"Peace and quiet"

Excellent stay, nice service and value for money. Introduction drinks are a nice touch and the restaurant was great. Close to the CBD if you need to go there.Recommendable for business and family trips.

We enjoyed our stay for the week, service was great, cleanliness very good and the hotels location was really good, within walking distance from Canberra CBD. This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel and all stays have been satisfactory

The first contact with the Reception was tops with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. The grounds are well tended and I really liked the look of an older building that I believe is Heritage Listed. The hotel is close to the city and also near the War Memorial and Floriade so it is very convenient. A very enjoyable stay.
"Noisy and cramped"

I have stayed at the Mercure on quite a few occasions. It is usually fine. However I was placed in a room quite close to reception, and could hear the phone on reception all night. the traffic to and from the reception also went straight into my room. Also if I was a bit larger the bathroom would have been difficult to navigate around. Will ask for a better room next time!
"Great location and service"

Recently renovated this charming hotel was the perfect place to stay for the couple of nights in Canberra. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Free car parking and conveniently positioned close to Canberra City Centre make Mercure Canberra and great location to stay. We will stay again.

Amenities were good, meals slightly better than pub standard, staff friendly. A little bit old worldly which was rather nice. A little bit noisy in the Heritage room. And a bit further away from the city things.
"An excellent short stay"

Loved the hotel. Quaint and old world charm. Especially loved the big rain shower head though the water went all over the toilet floor. The room was great and the buffet breakfast worth every cent.Perhaps the younger staff need to be trained to greet their customers with a smile especially when checking in and out.
"Another Enjoyable Stay at Mercure Canberra"
5th September 2013, gturrill, Adelaide, Australia
I first stayed at the Mercure in March this year and when I traveled to Canberra again in August, it was my first choice. The hotel is perfectly located, and it is a convenient walk to Canberra Central, and a short drive to the airport. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The Mercure will be my preferred hotel for all further Canberra visits.
"Great experience...one we hope to revisit in future."

All staff were welcoming and helpful. From reception to barstaff and restaurant staff at brekkie, you could not have asked for better-everyone seemed to be happy to be at work! We enjoyed our entire experience. The old world feeling created a homely environment. Only problem....found pillows weird, should have asked for a swap-the good things wiped that negative out, Future guests-enjoy!
"Great place to stay "but ...""
3rd September 2013, Bart2605, Melbourne, Australia
The hotel is in a great location and is good value (especially for Canberra). The building is grand, well presented and clean. Our first room was 139 with the kitchen (noisy) air conditioner outside our window. We were disappoint to have been placed in this room as we had booked six days and as staff were not surprised by our compliants. We were however relocated for our last two days into a suite which was lovely

If you like your hotels with a bit of character this ageless gem in Canberra is a favourite. Just two verandahd stories enclosing a quaint classical garden, armchairs by a warming fire and a Great Gatsby styled breakfast room .... pure escapism.
"Pretty good, not great, not bad!"
16th August 2013, Cindymac1, Brisbane, Australia
We were fairly happy overall with our stay, check-in was smooth, room was very comfortable, we had deluxe loft room, the carpets are in need of replacing but apart from that room was nice. Only a couple of things we could of faulted, breakfast buffet was just alright, I had an Accor Advantage Plus card so only paid 50% which I was glad of, I would not of been happy paying full price, food on buffet was cold and kept on having to wait for it and then things ran out and were not replaced. We called room service because we only had one fork in our room (it had a kitchenette) we asked for a fork and a sharp knife to be sent to the room as we were preparing some food, and it just never arrived. The hotel is in a great location, it has charm but is looking a bit tired and weathered.
"The Right Place"
15th August 2013, Sydney, Australia
The Mercure, Canberra has an excellent, central location and a pleasant atmosphere. The setting is quite charming, the service is good and we got a pleasant surprise with an upgrade to a studio room (good breakfast too). It's just the right place to stay in Canberra for value and location.
"Winter in Canberra"

An old world atmosphere hotel in easy walking distance from the CBD. Room was clean, tidy & well appointed. Breakfast & dinner gave adequate choice, with good service at a reasonable price. A great place to stay in Canberra.
"Mercure Braddon ACT"
1st August 2013, John K, Brisbane, Australia
The room and service was good, the location great. However, the room they gave us was right next to a compressor...fridge, freezer or air con I am not sure and we got no sleep as the darned thing cut in every 2 minutes all night and it was really loud!
"An old style renovated hotel with character and good location."
20th July 2013, Michael N, Melbourne, Australia
The hotel was very nice and comfortable, with a nice quiet location, but which is close to public transport to everything.Nice history being one of eight hotels / hostels originally built when Canberra was established. There was an issue with the pillows which smelt slightly off, like they had been used, even the two spare pillows in the cupboard were the same, but as soon as I asked for them to be changed, they were replaced promptly. This service is notable because I arrived late at night (8:30pm) and they were able to replace them promptly. The clean pillows were great and comfortable.Check in took a little bit of time, there weren't enough staff for the number of check ins.Check out also took a little bit of time, but to be fair the person was on training, so it may have been quicker if they weren't being trained. Having said that, perhaps 8am isn't the best time to put trainees on.I didn't expect to pay for newspapers! But a minor cost. Also no free wireless internet. Not the best for business stays.Breakfast was great, everything you would expect, fast service, newspapers. The bus stop is right outside the hotel and goes straight to the city centre, north side, parliament house, national art gallery, science museum, library etc. extremely convenient.Got a free upgrade to a loft style room which was very comfortable.I would definitely come back again.

Our Room was so small and we had a view of the air conditioning units that servicved the hotel. The space between the bed and the desk was such that when my husband was sitting at the desk I couldn't get past him, so I had to climb over the bed to get to the bathroom. The view was very disappointing. Had I seen the room before hand, I would have stayed somewhere else. We ate dinner in dining room, service was slow and the small slice of warm hard bread with 4 large slabs of butter mystified us. Too much butter for such a small amount of bread. I probably would go else where next time.
