Excellent hotel, fantastic location, nice room, very friendly service This was our second stay. Our only disappointment was the balcony restaurant. The previous time we were there (some years ago) the restaurant sported the name of a famous french chef. They had a nice menu and food was excellent. In comparison this time, we found the menu very limited and the quality of the food extremely mediocre.View management response »

Location couldn't be better and the service was really outstanding. However the room was quite small for the proce you pay for it and also, the prices for food, drings and paid services wer quite high. On the other hand - we certainly save money in taxis, etc. as we could reach much of every place by walking.The concierge could answer every question and was extremely polite and efficient and so were all other members of the stuff, including bell boys, etc.View management response »

"Superb as ever"

Our 6th or 7th stay! Perfect location - close to West End, theatres, shops - but very quiet. The staff are all charming and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Ate out as usual so can't comment on dinner. Not the cheapest but worth it for the location and quality. We will be back - it's our treat!View management response »

This is a great hotel with a distinctive personality that is in a great location. The care and attentiveness of all the staff we came across surpassed my expectations, this is pretty rare. Reception staff, bar and restaurant staff all made you feel that your satisfaction and enjoyment was genuinely important to them. Would recommend without hesitation.View management response »

My wife and I spent a week at the Sofitel St. James for our London vacation. The location was perfect. Easy access to everything the west end has to offer; theater, shopping, restaurants, etc. The hotel itself was wonderful. Courteous staff providing excellent service. "Amazing hotel, Excellent Management, Great staff & service"

I have stayed in many of the Sofitel hotels in Europe, North America, Middle East & Europe. The Sofitel London St. James is by far the best managed Sofitel I have ever stayed in. The staff are extremely professional and courteous. As an Accor Platinum card member, the hotel honored my status and granted me an upgrade, early check in and late check out. This is definitely a gracious gesture from the hotel management.The prestige suite is spacious with two bathrooms, walk in closet and a separate living room with a sofa bed. The room has two tvs and the main bathroom is spacious with a separate shower and bath tub.Housekeeping is excellent and very clean. Guest relations staff, namely Laura, did everything to ensure that we enjoy our stay. Thank you very much Laura.All the concierges that were on duty were very helpful and assisted us locating nice restaurants and arranging transportation.The restaurant is big with nice décor and lighting. They serve delicious food and the service is excellent.This is one of my best stays in any hotel. Thank you Accor for this wonderful property.View management response »

This is a great Sofitel hotel. One of the better of the Sofitel hotels I stayed at in Europe and Africa and Asia. It's small but effective with beautiful decorated rooms and lounge areas. The bar and the restaurant had a nice design and as well tasty food. Sofitel St James is very quiet though in the very center of London! I loved it!View management response »

"Second time was better ........"

Having stayed at the Sofitel in Ho Chi Minh City and in Manila, we were impressed with the quality of location, accommodation and service and so stayed at the St. James, London hotel twice in August 2013. The first stay was at the beginning of August for three nights and after a 14 hour flight from Malaysia, we weren't impressed to be put in a small side room adjacent to the neighbouring office accommodation directly out the window. I complained and was told no alternative accommodation was available that evening but we could be changed the next day. As we had a pretty hectic schedule before flying to Venice for a cruise we really didn't fancy interrupting our plans for a re-pack and re-unpack next day so declined the room change - the hotel should have got this right in the first instance. As a silver loyalty member, I expected better and was left with the impression that having made an advance (non-refundable) purchase, I was left with nowhere to go on this one. To add insult to injury, when we advised we'd stay in the allocated room but weren't happy, the porter came to collect our bags rather than deliver them and this delayed us even further.The room was nicely decorated but the shower was tiny and I found I could't turn around in there without my body opening the door ! Breakfast on our last day came to GBP 70.On checkout, the young lady on checkout was exceedingly charming and helpful, listened generously and took note of our issues to try sort something better for our return a fortnight later.The last straw was the two day cycle race in London and having to drag two heavy suitcases a kilometre to Green Park Tube (we needed to get to Victoria Station to catch the Gatwick Express) and the hotel porters that taxi drivers weren't interested in the short trip. The porters did offer to help us to Piccadilly station but that was infeasible due to the number of steps, stairs and interchanges. Whilst we appreciate that the cycle race was not the fault of the hotel, failing to make adequate provision for the guests was an oversight and put a real dampener on our trip.Upon our return for one night (GBP 306) a fortnight later things were in better shape, a more generous room with a view and a shower I could easily fit-in (even though the shower head fell-off). Previous complaint had been noted and rectified.Full marks for cleanliness, location and sleep quality, reduced marks for (1st time) room and check-in and overall value.View management response »

As usual the stay at Sofitel St James was wonderful, perfect service, wonderful staff, nice rooms with large bathrooms (some rooms however have a not-so-nice view towards offices or pipes on the back of neighbouring buildings), really good food and breakfast and a pleasant hotel bar; unfortunately they are aware of their qualities and the price they ask for is rather high, but you get what you pay for!View management response »

Great Hotel, recommendable. Very good Location in Center of London. Excellent Service at front desk and concierge and kind attention in general.Rooms are well sized. The First Day the room Service did not finish properly the cleaning of the bathroom, but that was corrected immediately. The breakfast has a broad offer and good quality. When it is gets more crowded, the service level drops a bit. Overall we liked the stay at this Hotel a lot and will come back.View management response »

Incredible location for a holiday - walking distance to many tourist attractions. Nice hotel, good service, (luxury) room a good size. Only negative was the bed which really bad. Restaurant was just 'okay' as the food did not measure up to nearby restaurants.View management response »

Recently stayed at Sofitel in London (2nd visit). The Hotel was very clean (house keeping were amazing) the service was exceptional and the staff on the front desk were so friendly as they bend over backwards to accommodate (noting is too much trouble and they are very professional). They even took me to my room which made all the difference. I had a hand written card and chocolates delivered which felt very special also. Checkout took all off about 20seconds which was impressive. On the downside, i didnt sleep very well the first night due to kids banging in the next room till the early hours. This is the 2nd time it has occurred which isnt very good when paying these high prices. I understand it is outside the hotels control to a certain extent but maybe they could inter-space guests so they have more quiet or insulate the walls better. Other than that the hotel was amazing and i will be visiting again very soon. One other improvement suggestion if they want to be in the high hotel ratings, might be to get regular maintenance around to tighten things like the toilet seats, fix wallpaper rips, tile chips etc This hotel in my opinion is very very good if you are willing to pay the prices.View management response »
