I found the Mercure Centro to be a good choice. The personnel at the front desk were friendly and helpful, and several spoke English--a real boon to a non-Portuguese speaker.The room was impeccably clean, with a great shower and comfortable bed. I rarely heard any noise at all from adjoining rooms, and very little traffic noise from my perch on the 14th floor. For my purposes, the location was convenient. One complaint: while the hotel has a small bar that's connected to the dining room, I never got the sense that it was tended. I waited for several minutes on one occasion for someone to appear to take my order; never happened, nor did I ever see anyone else having a drink there.That aside, I recommend this place.
