"A REAL Sofitel"
11th April 2012, Brisbane
This Hotel is Superb. I will get the negative out of the way first - and in doing so I am being petty. We paid for a room with a panoramic city view because as tourists, this view can allow you to get your bearings in a new city, and for me its like an introduction as it is often the first place you really stop, take a breath and look after dumping your baggage. Well, upon arrival we were upgraded to a prestige suite. With no view. I know how this sounds, but I was a little disappointed since I did pay extra for a view as it is something important to me. I did however get over it. The Prestige Suite was wonderful (aside from the view of an overgrown shrub!). After a week in hotel rooms, it was nice to be able to spread out. It was spacious, clean and packed with little extras to make you feel at home. A choice of silk or towel robes, bath salts, umbrellas, bathroom scales (which is probably not a good idea when you are travelling around China consuming so many dumplings!) and of course the all important Sofitel Bed and Pillows. As a result, of course I did not complain about the upgrade. It was much appreciated. The location is fantastic; right in the centre of the old town. Xi'an is flat, so its an easy walk to the East Gate, Muslim District and the Drum and Bell Tower. I would highly recommend as a tourist staying within, and also exploring the city walls (you can hire a bike on the walls near the East Gate - the view gives you a unique perspective of the city not to be missed).Le Chinois claims to have the best Cantonese Cuisine in Xi'an; while I didn't have any other Cantonese food during my stay I am willing to take their word for it. BBQ pork, sizzling beef, egg soup and the tastiest egg tarts. I won't be forgetting that meal any time soon. Then there is Casablanca - couldn't fault it, if you like Moroccan they do a great job, and Cafe Ren - try the canapé platter. The Buffet Breakfast, was a buffet breakfast. Aside from one confusing episode where a lady from housekeeping - who did not speak a word of English and I do not speak Chinese - burst into our room looking around like she had lost something really important, the service was as expected. Our late checkout was accommodated, taxis and shows organised and the concierge enthusiastic - using any friendly excuse to practise their English. All the staff, right across the hotel were keen, eager and waiting to serve. This hotel was an absolute pleasure. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Xi'an.

"A Vegetarian disaster over five days."
8th October 2011, Shanghai, China
If you are a vegetarian that eats beef or chicken stock, fish, shell fish, shrimp, fish sauce, eggs and dairy then this is the place for you but if you have severe allergies to fish, shrimp, shellfish and eggs maybe this is not the place to eat.The service staff are average in dealing with complaints but the cooks (not chefs) are ego based ,very, very arrogant and show little regard for hygiene in food preparation. We had been told that the food we ordered was completely vegetarian and had none of the foods mentioned (allergic) but it did. My nephew is very allergic and has to carry a Epi pen with him at all times so I would not suggest this place to eat but to stay it's ok.The staffs reaction to the non vegetarian additives was that is only a very little in it well I suppose on that thought that a little dead is different to big dead.It is a very old hotel that needs lots and lots of attention. We generally love the Accor Sofitel hotels because we can generally get the food we need but this holiday has changed our whole outlook on things. We spend forty days per year in hotels around the world for business and pleasure so we like to stay in places we feel safe in and that they respect our beliefs. This was not the case in this visit.
"Never dissapointed"

2 nights. Laundry provides good quality. The breakfast in the japanese restaurant is not optimum. Not enough seats during the rush hours 8.00 a.m.Location is very nice.Food very good in the cantonese restaurant.
"Xi'an Experience"
14th June 2011, Singapore
The hotel is centrally located and makes it easy to travel to places of interest either by the in house transport or even public transportation. The room is comfortable with clean toilets and shower units. It is a family friendly place to stay for leisure and suitable for families with young children. The front desk staff and the bell attendance are friendly and serve with a smile.
"Short but satisfying stay"
9th June 2011, Canberra
We only stayed one night (should have stayed in Xian an extra day!) and the Sofitel was a lovely hotel. Had a few difficulties checking in and we ended having to have a drink in the bar while we waited for our rooms to be available. The only really negative thing was that one of the non-smoking rooms noticeably smelt of smoke. By that time however we were too tired to worry too much so cannot comment on whether the management would have been willing or able to sort this out. Other than the tobacco smell, the rooms were lovely and the beds were heavenly - especially since we had spent the previous night on a train from Beijing.
"Great Stay In Xi'an"
17th May 2011, BraveHusky
The service was very good and responsive. The concierge in particular was very helpful. The rooms were decorated very nicely and were very comfroatble. The housekeeping and laundry service also were very good. The Sofitel complex is a couple blocks from the downtown sights but helped to keep things quiet at and around the hotel.
"Not ready for prime time"
14th May 2011, suchot1, McLean, Virginia
Extremely weak concierge department. Every concierge, in every country, should be multilingual. Health club is not properly air-conditioned. Even the water dispenser in the health club does not dispense cold water. Inflexibility in club lounge - staff would not give us canapes one or two minutes after closing time.

"Just a comfortable room"
28th February 2011, Guangzhou
Overall a comfortable room but the other services were very underwhelming. The rooms are very nice, spacious and comfortable but... This hotel had numerous upgrade options which were complicated and expensive, the standard upgrade as a accor club member did not include breakfast. Once at our room we had 3 different staff knock on the door, to fix a lamp and bring robes to the room. The travel desk was not very helpful, make sure you do your research before you arrive. We ate at the buffet one night for dinner, it was very expensive and the quality was poor, the seafood all looked discoloured as though it had been sitting out all day and the dishes were not topped up after they were empty, including the icecream. We went to the 'show' at the bar after dinner, it was not a show but a very poor singing group.
"Excellent hotel"
21st February 2011, Beijing
This hotel is located in a position for furthur travel and walking distance from the train station. We were impressed by the room quality, the bathrooms are amazing and the service is excellent. We had no problems during our stay and if we did the staff would have helped us unconditionally. Highly recommend to anyone - the price of the hotel is extraordinary considering the quality of the hotel and the inclusion of breakfast.
"Short weekend in Xian"
5th January 2011, Beijing
The Sofitel in Xian is located in the old people's square with a number of other Accor hotels there. The location is pretty much central within the Xian walls and a short taxi ride from the drum and bell towers. The stay in the hotel was very enjoyable with very convenient facilities and a superb sleep. The buffet is worth a try as there is a large choice of very tasty food. A faster check-out procedure would be a bonus in the future though this was just a minor problem
"Our stay at Sofitel Xi'an"
15th November 2010, Chessenaz
We were happy with the room and the service. We used two of the restaurants (one for breakfast only, the other one was the Chinese restaurant), and liked both. The staff were friendly and helpful.
