Sofitel London St James: 5.0 out of 5 stars "The most amazing staff!"

This Sofitel has just celebrated 10 years in Waterloo Place and really is a perfect choice for business and pleasure stops. Just had stays within a week here and made quite a few demands of the staff who were all more than happy to help as much as they could - even with trying to plan the weather! On return visits the staff welcome you back as if you are the most special guest they have ever had - and they mean it! Fulfils the expected high Sofitel standards plus truly wonderful staff many of whom have been there a long time.

A couple of errors at breakfast meant that we had to ask again for or coffee and my breakfast was served around 10 minutes before my wife's. The price and standard of the rest of the hotel set higher expectations

I've stayed at this hotel several times over the years. This stay they seemed overwhelmed - the service wasn't up to the standard from previous stays.

Another nice stay in this hotel. It was good to notice that the feed back we gave on our last stay directly to the hotel was really taken into consideration. Plus, our room had the view on Pall Mall that we asked for.One minus though: the personnel right at the entrance door - not too reactive and rather cool.

Sofitel London St James: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Always lovely!"

We have stayed at this hotel 5 or 6 times, either as a couple or with our daughters. It is not the cheapest (nowhere is in London!) but for quality and position it is unbeatable. We rarely need the tube as so much is in walking distance - Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Westminster etc. but despite being so central we had lovely inward facing rooms that are beautifully quiet. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast is excellent. Most of all, the staff are invariably charming, friendly and helpful. If you're going to pay for quality in a central position, this is the place to stay. We will be back - again!

really enjoyed our stay, only stayed for one night, but will return for a weekend later in the year! The staff are excellent, and nothing is too much trouble.The room was clean and comfortable with a view of the square at the front of the hotel.Central for all the attractions.

The hotel has a style all of its own - english substance and french elegance. Its in the very heart of central london - great for pleasure, sightseeing and business meetings. My favourite place to stay in London. Not cheap though.

We have stayed at the Sofitel St James before and really love it. Would always stay here on a trip to London if we can get a deal. Otherwise I'm sorry to say it's just too expensive. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The beds are perfect and there is virtually no noise from outsde.

Excellent hotel location for central Lodon. However please be aware of their rules regarding prepay, which is what we did for a three day stay. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short by one day due to personal reasons at the last minute, and because we did not advise them of the change 24 hours ahead of time, the hotel would not refund us for the one day. It therefore ended up as an extremely expensive daily rate for two days.

Management responseI am happy that you have enjoyed our central location, close by to all London's attractions.Our prepaid stays are part of our lowest rates. It is a mutual commitment between the hotel and the guest paying for it. As a matter of fact on one hand we commit to low rates and cannot sell the room anymore as the guest is in and on the other hand the guest commits to stay a certain amount of days. In case of breach of this mutual agreement penalties occur. we booked this hotel for its position and also as we had stayed in a sofitel ( Rome )before and were very pleased with it . Service was excellent , rooms comfortable and in a very central position meaning we could walk to most of the sites we had planned to visit as well as the theatre ( 5mins to picadilly theatre ) . Wi-fi was free which is a plus point ( it was charged for in Rome but apparently is now fre there also )

I have stayed at this hotel 4 or 5 times per year for several years and have been a Platinum A-Club member for several years. Normally my stays are excellent, hence my regular repeat business. My latest stay was disappointing from all aspects, the room that was allocated to me was tiny-most hotels would have considered it for single occupancy, it was on the third floor when the hotel knows too well that my wife needs a room on the first floor. the cost was extortionate, I was charged over £400 for a room that was quite frankly awful. I will not comment on the issues regarding the refurbishment of the restaurant or the bar. I plan two more visits to London in October and November and will think very carefully about doing business with the Sofitel. It may well be that the management of this establishment don't appreciate there are other hotels in London. As a 'regular' visitor I feel most upset by the whole experience.

We were very happy with every aspect of our stay in the Sofitel St James. The staff were very helpful and treated you like family, nothing was too much trouble. The location was great fro a tourist, easy access to London westend and all forms of transport. Will definitely stay here when in London again.
