"Hard to beat!"

My husband and I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to many great resorts throughout Asia since being based in Hong Kong and although we had vowed not to do the Bali "thing" until we returned home I am glad that we reneged on that pledge. I was not sure how this trip would turn out having lots of preconceived ideas about Bali holidays from Aussie overexposure.The Royal Beach Seminyak was a great surprise. Although being left stranded at the airport didn't get us off to a good start, the hotel more than compensated for this upon our arrival. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the location of this hotel made for a nice introduction to the island. Our room (an upgrade) was spacious and quite well appointed, if not a little time worn. The small verandah overlooking a fish pond was peaceful and calming. The beach was a short stroll through the lush tropical garden of the hotel grounds to a well maintained grassy verge from where you could easily take a swim in the surf or access the spacious pool. We also enjoyed the little garden pool although I would suggest that the hotel finds an alternative training space for their divers.The meals at the hotel were good and the resort went to considerable trouble to ensure that each day had a different "theme" so that you didn't get bored by the menu. Of course a la carte was always an option should you desire.There were lots of spaces for relaxing and overall I was pleased to see that the resort was not overrun by kids clubs and the like. Whilst the main street shopping was a bit of a hike away on a hot day I did find out that the hotel ran a shuttle bus to the shopping areas but alas this information came a bit too late and in any case it was hard to drag myself away from the relaxing environs of the hotel.The spa was clean and the staff friendly with good masseuses on hand. Although it isn't luxy it was more than adequate for unwinding.All in all, I would have to say that I am a Bali convert and would definitely consider returning to this resort if I had the chance. My husband concurs and luckily has said "of course we would"!
