"1st birthday for my Olivia"
20th May 2012, brisbane
We were greeted to a vip welcome but once in the room there was a bad mould smell with mould on the curtains walls and bed head and the room looked liked it hadnt been used in over a month so we got a transfer to another room which was better but no microwave so our baby was left to eat cold food or luke warm at best.We paid for breakfast upon booking but when there everyday they said we didnt pay and we showed them the reciept and they still didnt fix it and then they tripple charge my room for internet i didnt use and to top it off on mothers day they didnt let me use my advantage card for dinner as they said its mothers day and only the mothers get 25% off meals which i have never heard of before but ignoring all that the pool was good the sports was good and the salt bar had good food.

Management responseDear Valued guest,Thank you for taking the time to complete your review from your stay with us. I am sorry that your room had mould in it, we do from time get this happening in the bathrooms due to moisture in the tropics but I haven’t ever seen it on the curtains or head board so I am glad we changed rooms for you. Also I'm afraid we do not have microwaves available in all rooms but only our Opera and Imperial suites as standard as they have kitchenette areas. Of course we can provide these to guests for a minimal hire charge upon request. In regards to the discount on Mothers Day, the discount as per the guidelines is not offered on special days such as Christmas , NY Eve and mothers day, this is standard in all Accor hotels who choose which are these special days. We did however offer 25% discount as a reward for each mother dining on that day.I hope this helps to explain, I am glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay with our pool and resort area.Kind regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager

"Lovely Holiday"
15th May 2012
We loved this location and we were at a family wedding which was the perfect place. The pool is really large and never felt crowded. Location to the Port was great and the Bhula bus was a fun way to get around the island. The only complaints (which were minor) were that we had to move rooms as the TV didn't work and the door lock broke. The room we moved to had very poor lighting and it was impossible to see properly in the bathroom mirror to get ready. We were a bit disappointed that we didn't even get an apology for the inconvenience of moving and no compensation for this as it was a bit of a hassle to us as we had settled in. Otherwise loved the place. Great holiday. Most staff generally were very friendly and helpful.

"Family Holiday"
14th May 2012, family444100, Sydney, Australia
Description of hotel was not as in the website. However the staff were friendly and the pool was great for the kids. We stayed in a suite probably a little over priced for what it was! Didnt recieve discountes with the accor card for beverages.

Management responseDear family 444100,Thank you for taking the time to post your review of your family holiday. I was pleased to read that you had a great holiday with us. In regards to discounts, the Accor Advantage Plus card is a discount card for food only. For two diners you recieve 50% off your total food bill, beverage doesnt recieve a discount. Also a discount on food is only in our main restaurants, Laggon Buffet, Salt and V, no discount is offered in Room Service, kids meals, and snack menus such as the pool side snack menu etc.I hope this helps to explain why you didnt revieve this discount, the only way you can gain discount on beverage when staying on holiday with us is to be an Accor employee and travel with your employee Bienveneu card gained after 12 months of service.Kind regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager

"Water"
11th May 2012, yogen-reddy, suva
Dirty water was coming from the tap for about 3 hours on 5th of may in the afternoon, should have back up tank to supply clean water.
View management response »
Management responseDear yogen-reddyThank you for your review of your last stay with us. Just to let you know we do have a large tank within the resort where we hold water for all guests. The water is cleaned and treated as it enters and again when it leaves our tanks via a U.V system. You are correct that the water in May had a slight brown color to it, this was due to the water supply after the major floods in April. The water was clean and safe to consum however at times for a few days didnt look completly clear. This has now been corrected and as a precaution we have also drained and re-cleaned all holding tanks.Kind regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager

"Bathroom!"
4th May 2012, FijiDenarau, Lautoka, Fiji
I am a Privilege Card holder and enjoy the associated befnefits. My stay at Sofitel was my first here in Fiji. I live here and often stay at Novotel in Suva. The only disappointment I had was the bathroom. My next comments are to assist your Exec. HK and team with regards to the cleanliness aspect. I stayed in Room 260 and the grout in the tiles had lots of mould/mildew and with a quick spray of Exit Mould this could have been rectified if the staff had noticed and I would expect a property of your reputation to be immaculate with regard to the room. As we all know we do not get a second chance to make a first impression and mine was not good. I want to be constructive with my remarks here in order to assist your rooms team to be more observant and after closing the door know that the room is in tyhe best shape it can. I am involved with supply to the industry and training in this area and others is what we do best. This will not deter me from a return visit and please contact me direct (timoci@hotmail.com) if we can help you in any way.
"Sofitel Denarau Island - well worth it!!!"
30th April 2012, Happyheen, Canberra, Australia
Staying at the Sofitel on Denarau was a brilliant decision. The hotel is very child friendly. We took our 7 month old, and there were lots of other children staying there. We ate at Lagoon Restaurant each evening. Full buffet, delicious food of a different theme each evening. The pool was amazing, so big and winding around so there are lots of sections to spread out and enjoy. The Port Denarau shops are an easy stroll away. The best thing of the entire trip was the super friendly staff at the Sofitel - they really made our holiday the very best it could be!!! :)

