"To get a few hours of sleep"

Very good no frills hotel for a short stay, to a decent price. Clean, efficient check-in and check-out with a good breakfast. I arrived late and checked out early. Friendly staff. Had some problem with finding the address in my GPS.
"The mattresses are very poor"

The mattresses are very poor. I would have expected that to be better in a hotel in Germany even though it is a cheap hotel!!! I have stayed in Hostels with much better beds.The breakfast is nice - and good value for money.

A business budget hotel - free internet, breakfast included at an additional 7 Euros. Miniscule rooms and shower and loos - basin not in the loo, but in the room itself !!!! No lift, so with our luggage, we chose to stay on the ground floor - which opened straight into the parking lot. In sufficient light in the room, so you had to keep the windows open to get light in. One wash soap for your hands and toilet paper was provided - no soaps, shampoos, conditioners or creams - we were lucky to have traveled with the amenities you expect at hotels normally. Easy connections to Koln Messe and the Dom, at less than half the price. Would recommend to anyone on a budget as comfortable and clean despite the cons.

I was not expecting much, but I would recommend you to stay in an Ibis instead of Etap Hotels. The bathroom is a joke, you can't even sit on the closet without hiting your head on the door.
