Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Haynes Adventure"

12th May 2012, ColleenOnHoliday, Brisbane, Australia

The hotel surpassed all our expectations. Great value when booking 3 nights and paying for two. The bathroom was to die for and the room was stunning. Only complaint was the two bars across the road from our room on the south side of the hotel which disturbed our sleep with the late night party goers. Otherwise the location was just brilliant with easy access to everything and the in-room espresso coffee making machine with free milk was a definite hit for the hubby.

Management responseDear ColleenOnHoliday, thank you for your comment. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the room facilities to its fullest. Due to our very central location with a variety of restaurants and bars close by, some noise from these venues can be expected.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent experience"

29th April 2012, Alicia326, Wellington, New Zealand

What a fabulous stay! From the very moment we stepped into the hotel the staff were very attentive and said hello in French.Throughout our stay, the service was first class, the room was large and comfortable with excellent bedding and facilities. The bathroom was well appointed - I even enjoyed watching a movie while taking a bath. Food was outstanding. All in all a wonderful hotel so close to town and well worth paying a little extra for a special occasion.

We absolutely loved our stay in Queenstown and the Sofitel. The location is really handy to walk to all restaurants and shops. The service was fantastic, very friendly and very efficient. We rang from our room for some ice and it arrived within minutes! Our room was a very comfortable size, clean and special cards located in appropriate places explaining what to expect. Very professional and made us feel right at home.

The room was elegant and wonderfully furnished. The spa bath a welcome relax after exploring Queenstown. And the breakfasts were truly amazing. Must find an excuse to return.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Sofitel Queenstown"

12th March 2012, Auckland, New Zealand

Got off to a bad start as our friends were upset at lack of view (our fault not yours as we should have checked) and their feeling that at check-in you were reluctant to shaow us a room. On entry our bath mat was dirty. Our friends room ahd a broken mirror and chipped tiles so they were very disappointed. Also they could not bath the 1st night as the plug would not work. We would have preferred to have gone to another Accor property in Queenstown but were advised we would have to pay for the 1st night anyeway. We have stayed at Accor hotels since becoming a foundation member of Advantage plus NZ, and this was our least enjoyable stay.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Dinig Experience"

5th March 2012, Christchurch, New Zealand

An excellent hotel, however the dining room lacked atmosphere which was not helped by not being able to identify and relate to a waiter. There was only one other couple dining at the time yet we were served by 3-5 different people.I was told by an Accor representative on booking that the hotel offered a complementary bottle of pinot noir to diners. The receptionist also stated this when we checked in.When I enquired of the waiter,he was unaware of this and after making an enquiry confirmed that there was no such offer.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 4.0 out of 5 stars "beautiful hotel"

2nd March 2012, Hong Kong, China

very conveniently located and comfortable, just next to the Station (the shop for bungy, shotover jet). The only bad thing is only 30 min free wi-fi and the speed is so slow that I finally gave up and went to the internet cafe instead. Can't imagine Sofitel brand does not provide free wi-fi to customers.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Could be great but falls short"

2nd March 2012, Woodside, California, USA

Stayed here for two nights in February 2012On the plus side:Great location; walking distance to all points in the center of town.Room itself was nice and clean, with plenty of space.Daniel, one of the concierges, is VERY good. Gave us several good recommendations; was also helpful on both arrival and departure. For the foregoing reasons I'd like to be able to recommend this hotel. However:On both mornings during out stay there was a very loud noise at around 8am for 5 minutes. First time we reported this, hotel personnel said they had no idea what it was. When the noise recurred on the second day, I called the front desk while the noise was being generated, and was told it could be heard clearly through the phone and would be investigated. Shortly thereafter, we were told it's a roll up service door opening at start of the day. To us it sounded like a pipe being sawed or a floor being sanded nearly directly overhead. Though it does stop after about 5 minutes. We saw rooms on the higher floors (floors 4 and 5) are listed for sale by real estate brokers in town; as the hotel appears to be converting at least some rooms in the upper floors to condos, construction noise is another possibility.1.5% surprise hotel surcharge for credit card use at checkout. Told I could avoid this by going out and withdrawing the several hundred dollars required to settle the bill from an ATM and paying cash. This hotel is not inexpensive; it should do better at this price level. Note: A third floor room is street level as the hotel is on a hillside. If you decide to stay here, recommend you try for a room on floors 4 or 5, though as it seems they are converting at least some units on those floors to condos, availability may be limited.

Excellent service - reception staff and concierge most helpful. Did not use the dining room on this occasion but the menu looked good. An excellent centrally located hotel, but be aware that rooms facing the bar across the street can be a little noisy for light sleepers.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Little annoying things"

14th February 2012, Chris7161, Dubai

Nothing wrong with the hotel or the service (apart from insisting on greating all guests with bonjour rather than hello when at least 90% of the staff and clients are clearly not French and as far as I know NZ is an English speaking Country). What really dissapointed me about the stay was after paying a premium for the room they constantly penny pinch on anything they can dream up from charging $18 dollars per day to valet the car, $50 dollars every half hour for checking between 11am and 1pm, no complementary bottled water or internet in the rooms and the cherry on the cake they charged an extra few percent if you pay by credit card (who doesnt pay by card?). Dear Sofitel, add a few extra $ to the booking cost if need be like most 5 star hotels but stop embarrasing yourselves for a few extra pennies.

Hotel was great but when checking out was over charged by about 300 dollars. When corrected was still overcharged and had to be recorrected which was not professional for a 5 star hotel.Servces at hotel were great .

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Fabulous Treat"

18th January 2012, Christchurch, New Zealand

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Sofitel in Queenstown. It was a fabulous treat in our journey around the South Island. The only amenities we missed was the Club which we frequent when staying at the Sofitel in Melbourne.

Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Enjoyable stay"

20th October 2011, Auckland, New Zealand

We were unable to get the coffee maker in the room to function but this did not affect our enjoyment of our stay. The staff were particularly friendly, helpful and charming and made our stay exceptionally pleasent.
