Found this hotel to be excellent. Very well situated in the centre of the city:easy to walk to all tourist type destinations. Very clean and staff most helpful. Breakfast was typical of this type of hotel, and offered everything that you wanted without there being a massive selection, but was really ok. Our room was very quiet at night for sleeping.
I found pubic hair in the bath room and very dirty on the floor. I requested change room but front manager refused it. because fully booked. but usually hotel has some rooms available in this case. I have never seen other accor groups hotel around the world. I shall never stay this hotel future.

I stayed at the Mercure Palermo with my partner for three nights in March and we had a great time. Pros: Great location. Only a 10mins bus ride (€1.90 pp) from Palermo Centrale station or €15 taxi ride to the hotel. Also walking distance to the port and the shopping area, bars and restaurants. I stayed in a family room which had two double beds and a seating area; the room was huge. The bathroom was great and clean with lots of hot water, great shower too. The staff are friendly and helpful. They gave tips on places to eat and where to go for a drink. Breakfast was good, hot and cold food, cereal, pastries, the same selection everyday however apart from the cakes and pastries which did change. Cons: The tv channels didn't always work and there are only two English channels- but you're on holiday to enjoy yourself not watch TV so may not be a problem for some people. Also the strength of the wifi; worked well in the communal areas but in the rooms, only in certain parts of the room. Overall a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Not only do I reccomend Mercure Palermo but I would definitely stay here again!
I was really impressed by the friendliness and dedication of the staff (reception, breakfast, bar and housekeeping staff) which made this trip very pleasant. The hotel is extremely well located for shopping and restaurants. Unfortunately this hotel is very noisy during the night with a poor sound insulation and inefficient double glazing. If you want to sleep or rest it is not possible. The coffee served for breakfast is absolutely appalling but you can ask a coffee made from the bar area which is better. Nevertheless I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind the noise as it is exceptionally good value for money. We had a very big room with a very big bathroom very modern and functional with free Internet.
Overall, it is an okay hotel, but service and facilities are nothing special. On top, the staff could be friendlier at times. Breakfast was okay but the overall ambience of the breakfast room is pretty cold. Nice are the lobby with Macs and comfortable chairs - the kids loved spending some time there...
(Le Club Accorhotels Gold) - first time of my life where staff does not precise anything about breakfast at check-in so on the 3rd (and last day of my stay), I realized that breakfasts were actually included in our rates. In any hotel in the world, when breakfast is included (or even when it isn't), staff proactively informs you about it (at least to give you details about location, times,..) here it seems they don't seem to care. And when on the 3rd day I expressed my surprise they just said "breakfast is always included so it's obvious": well obvious for the staff maybe but they should adopt a customer-oriented attitude. - no iron available! I'm not speaking of the laundry service, just a basic iron that they have at reception and lend you in many hotels including 2-stars ones - no other italian beer than Nastro Azzurro at the hotel bar and 5€ for any bottled beer, relatively expensive compared with bars outside. all that said, this hotel has a good location, is clean, and has spacious rooms (at least on the 8th floor)
The problem with Accor Hotels is mainly the "consistency". I normally expect the same quality among the same hotel brand within the group, in this case Mercure, but always have surprises! The French just don't get it! When I look at IHG or Marriott hotels around Europe or even the world, the rooms are 90% similar if not perfectly the same so as the beds. At Accor Hotels, it all depends on the "location" i.e. the hotel that you go! At Mercure Palermo, the beds were awful. I had booked a room with a queen or king bed for myself and my wife but got twin beds and had to somehow attach them. Half of the times, my wife was waking me up in the middle of the night as I was falling on the floor in the middle! The room was clean but really basic, almost worse than travelodge in the U.K.! We had to iron couple of our shirts & trousers before going out but we were told iron is aganist the "security" law and hotel rules and so we had to take them to the next door laundry and pay €18 for just steaming our clothes for couple of minutes. I was scratching my head that hundreds of thousands of hotels world-wide are in-secure while the Mercure in Palermo is definitely a secure one! This is for sure a managemnet problem. The staff were very nice & friendly. They always gave us good advice. Not having a restaurant is certainly a handicap of this hotel.
Everything was fine, the location was good (5 mins walk to main commercial street), breakfast was good, bed is comfortable, staffs are polite and helpful, lobby is modern, room is big (but no paper slippers and kettle)...... However, I have to say I have seen the most stupid toilet design in this hotel! The shower space is as small as a shoes box but the entire toilet is quite big. It is all because of the two closestools are too close to the glass door of the shower space, then you can hardly move your hands or open the door. Actually, It is not necessary for them to put the closestools so close to the shower "box" door, they have enough space to move them further, just 30cm more is enough!!!! Another down side is Internet, who charges for cable in nowadays in Europ? It's not in the states or 2002!
Absolutely no privileges for the silver level. Breakfast is below any standards. Internet in the rooms is not possible. Family room does not correspond with reality - no coffee-tea making facilites. Free only first bottle of mineral water, next bottles for money. Nice location. Valet psrking for 14 Euro. Rooms are large and clean, by poor furnished.
Very helpful staff, great location to visit the sights. Hotel currently being refurbished but still good. Internet only available in the lobby and no tea & coffee facilities in the rooms (unusual for Accor group hotels). Parking garage next to hotel but we were able to park on the street opposite the hotel using parking vouchers from a Tabac for a lot less.