"Fiji vacation"
29th April 2012, Sofiesafi, Hamilton, New Zealand
Sofitel is in a great location. Lagoon style pool a highlight as is the comfort and quantity of the outdoor loungers and umbrellas. Salt restaurant very good and good choices for lunch and dinner. Theme dinner different every night in lagoon restaurant and reasonably good value. There are four other resorts within walking distance so a lot of choices for meals. Excellent resort for families or couples.

"Easter week"
19th April 2012, caxica, Sydney, Australia
I arrived before tropical cyclone Daphne and because of that we had to wait several hours until our room was ready, which is understandable. When I asked for a late checkout on departure they wanted me to pay for it, I saw it more like a compensation for making me wait to get the room: I would just be getting back the hours I was made to wait on arrival. In the end we did get the late checkout at no charge but we had to argue and get the people at reception to call the manager. Not really the treatment I was expecting considering we stayed 10 nights. I would probably give them another chance.Apart from that they handled the whole tropical cyclone really well, we had water, electricity and food, the same could not be said of the other hotels at Denarau, which had problems. The food was very good and there was a wide choice. The travel agency at the hotel was very convenient, we went on several outings (day cruises, rafting, etc) and organised them all through them.

We stayed there during their worst storm ever and we never felt as safe as we did with the wonderful staff to look after us. With our 2 grand children they did everything to watch over us and had plenty for the small ones to do. We know that we stayed in the safest place in Fiji for this unexpected storm Thank you all for looking after us Vunaka

"During the floods management seemed to be profiting from others misfortune..."
11th April 2012
We were meant to be at the Sofitel for 2 nights but were forced to stay 4 nights due to the cyclone and flooding. Firstly I'd like to say that the staff are brilliant - friendly, helpful and really put a positive spin on being stuck at the hotel. However, my only problem is with the management. I can understand that food choices had to be restricted due to supply issues but still charging what they do for such a reduced service seemed like they were abusing the monopoly they had. There were no activities put on by the hotel, our room was serviced for the first time on the 3rd day, there was no happy hour because that particular bar was closed and only one restaurant was open. I would have thought that during this time they would have been focused on keeping people happy...? Perhaps free wifi or movies would have been appropriate. Don't get me wrong the hotel itself and the staff were great, I just think the management were profiting unnecessarily from others misfortune.

Management responseDear Guest,Thank you for your feedback and kind comments about our staff members during this tough period.I would also like to answer your comments about management and trying to make extra revenues.Firstly as we reduced to total offering on our dinner buffets we REDUCED the price from F$78.00 to only F$40.00 per person, however you must have missed this price reduction. In relation to extra activities within the resort we implemented immediately :• Children movies on the big screen during the day in our Ballroom with hot popcorn – complimentary• Latest release movies for adults also on the big screen in our Ballroom with hot popcorn – complimentary• Kids evening disco with soft drinks – complimentary• Fijian hat and basket weaving in the lobby – complimentary• Chill out lounge with music – complimentary• Set up Fijian arts and crafts for sale displayed in the lobby pre-function space• Complimentary 30 min daily use wifi in the hotel lobby area. However sadly you must have missed ALL of these activities for our guests organized by our “management team” I hope you have reviewed the correct hotel. This same “management team” personally issued clean towels, bottled water, coffee / tea refills , fresh milk being delivered daily to all guest rooms as due to the fact we had no staff able to get to the resort due to the floods we couldn’t offer full service cleaning of all the guest rooms, as you mentioned a full service happened again to all guest rooms on the third day, we hoped and also found most guest were appreciative of this and understood the situation. If you want to see this feedback please simply read the reviews listed below yours from other guest who stayed with us during this same period. You will also note that we have been busy delivering over 1500 hot fresh meals to the local community as well as personally cleaning houses, handing out clothing etc as our relationship with the Fijian people doesn’t stop at our hotel gates. We never did or ever would try to make any extra profit from such a terrible disaster and I am truly disappointed that you think and have suggested this fact. We did still offer happy hour as normal in our Lat 17 Bar which was open daily but we didn’t offer happy hour all day, I will remember this for next time.regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager" in control of the Managment Team you refure to "

