trained and helpful, everything just right. The restaurant is by far the best place to eat in town; in fact other restaurants were rather disappointing, compared to Hanoi.

"Outstanding Boutique Hotel on the Perfume River"
9th April 2012, Gavin W, Yokohama
We stayed for a week here and would strongly recommend it to other travellers. We were upgraded to a suite on the Accor Gold Card and had a wonderful balcony with glorious views of the river. the room itself was spacious and comfortable with all the facilities you would expect. The hotel's strongest points are its staff, the decor, its location and the pool. The staff, headed by Anthony the manager, are among the best we have come across in years of travelling. The service is geniunely friendly and helpful and far removed from the autuomated deference you so often receive in large five-star hotels. We were treated rather more as welcome house guests and this made the stay all the more pleasing. Particlar mention should be given to the front desk members Tam, Nguyet, Loan and Loan; and Dung and Thi in the restaurant. We even received a Get Well card when my wife and I caught colds along with numerous offers to get doctors and medicine. The concern was honest and appreciated. The decor will have been noticed by anyone who has taken the trouble to glance at the website. It is very "Les Années 25" and it works and it's fun. The place is just screaming for film location scouts and script writers to come and make up some Poirot pastiche called "Death on the Perfume River". Which brings us to the hotel's location. The riverside idyll can be made to work so well for hotels. The gentle parade of life along the river, the restful sunsets and the excursion opportunities all enhance the stay. The pool is large, deep and, I believe, salty. This is an option which I think more hotels should go with. The visiblity under the water was great, it was good to swim in and didn't have the smells and stings of many pools. A great decision. My one piece of advice to other travellers would be to stay a little longer. During our week we saw many people come and go and overheard many a conversation expressing regret that they could not stay another night. Travellers tend to charge through Hue in a day on the way to or from Hoi An. We visited Hoi An on a day trip (thanks Anthony) but believe Hue, with the royal tombs, the Citadel, the river and La Residence is worth a longer stay.

"Time capsule"
23rd February 2012, Seoul
Context: we finished our short, off-season trip across the region with a ‘urban’ stay in downtown Hue (La Residence) to enjoy the city to its fullest, after one stop in Hoi An, and another in the ‘greener’ Pilgrimage Village Resort (just a few kilometers South of Hue). At La Residence, you feel like in a very comfortable time capsule, and the 'art deco' statement definitely helps: every single detail is crafted accordingly, from the architecture to the typo on the walls, from the pieces of furniture to the cutlery. The view on Perfume River, relatively protected here compared to other parts of the city, completes the trick, and the constant rain even added to the special atmosphere (February was certainly not the best season to enjoy the gardens, and the pool was under renovation, but the fitness center was just fine, and we came for the city). ‘Le Parfum’ confirms its excellent reputation, with an exciting menu for both Vietnamese and Western cuisines , and a non-stop 11:30-23:00 lunch/dinner service. The space and river view contribute to the experience, compensating for the fact that you have breakfast (also excellent) in the same restaurant.Just a little room for improvement for a place that’s clearly setting the standard for the whole region: the whole staff is very kind and diligent, but don’t expect 5 star concierge services if you want to reach beyond the obvious touristic spots. It is of course a question of offer from the city, but also of experience from the staff (there’s no concierge per se). We were looking for a simple restaurant for lunch, and made the mistake to leave it up to a taxi driver, using the doorman as an interpreter: we ended in a cheap place where we were charged several times the normal price. The next day we found a cuter and sounder spot by ourselves.Overall, we strongly recommend La Residence, and will probably come back in a less rainy season (mind you: Hue and Tu Duc are absolutely charming under the rain, but we want to see the city also under different lights).

"A very nice hotel in Hue"
20th October 2011, HCMC
A very nice experience. We got an upgrade which was all the more appreciated since my wife was pregnant at the time. The hotel is well located not too far from the Citadel, and next to a boat stop for excursions down the Perfume river (so no need to go further down). Service was great. We got greeting from the manager. The sous chef was proposing special dishes and so on. Resident Suite is definitely a must; very nice view on the river, nice balcony, very nice furniture. We would recommend that suite for those who love well design rooms with character.
