"2 Days in Melbourne"
19th May 2012, momo317, Dumfries, United Kingdom
Found the hotel up a busy small street with loads of building work going on, but once in the hotel heard nothing from outside.Met by a very friendly and efficient receptionist who took the time to go through all the hotels amenities. She gave us a visitors map and other tourist information pamphlets. She talked us through the tram system, the free tourist shuttle bus and the sights it would be worth going to in our short 2 day stay. Made it very easy to go in the right direction.City centre lacking a decent, sit-down pub - most of the places were full of 'pokies' (Poker Machines) but a tram ride out to the Lygon Road area was well worth the effort to find restaurants and a more relaxed area.Would definitely stay in this hotel again

Management responseDear momo317Many thanks for taking your time to provide valuable feedback. In an ever evolving city like Melbourne and being located near the current developing end of the city, near Docklands, there is a hive of building activity and development which will be ongoing over the next 5 years, as old buildings are replaced with new ones. The team’s desire is to ensure that every guest is given the best opportunity to enjoy and have lasting memories of their visit. It is pleasing to hear that again we were able to satisfy. Pubs have needed to include poker machines in their business, there are many laneways filled with cafes, restaurants and outdoor dining venues in Melbourne to provide an alternative. Lygon Street is certainly another show case precinct in Melbourne that visitors enjoy. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.Take careMary Ellen O’MalleyGeneral Manager

"Unimpressed!"
9th May 2012, Kaboord, Adelaide
I stayed at Hotel Ibis for one night only but was disappointed with my choice of Accor Hotels. I haven't stayed at this particular hotel before and wouldn't stay there again. The service was nothing to rave about, the room wasn't what I would have expected from an Accor Hotel and there were no "extras" as in car parking on site, a restaurant open for dinner or a choice location. It might be partly my fault for not reading too much into my stay before I booked the accommodation but for a chain like Accor I would have expected better. I have stayed in an Ibis Hotel before with no issues but like I have already said, I wouldn't stay at this one again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Management responseDear KaboordMany thanks for your time to supply valuable feedback. Ibis hotels pride themselves on providing accommodation in the economy sector of the market, where rooms are compact and the hotels are centrally located. All guests are referred to a public car park which is approximately 300 metres from the hotel in Spencer Street. With Melbourne’s great reputation for dining opportunities, the hotel does not offer this service. Within 2 block of the hotel there is a choice of a dozen different dining venues. The hotel does offer an all you can eat buffet breakfast to get the day started.Once again thank you for time and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.Take careMary Ellen O’MalleyGeneral Manager

"Great cheap accomodation in the heart of Melbourne"
4th May 2012, withersclan, Melbourne, Australia
Great cheap accomodation in the heart of Melbourne especially when we got it on the a 50% off deal. Breakfast was better than 4 stars that we have stayed at and as Accor Members we got that at 50% off as well! Would stay again especially at the discount rate. A good brisk 50minute walk to th Shrine of Remembrance for the dawn service

"Weekend sty in Melbourne"
21st April 2012, Oldguy911, Sydney, Australia
Ibis is close to the bus terminal which is handy forgetting too and from the airport. It is fairly central so close to trams and trains. It is at the western end of Little Bourke St so not close to restaurants, China town etc. Clean, small but adequate rooms. The only very small problem was a thick pillow.

"Inflexible for children staying with parents"
20th March 2012, Singapore, Singapore
I check in with my 7 yr old boy they insisted I paid additional AUS 80 for a additional bed which I don't need it , because my boy can sleep with us on our king size bed. Very inflexible. In the middle of the night , a stranger knocked at our door. Chargeable Internet access in the hotel. No concierge service.

Management responseDear Accor TravelerMany thanks for your time to supply valuable feedback. Ibis is an economy brand, which offers value for money and location for its guests. Concierge department is not included in the brand standards. Reception is very willingly to assist with directions, tour bookings and other guest’s inquiries about our wonderful city. The bedding configuration for the hotel has been registered with the city council public health regulations based on 2 people per existing bedding. In the king rooms an additional bed may be supplied to accommodate up to a maximum of 1 additional person. I am sure that you will understand and appreciate the need to ensure that we honour our obligation in relation to health and safety matters.Internet charges do apply for this use in the privacy of your room. Currently we are working on having a 15 minute per allocation per day per guest of free internet based from a terminal located in the foyer. The anticipated installation date for this is May 2012.Once again thank you for time and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.Take careMary Ellen O’MalleyGeneral Manager

"Nothing special but not too bad either"
23rd February 2012, childers
I would recommend this hotel if you simply require a bed. The room we stayed at on the second floor was very small, smaller than i had imagined for a "queen" room. But it served its purpose well. You can tell the hotel is older, the bathroom fixtures etc are quite old. But all in all well presented for its age and clean. The all you can eat breakfast was good. All interactions with staff were friendly. The only real issue for us, being our first time in melbourne was the location. Which is good and bad at the same time, its super close to transport which is great, but i felt as though it was the "rougher" end of town. Walking back at 1am on saturday the street was full of drunken louts and police. Sleep quality was ok, a light sleeper may be distracted as you can hear the constant "doof doof doof" from the nightclub next door (very faintly). All in all it served its purpose as base camp for our tourist weekend in melbourne.

"Awesome location, delicious breakfast!"
5th February 2012, Kurri Kurri, Australia
We stayed in Melbourne for three nights to go to the Australian Open. The hotel was in a great location - across the road from Southern Cross Station, close to trams and walking distance to the casino, shopping and restaurants. The buffet breakfast was a delicious way to start the day!

"Good staff"
30th January 2012, Newport, United Kingdom
This is quite the best Ibis we have stayed at. All staff were pleasant and helpful from the man mopping reception floor early in the morning to the breakfast staff.Location is uninspiring but handy for Southern Cross station.
"Good value"
29th January 2012, felixVictoria, victoria
We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the hotel. As we had arrived by train it was an excellent location only 100metres from Southern Cross station. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Room was very good size, quiet with nice furnishings. Breakfast at $20 per person is abit steep but there are many cafes within walking distance that have full breakfast for $8. We used hotel as a base to go to the tennis centre, Arts centre and for shopping. We Walked to all locations but trams are at end of the street.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.thanksMary Ellen O'MalleyGeneral Manager
