"Triumph of Design over Function"
14th May 2012, Buntysdad, Croydon, United Kingdom
Good location and quiet enough to sleep with open windows as long as you are on the canal side. Nice spa even when the pool is on the small side - bit like a goldfish in a bowl. Room styling is the main down side - sliding wardrobe door leaves either hanging garments or shelves exposed and there is not enough of the latter. Also too few hangers. Lamp over working table caused repeated head banging and not very effective. The black zeppeline seating unit - you have to see it to know what I mean - was surprisingly useful for my bad back but lacked a proper parking space. Good bathroom and shower.
"Yet a pleasent stay at our regular Hamburg hotel"
7th May 2012
The location is as central as one can wish - right in the middle of Hamburg The pink champagne accompanied by strawberries on the hotels channel bank terrace on a evening in the spring is exactly at romantic as it sounds. And the standard is just as you can expect from a five stars + hotel.
"Nice time at a wunderful hotel"

Stayed at Sofitel Hamburg for the 4th time. I go back as the location is perfect as well as rooms and service. Will stay here again on my next trip to Hamburg.
"Serene and very comfortable"
20th April 2012, Hannover
The hotel is beautifully located, right along the Fleet on Alter Wall (which half of the rooms are overlooking) and about 200 metres from the very centre and the townhall (the main shopping area starts something like 50 metres from the hotel). It is pretty much what you would expect of the chain, with an effortless service, taking care of all your needs (car disappears and luggage finds its way to your room without needing to take care of it). The rooms are spacious and the decor quite contemporary - seems they were refurbished recently. There are excellent vews from the rooms and large, windows, with sills wide and large enough to sit in and read. The bed is Sofitel comfortable but the pillows are sadly of the soft and fluffy affair, so not everybody is going to find them comfortable.Small details, like providing a bowl of water and some cookies for the dog, definietly helped with making one feel welcome. The bathroom is also more spacious than usual at this price level and has a separate shower and bathtub.Did not try out the spa but did experience both the Sushi restaurant, as well as the 7 Heads bar. The former is excellent, with a fair selection (some slightly more exotic options being available, too), moderate prices and a very friendly Japanese sushi master. The bar is very comfortable, too, and the service as good as elsewhere at the hotel.Overall, it is wonderful place to spend a weekend or longer, soothing after a long day of sightseeing or shopping in Hamburg, and excellently located for exploring the centre of town.

Enjoyed the stay very much. The hotel has a very excellent breakfast buffet. The rooms with canal view to be prefer, as more quiet than the street view.More light in bath room and a better cosmetic mirror, otherwise very good standard.
"Sofitel is what Sofitel is: Nice like it should be, BUT...."
1st February 2012, London
But if you rely on their internet connection, like I did since I was supposed to do some work while I was there, you can forget all about it. The connection - that I paid for - failed every 2 min. I had to go to a coffee shop on the other side of the streeet to attend a conference with my client. That is so NOT OK for hotel like this one. This service should be at the same level as the rooms & the service, and of course included in the price that is payed for the stay. Instead of a charge with nothing in return at all.So for "Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?", the answer is...no. For that simple reason and despite all the good things.
"Nice stay"
21st January 2012, Kristiansand, Norway
Got upgraded to a Superior room as I am Plat in Accor. Very nice room, both shower and bathtub. Nice amenities! Best bed I had in a long time. Very expensive breakfast at 29 euros. Very nice service in the bar, but not very entertaining. Very hotel bar alike. But ok for a night-cap. Didnt try the restaurant though.
"Great starting point to explore Hamburg"
10th January 2012, architect_2010, St.Petersburg
We stayed here for one week to explore Hamburg and some other places in Northern Germany. Our choice (by the way it was made with the help of tripadvisor) appeared excellent. Hotel keeps one of the most central positions in the city quite close to all the cantral places of interest, fashionable shops and restaurants. Elba river and the Hafen City is in walking distance. At the same time the location of the hotel itself looks very quiete. One facade faces the canal, another - rather silent street. Our room was spacious enough, with high ceiling end excellent equipment. As we told the reception that three coffee capsules are not enough for us they supplied us with double set every day.The hotel has it's own quay and it was used for a boat trip during the New Year party that we booked in advance and finally was completely satisfied with it. Concierge servise was helpful as we decided to rent a car for a few days. They helped us with renting, everyday valet parking service and returning the car.The only strange New Year surprise we faced was the addition of 6 euro per day starting from January, 1 to our buffet breakfast bill despite it was prepayed in advance with the room booking.
"Excellent loacation"
2nd September 2011, StefanVoyager, London
The hotel is located between the Alster and the Elbe along a canal and therefore within easy walking distance of all the sights. We had a room on floor 7 out of 8 overlooking the canal. The room was spacious and look good with a large bathroom. There was free Wi-Fi internet access, but oddly access by cable was chargeable. Also the Wi-Fi access kept disconnecting which meant one had to go through a silly password routine. It can be simpler. For example in the Sofitel in Saigon I logged onto Wi-Fi with my iPhone once and each time I walked into the hotel I was automatically back on again. There are few niggles. The beds are very soft and design seems to trump function, particularly in the bathroom, but that’s a common malaise in modern hotels. However, overall and bearing in mind a reasonable price I would recommend this hotel.
"great hotel, but one thing"
1st September 2011, London
The Sofitel Hamburg is one of Europe's great hotels. Rooms, quietness, breakfast - all are 5 star. One problem - the housekeeping knocks too early in the morning. Who wants their room done at 8.15 am or 9.00 am on a Sunday? It shouldn't be necessary to hang up Do Not Disturb to prevent that. Then three more people come round to check the first person has done it properly. Sort that out, and this is 100% my favourite.
"Great weekend in Hamburg"
21st July 2011
Great Location - very helpful staff - Breakfast excellent but very overpriced - Parking also very expensive - leave the car - all the major attractions are walkable - tour bus passes the front of the hotel and harbour cruise location is a 15 min walk. Lots of restaurants at various prices including traditional fayre

Hotel rooms starting to show age. I have stayed often but felt that the food was below par. Seems like the hotel is slipping.Service was good but bed was uncomfortable. Woke up with a sore back both nights and I am in good shape.Hotel needs some upgrading for the price and star rating.

"Superb hotel in Hamburg"
28th March 2011, Norrköping
Sofitel in the center of Hamburg is a superb hotel and a good choice for both business and pleasure visits. The location is close to both nice shopping and business areas, with just a few minutes stroll to either.Rooms are nicely designed, immaculately kept and all service functions are fast and accurate. The only drawback is that the hotel - as many other 5 star hotels - still charge you for internet connection.

very enjoyable, Staff go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Breakfast was excellent. Food in the lobby bar could be improved on.
"Great hotel!"
29th December 2010, Risskov, Denmark
We loved the location, just behind the majestic town hall - government seat of the 'republic' of Hamburg. Room with a view - wonderfully decorated in a clean, cool style. The spa and pool deserve praise. The steam bath could be hotter, though. As for food the breakfast is nothing but sumptuous - anything you want: fresh blueberries on your müsli? We tried the Christmas 4 course goose-special in the restaurant and it was just delicious. We'll be back!
