« Scope for improvment »

A real shame about the breakfast ! they had run out of almost everything by 8.15 including milk , a bit awkward for my cereals! when I asked a member of staff they said they had no milk in stock. The staff were very pleasant and polite but had not a clue about there doing. And did not speak a word of French so lucky I could communicate in English with them.

« Well placed, efficient hotel »

We stayed in a priviledge room for a few nights over Bastille day. Room and its facilities were spacious and well designed, we had a view over rooftops to the river. However a balcony (inaccessable from the rooms on 6th floor) ran outside the windows and litter from the restaurant above had accumulated - which was off putting. The restaurant on 7th floor hss great views from inside and a terrace. The breakfast served here is generous and varied. Evening menu is very limited, we only saw the restauant busy on Bsstille Day, whrre the terrace provided a fine view of the fireworks. No separate bar as such - a limited range of drinks available from the waiters. Location is in a business quarter, easy access to the Cite Mondial car park (some 18 Euro per day to park, so it builds up). A short walk to a tram stop for a 5 minute ride to the centre, when the 30 minute stroll is too much. There is also a nearby bike hire station (V-cub / Boris bikes) which was easy to sign up to at the station, in English, and cost only 3.5 Eu for our day. Nearby restaurants and cafes on the riverfront offered good choice and great views.

« Bordeaux beauty »

We picked this Mercure because it was close to the quai where we needed to be for our river cruise. However, it had many more attributes than that. Given its location, it was unbelievably quiet. Breakfast was excellent, the room was nice and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

« Good choice »

Room comfortable, good shower. Position great and convenient. Big plus was we arrived early and were able to get into our room early (very appreciated after a long travel). Breakfast I would say was more to French tastes and for us (especially the hot dishes available) disappointing. Would stay again.

« Bordeaux breakaway »

Excellent room, nice view of the Garonne. Very friendly welcome from reception staff. Nice location for sight seeing. Tram stop accross the street. Good restaurants within walking distance...recommend Chez Dupont.

« some not so obvious advantages to the location »

Quite a good Hotel that is in a handy spot in Bordeaux but not all the good bits are obvious. We didn’t think much of the view from our window; it looked out over several sets of escalators as the Hotel is built around a modern office complex on the Banks of the Garonne. However the room itself was very comfortable and roomy. It had a really nice size television, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, therefore very comfortable. The staff we met were very friendly and could understand my version of French, they always answered in English with a smile!!!! Now the less obvious, the Hotel is just a few metres away from the Tram Stop; we were in Bordeaux four days three nights so purchased a weekly transport ticket for silly money at the Gare St Jean. This enabled us to use the tram, bus and. river boat to get around so it was handy having the tram stop almost outside the hotel. If you exit to the rear of the Hotel you are in the Chartron area of the city, I do not think this is a tourist area but you will find some very good restaurants where the locals tend to eat at reasonable prices, well worth a visit. On the Sunday morning there is the market on the Quai to the front of the Hotel, the prices of oysters is enough to make English restaurants blush. This was a good area to spend a Sunday morning in November. So there you have it, we guess it is a good business Hotel but there are some not so obvious advantages to the location for the leisure travellers.

« Reasonable, not the best in Bordeaux for the price »

Very difficult location to find, the advertised photos do not reflex the actual, site, location and services. Our room was ready, that was the first problem, when the room was allocated it was a disabled facility room, which again did not reflect the room that was requested via the internet. The roof top breakfast room was nice and the selection was reasonable, but unfortunately the terrace was closed during other times when breakfast was not being served, again that was not advised. Being located within a large commercial building did not leans itself to a relaxing holiday, parking was in the commercial building, common public parking located across the other side of the building which made heavy work transporting luggage from under ground and across the square to the lobby of the hotel, the room have no view except onto the centre of the building surrounded by office suites which did not give any privacy should you wish to have the window safes drawn, hence one has to have the light on during the day, and when you did need the lights on at night you could not have the curtains drawn. It is situated near the river promenade but a good 15, 20 minute walk to the city centre. Overall not a hotel suited for an relaxed or enjoyable stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, I gage this the compensate for the lack of atmosphere and location. Alois, form Sydney

« Less Than Expected for 4 Star Hotel »

Liked the location and size of the room.Bed was comfortable.A/C was broken and no one on site to fix.No other room available.Made for a very uncomfortable night.English comprehension of staff limited.

Thank you you for your comments on our hotel and are sorry that our service was not up to your expectations. Indeed, we began replacing the air conditioning in our establishment and restart took longer than expected. This explains the inconvenience. Please accept our apologies sincerely Cédric EVENAT Manager

« Bare bones basic »

I'd rank this hotel 2-3 stars on a good day, never a 4 star. Windows don't open, no fresh air. The hotel has no soul, no charm, beds are not very comfy -- it's a basic business hotel that's below average. Quite often understaffed. But the breakfast is good.

« Bordeaux riverside downtown visit »

Excellent location to enjoy the wonderful walk along the riverside and through the old town with marvelous atmosphere and restaurants - beware of the smokers! Very good service and accomodations, quite, fully air conditioned, very clean - no problems!

GrumpyhighlandScot 2013/08/14
« Perfectly situated »

Perfectly situated between the bustling new riverside Quai area and the noisy maze of restaurants and wine bars in the old town around St Pierre, the Mercure was clean, well equipped, and quiet. The rooftop patio was a delight for breakfast. Access by car was easy, and there is a public car park under the hotel complex which is very useful as parking in the center of Bordeaux is not easy. Only negative was that their wine bar closed at 11pm on Sunday when we were keen for another glass! There are more "charming" locations and hotels, but next time in Bordeaux, I'll be back here.
