"Close to everything"
11th May 2012, Jeffy0609, Melbourne, Australia
Staff are kind, friendly and will go out of their way. The setting is beautiful and has taken nothing away from the Historical significance of the building. I did not have a chance to sample the food but the presentation looks fantastic.
"Always a great place to stay"
10th May 2012, John R, Wanganui
Always a great place to stay. Handy to the Casino, Trams,Trains. Quiet, comfortable and friendly. Dissapointed in the way breakfast was presented. but this time i was only there for Saturday Sunday so might be better during the week. It would not put me off.
"Fantastic"

My partner and I had a fantastic time staying here. We wished we could have stayed longer. The room was nice and big. The location is spot on for shopping, public transport, access to the city and sporting facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
"A historical building worth better care and management"
8th May 2012
Prime location, minutes walking to Crown complex and just opposite the Southern Cross Station. Plenty of parking spaces for a CBD property and the parking rate wouldn't make you bankrupted. The building itself is a part of the tourist attractions, but the lack of bellhops and a matched luxury decoration put the minus to such a unique and impressive property in Melbourne. We've got the 40% discount rate during a promotion which make it quite affordable. The cleanliness is alright but not standing-out.Generally a happy experience but could be better if there's some improvement of management.
"Beautiful building & great rooms"
18th April 2012
Lovely few days in Melbourne & a beautiful hotel in a huge old building. Spacious room with a loft bedroom & plenty of space for the rollaway bed for our adult son downstairs. All the facilities were provided & we appreciated having a kitchen. Great location near to Sth Cross Station, Etihad Stadium & the tram lines of Spencer, Flinders & Collins Streets. My only complaint would be the lack of free Wi-Fi in the room.
"What a Grand experience"
13th April 2012
From the moment we entered this magnificent building we were greeted by friendly, efficient staff. Our 2 bedroom accommodation was extremely spacious with all living downstairs, and spotlessly clean. The beds were divine, making the morning sleep-in so achievable even for the earliest riser. We dined at the restaurant in the evening and enjoyed a lovlely meal accompanied with a very well selected wine. Our waiter seemed very knowledgeable in this department which was evident in his recommendation. The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to Crown Casino, Southbank, Federation Square, Bourke Street Mall, Southern Cross Station. the newly developed Docklands with DFO & Etihad Stadium. Our only negative we found was the reception on our TV (very fuzzY), however, with so much to do & see in Melbourne, it really wasnt that much of a problem unless you don't want to leave the comforts of your accommodation.
"overnight"
11th April 2012, welshpool 3966
We arrived at 1.30 am in morning after flight from overseas, and peacefully slept until 10.30 am which was our aim. No noise or disturbance so were gratefully for that.
"great place to stay"

having stayed here a number of times, we have always been impressed by the high standards maintained over along period of time and the great friendliness and professionalism of the staff throughout the building
"An old cosy hotel in a good location"
27th March 2012, TashAdelaide, ADELAIDE
We are members of Accor Advantage Plus, chose this hotel for two reasons, it accepted out free night certificate at a time that suited us and it's location with relationship to transport to where we wanted to go.We do not particularly like old however this hotel did have a sense of old charm. We chose to upgrade and had a room with a loft bedroom which we found very comfortable and even though our room was facing the busy train line we heard nothing of any outside noise. The lower part contained a very well set out small kitchen area with most mod cons including a coffee make, unfortunately ours did not work, a small round table, plus a comfortable lounge suite. Everything was spotlessly clean. The view from our room daytime was a bit depressing however at night it was slightly better. I am sure that there were rooms that provided a better outlook so if that is important to you I suggest you indicate it on your booking. Another point that I feel is important for older people to know is to ask for a room not too far from the elevator, our room was almost to the end of a lovely wide but very long passage.Transport was nearby, the trams to many places and also the free city loop tram plus it was a short walk to the rail station. It was just a short walk to the Casino and the Yarra river., there is a nice day river trip to Williamstown. We had breakfast twice, it was in our opinion a limited menu but fine for us and rather nice to be served. We had dinner with friends on one occasion, the menu was very limited, the reason provided was that it was changing the next day and they were out of some items. Three out of the four dinners being satisfactory , the fourth was terrible, the pieces of chicken dry, chewy, overcooked and the bacon pieces in the salad uneatable, the desserts were fine without being excellent. The dining staff were extremely pleasant., as were the reception staff. Overal a pleasant stay but would suggest not the place to stay if you do not like old.
"Great Location, friendly staff"

Have stayed before and will again love the location. the rooms and the front staff service always a good experience

