"Not a bad choice but has its quirks"
20th May 2012, Sal51Tok, Tok
Clean small rooms. but really noisy at night. Could hear the lift every time it moved, very annoying. lift is old and the buttons stick so if you pushed your room you didn't always get there, sometimes the button stuck and you went for a ride instead.
"Not for disabled"

Staff all very good. Entry up a set of steep stairs, not suitable for those in wheelchairs or of reduced mobility. Bathroom not well designed, large new basin reduced access to toilet and toilet tissue holder was behind toilet.Breakfast excellent

Very small room with limited moving space, no cupboard space at all. Buffet breakfast was very good, however, lunch and dinner menu had very limited selection. A wider variety of cusine on the menu would be welcome. Staff were friendly and helpful, good bar and lounge area. Parking was very limited.

Management responseDear Snootus Thank you for taking the time to complete this review, your feedback is important to us. Although some of the rooms are slightly smaller we have endeavoured to utilise the space as efficiently as possible hence the fact that the cupboard has been replaced by the drawers and "open" hanging concept.Your complements regardin the breakfast and staff attention are most appreciated, although the lunch menu is reduced we do have a complete dinner menu as well as a range of daily specials.RegardsIan Shipman

Management responseDear Accorhotels.com traveler Auckland Thank you for taking the time to complete the review on TripAdvisor regarding you recent stay with us at the Mercure Wellington Willis Street. I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. The lift breakdown you mention in your review was due to a blown fuse and was repaired by the technicians very shortly afterwards, the lift itself is tested on a regular basis as part of our scheduled maintanance programme and the annual building WOF inspections.RegardsIan Shipman

"Mercure meets your needs."
24th April 2012, Blackcap_12, Christchurch, New Zealand
My room was spacious, comfortable, airy, clean and well facilitated. Some nice views across the city from the fourth floor.Nice breakfast spread. Staff were helpful and easy to deal with. One downside - $6 minimum charge for internet use is kinda steep - in any case this should be free to paid guests. I didnt investigate the parking as I was on foot but my impressions were that it was limited. I also didnt notice a suitable wheelchair access for the front entrance. All in all this hotel was good, not exceptional but satisfactory nonetheless.

Management responseDear Blackcap_12Thank you for you comments regarding your recent stay with us they are most appreciated. With regards to parking although the parking you would have noticed outside the hotel is limited we do have access to overflow parking facilities over the road which we offer to our guests at no charge.RegardsIan Shipman

"good value"
21st April 2012, Athenree
I have often stayed at this hotel as it fits my needs and is very good value. the greeting is warm. The rooms are very clean and serviced. The location is at the top of town and very close to the motorway north. You can get all the services you want and I feel very comfortable there.

"Glorified Hostel"
19th April 2012, Babbletrax, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
This place is 1 step above a backpackers. Firstly our room wasnt ready when we arrived at 2pm. I went to get help with our bags and no one came. The room door just cleared the side of the queen sized bed in a room not much bigger than. This place is a glorified hostel - if I wanted to step up from a backpackers, i probably still wouldnt recommend it.

"Nothing to write home about!"
15th April 2012, christiaan2001, Auckland
We had 2 rooms booked, upon arriving we found that the first room was good but we had been bumped to another room on another floor for the other room for some reason. So We ended up on two different floors. The rooms were dated and the bed too soft and uncomfortable. Cannot fault the cleanliness though, it was very clean. The rooms on the two different floors were also not of the same quality. The bed in the room on the 6th floor was nice than ours on the 5th floor as was the overall decor. The lift has a sign on it that only 90kg maximum weight is allowed (that's pretty scary considering I weight over that by myself!!). Overall - I won't be coming back.
"Need improvements"

The Hotel was not as to my expectations. The rooms were quiet old and did not have any airconditioning quiet discomforting. Did not have a micorwave in the room and the toilets were very inconvieninetly located in the bath. Very Noisy ...I will not stay at this property again
"Very disappointed"
29th March 2012, Auckland, New Zealand
We arrived in Wellington to rain and wind and were looking forward to relaxing in a pleasant room. The photos viewed on the website were nothing like the reality. Did not stay as were very disappointed with real life viewing. We are part of the advantage plus group and this was a free night which was just as well as we have stayed in other hotels in the group and this was definitely not what we were expecting. More like a back packers Front desk staff however were very helpful
"Welly in a Weekend"
22nd March 2012, Auckland
The Mercure Willis should not be confused with the Mercure The Terrace. The Willis version is upgrading rooms and this was very pleasant, especially the double-glazed windows reducing street noise.Wonderful ethnic food places are nearby and an American restaurant chain offered a competitive buffet breakfast.
"Welly business trip review"

Was not happy with the location or amount of noise from the road below while in the my room. The service was very good and bed comfortable.
"Room changes"
14th March 2012, Tauranga, New Zealand
I used the free night as an Accor member for the first time. It wasn't a good experience. My second night I prepaid on line as usual and in the note box clearly said I was uusing free night for the first night as I did when speaking with Accor. In spite of that to my embarrassment when I returned to the room to find key didn't work and a somewhat sharp response for the incumbant sent me down to reception. They couldn't see why I was concerned as I had been upgraded to a suite.Well the aircon unit outside menat no sleep. Not a happy experience. The dining room staff on the other hand were superb.

