Hotel Mercure Mons: 4.0 out of 5 stars "PLEASANT SURROUNDINGS AND GOOD RESTAURANT"

21st April 2012, WEBLEY455, Manchester, United Kingdom

TOM TOM shows the number of the hotel as 14 not 12..The restaurant facilities have improved considerably since I was last there...The receptionist was very helpful. Big improvement overall since I was last there..

Hotel Mercure Mons: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Nice but could be better..."

2nd September 2011, Philby_UK, Bristol UK

I like Mercure hotels - they're usually good value , clean, well-staffed and usually near city centres. Mons Nimy is almost there but not quite. It's location is best suited to the nearby S.H.A.P.E HQ for the frequent business visitors they must get. It's certainly not a leisure traveller hotel as it's 3 kms from the centre of Mons. There are better tourist hotels nearer Mons centre. Our rooms (2 x twins, 102 & 103) were clean and large and well looked after. Ask for an end of corridor room as they are larger than the inner ones.Location is OK as it's surrounded by trees in a well kept forest. Which means it's quiet, except for the guests - who were a bit noisy in the bar until late when we stayed there. If you're happy with business traveller hotels then it's OK but could be better and you can get better hotels in Mons for the same price which are much closer to the city centre.Whilst US travellers will like the US-friendly cuisine - waffles etc- (there were a lot of US servicemen staying when we were there and they clearly liked the food) - it's very expensive for breakfast (EUR 16) and the a la carte menu in the evening is expensive for what you get. The restaurant is obviously priced for expensed business .travellers, not tourists. On the good side they have a range of room service meals (interestingly called "Hoties".....) which are reasonaby priced but still a bit expensive - EUR 6 for a soup and roll for example.Nice but could be better and food a lot better.
