"Chicago at its best"
20th September 2013, BonRepas21, Cordes sur Ciel, France
The Sofitel Water Tower, Chicago is a great place to stay. Sofitel always do everything very well, and in Chicago they are on top of their game. The restaurant, Le cafe des Architects, was excellent for dinner and breakfast, and the food was superb, at a reasonable price. Wine choice was good too. It is situated right in the action with Michigan Avenue only a block away, and Rush Street just around the corner. It is well placed for shopping, eating, and live music, and the Concierge team soon get you where you want to go. You must use them as their knowledge of what's on, and their recommendations of where to go and what to do are excellent. I can't wait to go back.View management response »

"My favorite Chicago Hotel"
15th September 2013, ReneEnchante, San Diego, California, USA
After staying at many five star hotels in Chicago, I prefer the Sofitel to most. The location is excellent, and it is an easy in and out hotel, with a very lovely lobby, with friendly and efficient service. The restaurant is perfect for breakfast and lunch , they have complimentary coffee, pastries and fruit in the morning. The beds have feather tops and duvets, and the amenities in the bath are perfect, including a loofah. Great hotel for a lot less $$$ than the 5 stars, and just as nice!View management response »

"Consistently top shelf"
12th September 2013, Tom2416, Columbia, Missouri, USA
I've stayed here many times and the highest compliment I can give is its consistency in delivering a high quality experience. By consistent I mean that year after year the experience is the same as well as consistency across departments- from bell staff to front desk to housekeeping and bar/restaurant staff. It is clear the employees are proud of the work they do and the experience they offer which also says something about the management responsible for setting the tone. Clean, modern and nicely appointed in every corner of the hotel with ample attention to small details. The bar is always well attended, but not uncomfortably crowded and the patrons typically represent at least five different countries as the hotel appeals to experienced international travelers. Kind of pricey if you are traveling on a budget, but this is one of those places where you can reliably get what you pay for if you are inclined to treat yourself well.View management response »

our first room smelled awful. we tried to move to another room, but were told we would have to spend the night in that room as no others were available. it was a terrible smell and made our night unpleasant. the following day we were able to move into another room which was much better. i only wish that the sofitel team would have at least discounted our room on that first night or comp us a breakfast, a little something for the annoyance and aggravation it caused. otherwise our trip was great.View management response »

This is our second stay at Sofitel Chicago Water Tower. Once again it exceeded our expectations, beautifully appointed comfortable room. The proximity to restaurants and shopping can not be beat. We will choose the Sofitel again over other hotels in the future.

"So nice, it makes me want to go back."
27th August 2013, Saveur1
We stayed here 4 days on a recent trip. The hotel is charming, a unique building the cab driver knew immediately because he found it intriguing whenever he drove by. The rooms are modern and very clean, the Bose radio playing in welcome as we opened our door. We were given a room facing another building taller than ours, but we asked for a change and got a room facing the SE, with a somewhat less obscured view over the city. The employees were always very friendly, the bar was always busy until past 1 am, but never overcrowded. Seemed a popular place for locals, which is always a good sign. The location is perfect, lots of cafes and restaurants within blocks, and all of downtown Chicago only a few minutes walk away. You won't need a cab unless you're looking for something off the beaten track, or you're in a hurry. Good value, in my opinion. All told, I would certainly consider the Sofitel first the next time I visit.View management response »

"Another Excellent 3-Day Visit"
27th August 2013, njfirstclass, Pennington, New Jersey, USA
It's difficult to beat the Chicago Sofitel for location, comfort and service. Staff are friendly and professional. All requests are reponded to promptly, and staff address guests by name. One of the big attractions for us (our second visit) is Cafe des Architects, superbly led by Executive Chef Greg Biggers. Among Chicago restaurants, this one stands out for quiet, attentive service and excellent cusine. Chef Biggers is personable and imaginative, and will allow guests to make reasonable requests beyond the menu. He is preparing some of the best of new American/French in the USA. Much of the menu is from local sources. This is not bistro, and not haute cuisine. It's just plain great. A special treat beyond dinner and wonderful breakfasts, was a 3-hour luncheon, with some courses added by the generous chef. Furthermore, the dining room is one of Chicago's sharpest; and a value for the quality of food and service. The hotel is very good, but lacks a full service spa. Our junior suite (an upgrade) was large, but be aware that the sleeping area and living area are not separate. Also, in warm months rooms on high floors facing West, take on quite a bit of heat, which keeps the airconditioner working. Electric driven shades help with cooling, too. The bathrooms are modern, clean and spacious. Overall, this property is sharp, caring, a value, and highly recommended.View management response »

We thank you for your reccomendation to other TripAdvisor travellers, and we look forward to welcoming you back for your third stay soon!Sincerely,Nicolas PestyGeneral Manager

My husband and I have stayed at the Sofitel Chicago many times and have always enjoyed it. However, we were a bit disappointed when the hotel did not acknowledge our wedding anniversary even though it was mentioned to us when we stayed at the hotel for the weekend 2 weeks prior. Even a bottle of water would have been welcomed.View management response »

"Good, but wanted better for the price"
13th August 2013, CactusBert, Cardiff, United Kingdom
A great location, just a few block from the Hancock Tower, Mag Mile and Chicago El Train stop. The bedroom and bathroom was massive, well presented and immaculately clean, as was the rest of the hotel. We didn't use the restaurant but the bar was good for service and drinks, with some nice free nibbles too. There were a few gripes with the size and comfort of the bed and problems with wifi, but these were because we were spoiled by another stay in a nearby, and cheaper, hotel. We had paid extra for a luxury room too, which was to be at a higher level. We ended up on the 15th floor (out of 30 something I think) which didn't seem that high to me so I'd recommend not bothering with this extra cost.If you like modern and clinical hotels, then this is for you. But for me it is very expensive for what you get and cheaper alternatives are nearby.
"Best deal in Chicago"
9th August 2013, MidwesternAcademic, Bloomington, Indiana, USA
Sofitel's breakfast drive deal is the best in Chicago. A notch beside the lake, and close to everything, it delivers location, decor, service and style. What more can one ask? My first choice whenever in town.View management response »

I am very pleased to know that you took advantage of one of the many package deals that we offer here at the property, and I could not agree with you more that our location - just a short walk from Michigan Avenue, downtown Chicago, and Lake Michigan - is simply magnifique!Thank you also for complementing our outstanding staff for the "service with style" that they have provided you in the past, and on behalf of everyone here, may I say that we look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future!Sincerely,Nicolas PestyGeneral Manager