My husband and I were very impressed with the Grand. I'd been wanting to try it for awhile and we weren't disappointed.Great rooms, friendly staff, excellent restaurant! First time we'd stayed and will be back soon - keep up the good work!!
"Hidden Gem!"
8th March 2012, Steve_Muller, Brisbane
I can only say how great this hotel is, I have been coming to Melbourne every month for 2 years and normally stay at the Hilton South Wharf, this trio the Hikton was to expensive so I searched online and found the Grand, the rate was half the Hilton but still 5 stars. The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way, staff were extremely helpful and the restaurant was 5 stars.I will definitely be back
"A touch of real class"
8th March 2012, dcau0812, Melbourne, Australia
Perfectly positioned in walking distance of major attractions, what a great place to spend a couple of lazy days enjoying what Melbourne has to offer. The building is unique and the presentation is awesome. Service is great and all staff are very friendly and helpful.
"Excellent Hotel in Melbourne"
27th February 2012, Vienna, Austria
The Grand Hotel in Melbourne has now for years been my preferred hotel in Melbourne. It is very well located close to the CBD and the Convention Centre, as well as only 2 minutes walking from the southbank of the Yarra River, where you find great restaurants and bars. The staff of the hotel is very friendly, competent and most helpful. The rooms are very spacious, and yes, you can open the windows :). I can recommend the Grand Hotel to everyone who comes to Melbourne for business or as a leisure guest.
"Great location for Melbourne events"
22nd February 2012, Melbourne, Australia
We celebrated our 43rd wedding aniversary with a stay over night in Melbourne at the Grand hotel. The location was perfect for us as we commuted by train to Southern Cross station , the Grand was within 5 min easy walkind distance. We dined at South Bank then went to see Natalie Cole at the Melbourne Entertainment & Centre all of which were in easy walking distance of the hotel. We had a pleaseant surprise as we received a complimentary bottle of champange from the hotel to celebrate our anniversary. I would most certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.
"Weeks away from home"
18th February 2012, wagga
The food is fantastic, some of the best I have ever had. Bed is very comfortable too. However the bathrooms leave a little to be desired. I have had three different rooms there and two of them the toilet did not flush properly. Also very close proximity can be a little annoying depending on which room you get. A good place, but not the best.
"If I could rate it higher I would!"
14th February 2012, Sale, Australia
Finally a hotel that exceeds all expectations! Now I remember why I like - love the accor brand! There is no better than this Hotel. It is a dream to stay here! The room was beautiful! The bed was awesome! The bathroom was superb! The kitchenette was fabulous! I can not fault this hotel in any way! I can't wait to return!
"What happened to Customer Service??"
13th February 2012, Melbourne, Australia
The Hotel, facilities and the rooms are lovely. A great warm feel to them, nicely furnished and the position of the Hotel is great. The room was very quiet, no traffic noises at all. The supposedly "Grand' bed that they prominently advertise was terrible. It dipped in the middle and both myself and my husband woke with sore backs, it felt like our heads and feet were higher than the middle. Mattress much to soft and no support.Customer Service was terrible, especially at check in. The guy checking us in was miserable, cold and unfriendly. Offered no information as to where we were to go for breakfast in the morning, or that it was even included in our package. Returning to the hotel late evening, a different person behind the desk didn't even look up and acknowledge us, there was no-one else around. Just so surprising, it's not much to expect a smile or just a nod of the head. Some of the front desk staff need a kick up the backside. There was an empty pillow case in the bed when we turned the covers back - hopefully a clean one but who knows.... We were brought our breakfasts in the restaurant but they forgot the cutlery. We had to go and ask for it.Loved the Hotel, and would probably stay again, hoping that next time the service would have to be improved somewhat!! Hotel - 9, Service - 1

"Bad reception"
9th February 2012, Melbourne, Australia
The two story self contained rooms are very spacious much nicer than a plain motel room. Living area and step down dinning area then up stairs bedroom. If you intend to cook in your room check everything is there before you start cooking as we had to ask for wine glasses, and cooking utencils, which they delivered promptly. We had to ask other guests where to find the indoor pool n spa. The reception gave a bad unwelcoming impression felt like 3 star apartments. But being so close to everything and the rooms so big it served the purpose.
"Grand Hotel Melbourne"
9th February 2012, Kennedys2011, Bendigo, Victoria, Australia
The Grand hotel is in a fabulous location, easy walk to the centre of the city and very close to the casino, Southbank precinct. Bus stop close to main entrance. Pool area very good. If booking a studio room, ask for one with a balcony - very nice.
"Great hotel, great rooms, great restaurant, reduced service"
9th February 2012, Bendigo, Australia
This is the latest of several stays at the MGallery Grand in Melbourne. It has all the hallmarks of an Iconic hotel (sumptuous rooms, spectacularly grand corridors and great location. The one drawback was a perceived significant reduction in consierge & porter services. It would seem to be a cost cutting measure but this is a service which sets up the experience with first impressions. After a long trip, being greeted and assisted through the transfer to room is very importand. We were not spoken to by Hotel staff until we had unpacked our own car, man-handled our luggage to reception and reached the front of the reception queue.
