I stayed one night in the suite. The room is large enough but tired looking. Everything was just ok as I didn't expected too much for a price of Hk$600 with breakfast for two. The overall experience of the hotel was below the standard of others Novotel I stayed before. The dinner buffet was terrible. The tasteless raw oyster caused me diarrhea for a whole night. The food selection was limited. I was told the A plus membership discount could not be used because of restaurant's regulation but nobody could explain me the reason. Finally, I was only offered the in-house guest discount. I would absolutely NOT recommend this restaurant to others. You should not expect too much from the buffet breakfast. It is just ok to fill up your stomach.
1. This is a non smoking hotel " the first in Shenzhen" - the first room i was given reeked of smoke, the 2nd was ok but the smell of smoke was thick down the hallway 2. when i asked to organize a car and driver, i was told the hotel does not offer that service. I asked again the next morning and the concierge organized it right away 3. knowledge of night staff of where to eat was limited - i ended up at MacDonalds at the train station 3. the beds were typical chinese style - hard. I have stayed at Mecures in China which have the mattress baffels which make you feel like your sleeping on a cloud - shame they done have everywhere 4. my one evening meal in house was spent sitting directly under a air conditioner vent in the middle of the walk way and not asked if i wanted a drink.... the food selection however was great. the restaurant was busy but there were still empty tables but i was not allowed to move. 5. i had my DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door when i went out as i don't like having people in the room when i am not around. on my return the sign had been removed and room serviced. 6. don't get your laundry done in-house. in a country with cheap labour galore one would think that getting 4 shirts, 4 underpants, 4 socks and 1 pair of pants laundered would cost the same as 1 nights accommodation. i travel all the time and this would be the highest paid yet..
I was having a short stay at the Novotel Shenzhen Watergate with family and friends. We booked 4 Suite rooms and expected to pay partly with the cash coupon from the Accor Awards. (We emailed prior to our booking to confirm if we can use these cashh coupons) When we arrived at the hotel at 2:30PM, we expected to be able to check into our rooms and drop off our belongings. But the check in staff told us that the rooms are not available, please come back in the evening! She couldn't even give us one room out of four to put our stuff at that time? After complaining, she eventually asked the cleaners to clean the rooms and let us in (at around 3:15 PM) During check-in, I gave the receptionist my cash coupon, and to my surprise, she said I could only use one coupon per room! Nowhere on the terms and conditions that mentioned such rules! I had used multiple coupons in other hotels before. I argued using the aforesaid point, but the staff was very rude and at one point was shouting at me! (She even said "Please speak in Mandarin if you want me to listen!") I asked for the manager or person in charge to explain why there is such a policy on the coupon issue, but she refused without even trying to get hold of the manager. I was very upset with the check-in experience, and wanted to complaint to Accor, so I asked for her staff number which she refused to provide. All I can see is her name plate "Christine Chang". At that point, I had to give up the negotiation because my fellow travellers (total 10 of us) were getting very upset and I did not want to affect their emotions on this happy trip. So I took the coupons and went to the room. We checked out the next day, and another member of staff had tried to tricked us not to use any coupons at all by saying the computer system was malfunctioning. However, that is their problem and should sort it out when their computer is back online. So we had been able to use our coupon. Another note, the hotel displayed exchange rate for Euros was 7.8 on the day, the checkout staff insisted I take a lower rate 7, Even her colleague reminded her in Mandarin that the exchange rate was 7.8 However, till now I was not able to see the qualifying night on my account, and my the receipt she provided had someone else's name on! I am a frequent traveller who stays in hotels almost every other week (Mainly on other hotel chains). I thought I would give Accor a try, but to my disappointment, I will never stay with this hotel ever again
This hotel not allowed 3rd person in room even we want to add extra bed. I had bad experience when my friend come to shenzhen with night train and want to spend one night with us at the hotel. The internet/wifi connection was so bad. I almost cannot access all website from my country. The bed was so hard like you slept on a rock.
