Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Convenience to Avalon airport"

23rd May 2012, garryc9, Cockatoo Australia

Jet Star offer very inexpensive flights to Sydney from Avalon. Being only 20 minutes from Avalon the Mecure offers comfort and convenience to enable a more relaxed visit to Sydney at a combined flight/accomodation cost similar to flight only from Tullamarine.

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Our stay at Mercure Geelong"

9th May 2012, diciavarella, Kyabram, Australia

I choose this Hotel often when I go to Geelong, It is easily to get to and a convenient location for us. my only negative is the pillows, next time I will request something a little firmer. I will and do recommend this hotel

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Business Trip"

7th May 2012, gmc35803, Melbourne, Australia

Excellent deal all round. We had 5 rooms and my colleages and I were very happy with the staff and facilities.

Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Central but tired"

3rd May 2012, Geelong, Australia

The Mercure Geelong is in a great position. We stay there because we are Advantage Plus members.Sadly the hotel is very tired, in need of a major renovation. Each time we have had a different room and each time it was impossible to hear reception on the phone and the air conditioning didn't work. The menu is limited and the service is second rate.

Mercure Geelong: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Oh what a night!"

1st May 2012, tomburuma, Melbourne, Australia

Had a great stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were immaculate and LARGE! Location was perfect - an easy walk to the bay, restaraunts and the local pub!

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great place to have family gather"

30th April 2012, Gordon_T61, Parkdale

Whilst the outside vista looks a little dated, the outstanding part was the service and attentiveness of the hotel staff. We used the mercure as a base for a Geelong family wedding, and from the bar staff to the front desk, they couldn't have been any more accomodating. The buffet breakfast was enjoyable, and overall for a group as diverse as us, we couldn't have asked for any more assistance than they gave us. Will certainly go back again!!

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "A positive experience"

21st April 2012, DSMJP, Latrobe, Australia

This hotel is neat and tidy, reasonably priced and only five minutes walk from the centre of the CBD; I have stayed there twice before and will stay again if accommodation in central Geelong is required. The (in house) restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. Secure parking is provided on site but is relatively expensive.

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Fantastic front office staff"

10th April 2012, Albinoosh, London

I stayed there together with my partner and 2 other couples last week for an engagement party at Mr Hyde and this was the perfect location, just a few minutes walk from the venue. Great staff at reception checked us in and the rooms turned out to be bigger than I thought with a great and comfortable mattress and pillows. On check out I was looked after by the same lady as the previous evening and she was so helpful, friendly and smiling, it was a pleasure to deal with her.

Mercure Geelong: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Not as advertised"

7th April 2012

No staff at reception on arrival and departureNo staff in barWhen staff found they were disinterestedFurniture in lobby very old, torn and filthyBathrooms in lobby in desperate need of good clean particularly the wash basinsWas used as free Accor night but what a waste. Not worth the money normally chargedNo would not recommend or stay again.

Mercure Geelong: 5.0 out of 5 stars "enjoyed the stay"

6th April 2012

We used our free night from advantage plus and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel. It has been an icon in Geelong for many years and therefore I was not expecting such a good quality stay. Credit to the company for keeping fittings and furniture modern and up to date. I will stay there again. Service was also very good.

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Quick Geelong visit"

29th March 2012, Garfield Victoria

As always had a great stay at the Mecure. Breakfast was pretty good. The only downside was that it sounded as if the water was running in room next door all night but I think it was in the building pipeworks. $18 to park my car overnight was a bit steep as well. I will still always prefer to stay at the Mecure on future visits to Geelong

Mercure Geelong: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Not What I Hoped For"

21st March 2012, Brookfield

Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed, with a really nice view. I was quite disappointed with the decision to charge $18 a night for car parking, when that really should be included in the price of the room, which was not cheap itself.Dinner was a disapponting experience. It was not a particularly busy night - the restaurant was at perhaps half capacity - yet we still had to wait 45 minutes for our dinner to be served. It would have been cheaper, faster, and more satisfying to eat in town.

Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "TOO HOT FOR COMFORT"

7th March 2012, Melbourne

I had planned a nice weekend away in Geelong for the weekend and it was going to be nice and hot so I thought 'beauty' beach, swimming pool and a nice air conditioned room.Well, it was hot and no air conditioned room, it was stifling, had to fill bath with cold water to cool down. Had heaps of crickets in our room to keep us company though.Complained to management along with heaps of other guests but they seemed to have to have a " #$@% happens" attitude. No offer of anything to make our night or stay more comfortable. They even charged us $18.00 to park the car.Not Happy Jan!The hotel is fine so I would not tick ' not recommended' it was just the circumstances of the day we were not happy with.

Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Disappointing romantic interlude"

4th March 2012, Melbourne

Disappointed with air conditioning or lack thereof. Staff changed the roomm to a cooler room but a/c didn't work for whole of stay. Paid extra for a ocean view but room was to hot hence the change. Bed comfortable and sevice good.

