"An Oasis to escape the Summer heat"
10th September 2013, travellingvan, nz
After travelling for a lengthy period through Europe I decided to treat myself to a hotel with a pool. The pool was not huge - definitely more of a plunge and cool down than a lap pool, and above ground one.. but what bliss! After a day of trekking the streets of Bella Roma and melting in the 39 degree summer heat coming 'home' to the Mercure was a treat. The exterior is a little dull in a city with buildings as stunning as in Rome, but that really is just a facade so who cares. The location is AMAZING. From the rooftop you can get stunning views of the Colisseum.. and walking through out the city to all major sites is easy - and if you want to take the metro the station is 5 mins from the hotel also.My highlight -in addition to the location and pool was the staff. Particularly as a single traveller it's nice to feel so very welcomed. I couldn't fault the friendliness, the efficiency and overall helpfulness of the staff. From the maid to the breakfast servers, reception to bar staff and pool staff. All were excellent and made my stay a real pleasure. Expensive.. yes.. but if you just NEED an Oasis - this is a wonderful place.
"A great location near ancient Rome"
9th September 2013, mapman673, London, United Kingdom
We stayed at the hotel for three night at the end of August and had a very nice stay indeed. The three best parts about our stay were the location, the rooftop pool area and the breakfast. It's positioned just a few minutes walk from the colosseum so perfect for seeing all the ancient Roman sites in the morning and nipping back to the hotel in the afternoon for a quick dip in the pool. Having looked at a few other hotels before we booked, there didn't seem to be too many hotels with a rooftop pool at this price point in central Rome so it's certainly an added bonus! The roof terrace is a great place to relax with a nice view towards the colosseum. There's a good outdoor bar area as well if you want a bit of respite from the sun. The breakfast area had been recently refurbished by the look of it. It was all self service but there was an excellent selection to choose from for your breakfast and a great coffee machine as well. I had to stop myself from returning too many times for a refill. Our room had been recently renovated and although slightly on the small side it was very clean and pleasant place to sleep for a few nights. The large double bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. Our room had a slightly odd layout though. The glass doored shower opened directly onto the sleeping area and the toilet on the other side of the room had a frosted glass door so it wasn't particularly private but otherwise the room was very nice. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and they all spoke English which was useful for us since our Italian isn't so good!So all in all we had a nice stay at the hotel.