"Sofitel, Denarau, Fiji - 2 night stay"
4th April 2012, BabyBah, Racquel Shannon
Beautiful looking resort, pool was huge and looked stunning. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Great location and easy to get a taxi ($5 FJ one way) or bulla bus ($7FJ return) to Denarau marina and only 5min drive. The room we stayed in was gorgeous. My only fault with this resort was I requested a cot for our 12mth old and it wasn't in the room, it had no tea, sugar, milk, cups or teaspoons in room, which I had to call and request. Don't know if the last guest took them home with them as they should of been in the room. Staff where excellent. Overall great stay.

"Fabulous Fiji"
3rd April 2012
Fabulous place for a family holiday. The pool is great for small children and adults. The slide was a hit with all the kids even though it was shut for two days for scheduled maintenance that we were not advised of at the time of booking our accommodation. Overall, the staff at the hotel and Fijian people as a whole were always so lovely and would go out of their way to assist and be helpful. Can't wait to go back next year.

Management responseDear Valued Guest,Thank you for your comments of your holiday with us here in Fiji. I am glad to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and plan on coming back again soon. I am sorry the kids slide was closed for the two days while you were here, this was due to some damage to the fibre glass that created a slight crack, therfore to be safe for the kids we had no choice but to close the slide, fix and repaire the section of fibre glass and then add three new coats of paint to finish it off. I was told however by some small children that with the new paint it was "way more fast and fully sick" which I asume is a good thing.I look forward to welcoming you back soon.Kind regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager

We found the Sofitel a great place to stay. The resort staff were excellent and very friendly. You have easy access to Nadi and other local sites. You can also stay at the resort and enjoy the pool and other activities put on. You should try the Luxury cruise on the Bel mare if you get a chance. This was amazing.

"Travelled with 4 kids 2 teens and 2 younger."
1st April 2012, Sydney
Wall had some stains on it next to the bed which was a little off putting. Apart from that the stay was comfortable enough. I do not think I would choose to stay there for any length of time as it is a Hotel Vs an Island resort where you have more room than a Hotel Room. The breakfast was very off putting with birds everywhere eating the cakes, crapping on chairs and the cakes and bakery items were not removed post this meaning someone may eat them. Quite off putting. I think some form of blinds to stop the birds getting in would be a good idea.

Management responseDear Valued Guest,Thank you for your comments about your stay with us and I am glad you had a great stay with us, in regards to the birds, this is an ongoing problem through out Fiji, we are currently looking at large glass and wood bifold doors that will encase this restaurant and so can be used during breakfast to keep out the birds.Kind regards,Adam LakerGeneral Manager

"GREAT RESORT"
29th March 2012, Melbourne, Australia
I found this resort to be one of the best in Denarau, the staff are nice and friendly, our room was very clean, modern and a comfortable king bed,I personally do not like the shower in the bath, so would seek to find a separate shower next time. The pool is big, great water slide for the kids, the grounds are also very nicely kept. My only complaint would be the check in and check out, I am an Advantage Plus member and had pre paid but was I was still charged for my room on both occasions that was very frustrating trying to explain, just as well I had a copy of my booking with me.To have this happen twice was not good enough and embarrassing to discuss with other people beside you.I would stay at this resort again.

"Staying at Sofitel Fiji"
22nd March 2012, Moscow, Russia
Everything was perfect - helpful and friendly staff, clean beach, nice room. The only drawbacks to be mentioned:- I was charged two times for a minibar, which I never used- I was surprised when in the final receipt there was a line "tips"; thought it should be applicable for particular services addressed to a particular person (waitor, porter, etc) , but for overall stay- Internet was unreasonably expensive and did not work in my room (had to sit in a lobby with my notebook). But in general the whole impression about the hotel is very good.

"My stay at Sofitel Fiji"
19th March 2012, Sydney
The Good:- Very friendly staff - Excellent location- Awesome pool and spa - pool had shady areas around the pool even when the sun was high. Definitely better than the swimming pools of neighboring hotels. - Hammocks on the beach were placed in shady part of the beach - spent many hours on it.The Not So Good:- Found cockroaches in the room by the second night (possibly due to wet weather)- Presence of colony of ants on the balcony- Am a local residing abroad and experienced a different level of service (below par) when compared to other visitors.- Darker sand on the beach compared with other hotel's beaches in the vicinity .
