"Mixed experience"
14th February 2013, SB-NRU, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
The strong point of this hotel was the friendly and helpful nature of the staff, every one of whom seemed to go out of their way to be courteous and attentive. The location is not outstanding being on a main road and having no views of anything but other buildings. If your visit involves journeys on the 381 or RV1 bus routes then you are ideally placed with a bus top outside. Otherwise, it is 10 minutes walk to the nearest underground station. The hotel is very handily placed for walking to Tate Modern, The Globe and Borough Market. The hotel itself is unremarkable with limited public spaces and fairly small bedrooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable but traffic noise would be a problem in warmer weather if ventilation was needed. The glazing deadened noise when closed but with windows open it was like residing on a traffic island. Breakfasts offered a good choice of both traditional English or continental. For evening meals the restaurant had a limited but acceptable choice from which the food was well cooked and presented providing good value for money by London standards. The most disappointing aspect of the stay was the fact that building work affecting the reception and bar/restaurant areas started mid-way through our stay. This involved some disruption by having to use a rear entrance and accessing bedrooms through the dining area whilst the bar disappeared altogether. This certainly detracted from our overall experience. I was informed of this planned disruption by e-mail 12 hours before setting off on our trip. I do not consider this satisfactory in any way. The work was clearly planned some time prior to commencement. I do not think it unreasonable to expect to have been contacted well in advance of our visit to have the circumstances explained with the opportunity to alter our booking. The fact that I was not given adequate notice reflects badly on Mercure Hotels and will make me wary of future dealings with the company. What is regrettable is that such behaviour undermines the excellent work of the staff at the hotel.

Management responseDear SB-NRU, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us here at the Mercure London Bridge Hotel. Thank you for posting your views. As you mentioned the staff is a "strong point" of the hotel and it is always a pleasure to hear that our team’s efforts are going unnoticed. As you mentioned we are in the midst of a major renovation of the hotel lobby area. I do apologise if in anyway you were unconvinced by this during your stay. The entire team are doing the best to ensure the process is smooth. Additionally we have made efforts to notify all our arriving guests in advance and apologise that you did not receive notice in more time. Kind Regards, Giovanni Di Marco, Operations Manager on behalf of General Manager

"perfect for visit"
12th November 2012, 71capilano, Worcester, England
Stayed for 1 night on visit to ATP at O2. Perfect location; arrived at Euston and got Northern Line tube to London Bridge, 10 minute walk to hotel. To get to O2 5 minute walk to Southwark Tube, 5 stops to venue. Pleasant, safe feeling area. Pre-booked room, non-refundable, and got upgrade. Clean, reasonably sized room. Good over bath shower. Black out blind and extremely comfortable bed and pillow - good nights sleep! No excessive traffic noise in morning (at back of hotel). Pleasant, helpful staff. Would recommend.

"Wouldnt choose this again"
22nd October 2012, Brasspenny, Isle of Arran, Scotland
I stayed here thinking it would be close to London and Tower Bridge. Well it is but its a good 15 minute walk just to London Bridge alone. I was travelling solo as my hubby couldn't join me and I did not like the walk at night back from Southwark tube station to the hotel which isn't particularly brightly lit outside and the walk back is along a couple of quiet and dark streets.Usually I feel totally safe in London soI think I'lll stick to Kensington from now on. The Tv in my room didn't work and one of the staff was very helpful, Couldn't get it working and they moved me to another room with an upgrade which was appreciated.

Management responseDear Brasspenny,I’m so sorry that you were disappointed by your experience saying with us at Mercure London Bridge Hotel. I appreciate the feedback and rest assured that we take all comments very seriously. 15 minutes for 650 yards is a bit arsh, but this is your point of view! We'll looked also at the issue you raised about the TV, this was fixed the following day, sorry for the inconvenience caused. Glad to read that our team did look after you after all...Kind regardsFlorian JourdhierGeneral Manager

"I enjoyed my stay at the Mercure London Bridge Hotel"
8th September 2012
This is a very nice, small hotel in London. The staff is lovely, always helpful, although not quite as knowledgeable as one would like. Breakfasts are excellent. The only issue had to do with the fact that is no printer attached to the available pc at the lobby, and to print a document, one has to email said document to the hotel and have them print it. Very annoying, and needlessly complicated. A printer should be made available to guests at the hotel, especially considering that we are paying for the privilege.

"London Bridge Hotel"
30th August 2012
Quite happy with the room and service. To shower meant getting into the bath. The level of the bath meant taking a large step into the bath and if the bath was wet it could be slippery and hence could be a hazard. At the end of the shower the floor was wet as the water from the shower leaked onto the floor. I used a hand towel near the area to keep the water from going over all the floor. This was my only concern. Other than this, the stay at the hotel was very good.