Management responseDear Valued 'Accorhotels.com' GuestThank you for taking the time to review your stay at Mercure Geelong, I was pleased that you found the service good, and the beds comfortableI was however disappointed and apologise to you, as I see that you experienced problems with your air conditioning system during your stay, we did experience a malfunction recently which has since been rectified however it did cause disruption to many of our guests over that weekend. If you would like to contact myself personally to speak about your particular stay, I would welcome the opportunity to assist you with a return stay at Mercure Geelong to experience why Mercure Geelong is truly a special placeKind regardsBenjamin KriegMercure Geelong

Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "just average"

2nd March 2012, whyalla

I booked a room wityh 2 queen size beds. We were served the wrong meal at dinner, this was corrected, but we had to wait longer for the meal. the hotel charges $18 a day for parking. but the car park was always full and we had to park on the street anyway. The vents in the bathroom were very dirty.

Management responseDear Valued "Accorhotels.com' GuestThank you for taking the time to review your stay at Mercure Geelong, I was sorry in this instance some aspects of your stay were not to your liking. We do have a charged price for car parking, as it allows our guest the flexibility of off street parking, as a large amount of the parking on the street surrounding the hotel is metered. Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Stayed in Geelong for a Wedding."

29th February 2012, Melbourne, Australia

The weather was very hot on the date of our stay 27/02/12 and the air-comditioning in the Hotel was extremely poor during all hours of the day and the next morning due to this we were not anble to get a good nights sleep. The temp in our room and in the dining room next morning was unacceptible and caused us much discomfort!

View management response »

Management responseDear Valued 'Accorhotels.com' Guest Thank you for your recent comments regarding your stay, I was very sorry to see that you experienced issues with your Air conditioning during your stay, however was pleased thay you through the hotel was 5/5 for location and both service and cleanliness were also equally high standards at 4/5.Unfortunately during the weekend you mentioned we had a isolated system failure with the cooling system, and with the temperatures reaching in excess of 40 degrees, although the system was reset it proved very difficult and took considerably more time that we anticipated to return the hotels temperature to normalWe are in the process of conducting a complete review of the air conditioning system, and am confident this weekend was an isolated occurrence, for which I sincerely apologiseI am always available to speak with you further should you have any queries, and can be contacted at the hotel directlyKind regardsBenjamin KriegGeneral Manager

Mercure Geelong: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Stay @ Mecure"

25th February 2012, Canberra, Australia

I recently stayed with my son @ the Mecure Geelong. I found the experience to be quite disappointing as the quality of the rooms was poor. I was a little shocked as I have stayed in Mecure hotels previously and found the standard to be far greater.

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "connection"

20th February 2012, Munich, Germany

everything was nice but I had to struggle for getting a reasonable price for internet,. It turns out that by defaults I was only offered 2 h our 1 day contracts at expensive prices. Finally I was offered the one week contract at 35 dollars which is more reasonable. (though limited in data transfer amount). However I should add that in Japan where I stay a lot, internet (fast and unlimited) is offered for free. Is that because Australia is far away on earth that is can afford to offer high prices and limited service?

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Loved the overall experience except parking charges"

19th February 2012, Melbourne, Australia

The hotel room was quite comfortable and the staff was very helpful and providing us two queen beds in the room. The buffet breakfast was really good and added to the overall comfort. The hotel charged $18.00 for the parking which was the only aspect that I did not like as the street is also paid parking so it does not leave you much choice

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great Hotel Experience"

17th February 2012, christineSmithton, smithton

we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the mercure geelong. after staying at a number of hotels over the past fortnight this was one of our best hotel experiences.from the friendly welcoming staff who quickly answered any queries we had to the wonderful dining experience with friendly wait staff and great food to the room which was beautifully clean, a comfortable bed and great view (we had a bay view room which we would recommend).i also loved the gym that was actually functionally after being disappointed a number of times in the past from other hotels over a promised gym with out-of-date and/or non working machines.position was great - very central to the city yet quiet for sleeping purposes.the only downside of this hotel was the $18 charge for the carpark which we were unaware of and added extra cost onto the room we were not prepared for, this was our only negative comment.all in all a hotel with a lovely feeling about it, friendly staff, great service, facilities, location and food.we would have no hesitation recommending it to others.

Mercure Geelong: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Consistently good value"

5th February 2012, SAMCanberra, Canberra, Australia

We have stayed at the Mecure Geelong a number of times over the past 15 months. I make my reservations on line as early as possible and have managed to score a good rate each time. The reception and restaurnat staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well appointed and most have been refurbished (although the beds are a tad uncomfortable for us) On this trip we were Intially given a room on floor 2 that had noisy airconditioning and a shower over the bath (my pet hate). However they very quickly and obligingly provided us with a suitable room on another floor. The hotel is nonsmoking throughout however on one evening we could smell cigarette smoke coming through the airconditioning. The reception staff very quickly responded to our concerns (and concerns from other guests on the same floor) and were able to track down the offending guest and rectify the situation. They also offered to move us to a room on another floor however we were happy to remain once the situation was fixed. I cannot fault the service and professionalism from the staff. The Mecure Geelong is a good value base for guests of all categories. It is not a luxury hotel but is well appointed, you are able to open the windows for fresh air if you want, has plenty of onsite parking, and it is conveniently located (within walking distance) of the main shopping precinct. We will visit again.