Management responseDear Accorhotels.com traveler Taupo, New Zealand Our service is our benchmark and it is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to monitor our service levels and hotel facilities to ensure we are maintaining our high expectations and meeting our guest expectations.I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; although we do only have limited onsite carparking, we have an overnight off site parking facillity, which is offered free of charge to all in house guests. The onsite parking is unfortunatelly allocated on a first come first serve basis, hence the need to move your car to this facility. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near futureKind regardsSincerely,Ian ShipmanGeneral Manager

"Good Value"
9th March 2012
Great service and good facilities including gymnasium, swimming pool and parking. The location is a little out of town, but overall much better value than more centrally located hotels. The parking area is a little tight but is free.

"Wellington hotel"
6th March 2012, Travellingvet, Hertfordshire
Good location clse to centre, free parking is best asset.Noisy at night due to location at a main intersection and no air con to had to keep windows open to cool down the room.Internet had to be paid for which should be free nowadays in a hotel room.Room comfortable enough but with AC would be even better.

"Hot and noisy"
1st March 2012, Gisborne, New Zealand
This hotel is in a great location and as it has free parking it is good value. However, the rooms have no air conditioning so are hot and we couldn't open the windows as the street noise was unbearable. By the morning we felt as if we were in a cage!

Comfortable and clean. Good meals. Your service was fine.I do not wish to comment further. For no other reason than I am really busy at work. I do not want to be obligated into and writing reviews of a service that I have paid for.
"Clean, professional and spacious"
22nd February 2012, Melbourne, Australia
Clean, professional and spacious room with prompt, friendly service. Situated a little out from the city but within walking distance of Cuba Street; well-located for travellers seeing the city by car.
"Mercure Willis Street"
3rd February 2012, Auckland, New Zealand
Convenient to all the attractions in Wellington.En-suite with fridge, iron and board, hair dryer, flat screen with a selection of sky channels.Polite and friendly staff. The room I was in could do with a lick of paint and although clean the carpets were heavily stained. The linen and towels were clean and pressed as you would expect. Although one towel had a permanent stain which marginally detracts from the overall standard.Overall it was a comfortable and pleasant stay.

"Really Disappointed"
2nd February 2012, New Plymouth, New Zealand
9D Wilton StreetWestown4310New Plymouth1 February 2012The ManagerMercure Wellington Willis Street355 Willis StreetWELLINGTON6011Dear sir or madam, Recently my wife and I stayed at your establishment. Over the past couple of months we have stayed at a few Accor hotels and in fact have an Accor card under my partner’s name, Robyn Oakes.Last weekend was my daughters 30th birthday and we decided to splash out and spend two nights in Wellington and choose to stay at the Mercure Wellington on Willis Street (please see documentation provided as proof of our stay). Sadly our room was NOT up to standard, and accordingly we were both thoroughly disappointed with our stay. Here is a list of things we noted, that were NOT up to standard.• The room had a very noisy fridge, that not only leaked but it was soooo full of beer and wine (mini-bar) that the door hardly fitted and therefore it pooled water on the fridge floor and inside of the cupboard.• The fridge (because it was soooo full made a dripping noise (every 20-25 seconds).• The television remote did not work and therefore you had to get out of bed to turn it off or on (why have a remote supplied?).• There were stains on the carpet.• The toilet was incredibly smelly, and very unpleasant. • Little or very little pressure in the shower.• A very unsafe and slippery shower floor.• The bed that needs to be replaced as the zipper in the middle is broken and therefore there was a gap between the two mattresses. This made it feel very unsafe. (There had been a blanket placed over the gap but this did not work). • The door between the bedroom and the bathroom creaked and shrieked so loudly (it could have been used as sound effects in a horror movie) that it woke my wife up (both nights) when I went to the toilet in the middle of the night! As you can see there were a variety of things that were NOT right in this room, in fact I would have to ask whether this room was up to Accor’s very high standards? I look forward to your reply with interest and hope that these complaints can be rectified. John O’Keefe

Management responseDear Accorhotels.com traveler New PlymouthThank you for the constructive feedback you have submitted and the specifics given, at the Mercure Wellington Willis street we take customer satisfaction very seriously and strive to meet guest expectations. The Mercure brand as a standard provides mini bars in all our rooms the contents of these mini bars have been standardised in order to provide a range of drinks to cater for most tastes. As such we have a range of beers, soft drinks and water, this can be requested to be removed if so desired on a room to room basis. With regards to the television the problem it turns out was the batteries were flat, this has been rectified, in furture simply give reception a call and they will gladly resolve the issue. My maintanance manager has oiled the door hinges to prevent the creaking and is investigating the pressure of the water.RegardsIan Shipman

"Mercure Hotel that doesn't support it's brand"
2nd February 2012, Albury
The quality of accomadation at this hotel is poor. The photos on the internet are misleading. The lobby area is fine but the room was terrible. Poor quality fittings, tiny, lots of light enters room. The bathroom had poor quality fittings with water that has to flow onto windowsill. No air conditioning and unable to open very many windows. I would be very concerned about the safety of this hotel in an earthquake.
