Sofitel Karnak Luxor: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Sofitel Karnak is the best hotel h have ever seen"

10th February 2013, Bassem_Habiba, Alexandria, Egypt

Firstly, i want to thank all Sofitel team for their royal services. Starting from the reservation and his answers about my inquiries, reception team, swimming pool team, resturant team and room services' team... really the best vacation i spent till now.Everything was too fantastic, regardless that the location of the hotel is far from the city centre a bit.Really, I would like to extend my stay in Sofitel at least 4 nights extra, but unfortunately I was having a traviling ticket.Exactly as my cusin (Who was with me) confirmed to me too, it was very fantastic hospitality in this hotel comparing with the price we got it in special offier.Despite i used to spend my winter vacation abroad for relaxation before intertainment, but your hotel and perfect services changed my thought. Finally, I want to sent SPECIAL THANKS to Mr. Gamal Hassan (G. manager) & Mr. Ahmed Abdel Rahim (Reservation Manager) for theirhelping me and making me satsfied before comming; just by their helping just in time by mail.Appreciate all your doing for me and my cosin (Eslam) to get the best hospitality. Thanks for all team of Sofitel Karnak Luxor hotel & Very Best Regards.Bassem Habiba

Sofitel Karnak Luxor: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Should probably be rebranded to a Novotel"

7th November 2012

No status recognition (as Le Club Accorhotels Platinum) at all (no welcome drinks, gift, upgrade, etc.).Room:-Big crumbles of paint/material (probably from ceiling or tiles) in bathtub.-Tap in sink partly broken.-Dirt in corners, it felt like we were the first to use the room in quite a while. When above things were pointed out we were promised that someone would come by and take a look at it, but that never happened during our two night stay.Bed was pretty comfortable and sleep quality was OK.Buffet dinner (not included) was pretty good, buffet breakfast (included) was OK.Location by the nile was nice - well kept garden and clean pool (that unfortunately closed before the sunset). On the plus side I need to mention that the hotel provided a wheelchair for my wife who unfortunately had an accident a couple of days earlier and that was very appreciated. All in all a decent stay (not taking the room issues in account), but the hotel should be rebranded to a Novotel to avoid further dissapointment to Le Club Accorhotels Golds and Plats.

Sofitel Karnak Luxor: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Nice rooms and great value but poor service and indifferent food"

18th June 2012, Hannover

Given the price the rooms are quite OK - the suites being fairly spacious, and even if they have not seen a refit in a long time, everything seems in perfect working order and clean. The AC is strong enough to cool the suite in a matter of minutes, even if you left it off for the whole day. The only gripe is that the rooms were made at a time where electricity sockets seemed of a lesser importance - in a suite there were only two - one for a shoeshine machine (which could be unplugged) and another one in the kitchen (for the kettle). The pool and public areas are decent enough, too. The view of the Nile from one side of the pool area is a real bonus and the same can be had from the Sundowner bar. Where it all starts falling apart is in service and food. The latter will seem OK, if a bit indifferent, for the first couple of days but the menus offer very little choice and the two or so 'local' dishes seem to be the things they manage to do worst of all. Even if you are tired of the burgers, club sandwiches and fish and chips, I would strongly advise against the slightly more upscale O'Nile restaurant. The selection is a bit different (a steakhouse of sorts) but given that it was completely deserted on the two occassions we have been, they appear to find it difficult to maintain fresh ingridients even for the limited selection of dishes. The 'famous French onion soup' had neither onions, nor toast or cheese, they even seemed unable to muster three matching plates for us diners. The fact that what got touted as veal filet never saw one, and was the toughest pece of meat I have ever had, did not help.Unfortunately you will not get a Sofitel typical service, either. While many of the staff are friendly by nature, they seem fairly inept overall, to the extent that one feels like having checked in at 'Faulty Towers' at times.Overall a good value for money if you are looking at the rooms only, just do not expect the experience to be akin to that in any other Sofitel you have ever seen, or to have much to do with the touted five star rating.
