Novotel Bucharest City Centre - hotel reviews in Bucharest

Hotel code: 5558 customer reviews in partnership with TripAdvisor

Novotel Bucharest City Centre: 4.0 out of 5 stars "First Novotel I rate with 4 of 5 points...."

4th September 2013, Danko M, Nasice

If you read trough all other reviews here, you will find many correct accounts of what this hotel downsides are. Toilet without sink.. Staff that looks down on you.. and many other accounts. To clarify, I am faithful customer to Accor group, I find it to be exactly what they advertise and level of service is what you can expect... but I was really thinking hard about this one particular and decision to give it less than 5 points was not easy to make.. so.. let me break this apart..Good:1. Novotel level of comfort2. Location ( excellent)3. Spa (excellent)Bad:1. Overall feeling... you feel like someone watches you.. and then you realise it is true.. they have goons that follow you to make sure you will not steal something or God knows what.. I can understand that, and in particular cases this would be positive thing, but here it looks like they are here to intimidate you into good behaviour.. This must be cultural thing left from the past, but still felt uneasy.Note to management: hire professionals. Professionals are there but invisible. You run hotel, not wild night club where you need bouncers.2. Staff. - I must clarify this one.I dress casually and in a way to blend with locals, and I don't have need to flash my status or income level. But here, if you want to be greeted with smile you have to show them you have money, you have to dress up in expensive clothes and wear gold. My wife and I did a small experiment.. we dressed casually, and next time we dressed expensive. Huge difference how they treat you. For Accor group this is unacceptable. Twice they tried to convince me they are right and I am wrong in cases where what they said was just impossible and not true. There are many smurky remarks I have heard from staff, behind my back and worse yet, into my face. I don't have space to list them..3. Cheap on coffe/tea in room. Ok, I understand times can be tough.. and you need to save every penny. And this is just tea and coffe that I can have in lobby or order room service. BUT they present themselves as 5 star hotel with perfect service. Note to management: To have 5 star service you have to work 5 star service, not tell me that you think you have 5 star service when I come to reception to ask for something. When I ask you something, your reply should not be "We are 5 star hotel" ( meaning, what do you want... you should be happy we let you in here)Next time in Bucharest I will stay in Pullman and see if there is difference...

Novotel Bucharest City Centre: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Very good location, very good breakfast, very new. It ends there."

16th August 2013, LibrettoM, London, United Kingdom

Pluses: Great location. Looks brand new. Breakfast was amazingly good (probably the best quality ingredients and choices I've ever experienced). Minuses: rooms have an awkward layout. The toilet is separate from the bathtub/sink/shower and has no sink, so you have to walk around the room with unwashed hands. Pillows are disgustingly hard and lumpy. They feel very old.Parking: parking is VERY expensive for Bucharest standards. It’s 65RON per 24 hours (so something like 20 EUR). There were other parkings around the hotel which seemed cheaper.Service: we booked two rooms for 5 nights (for an obvious total of 10 nights) on Accor’s website (i.e. full price). Plans changed and we needed one room for another two nights. The staff at the counter refused to match the price and wanted us to pay something like 30EUR per night more than we had already paid. Sorry, but after 10 nights I should get a free night not pay more. When I said something about online it was cheaper he put on his “I’m disgusted by deals” smile and said “well if you can find online cheaper, up to you”. It really spoiled my whole experience. So we left as planned and booked another hotel,Would I go back ? Maybe. But since there are at least two Radisson hotels around the corner, I would give them a chance first.
