"Good and not so good"

The good: Helpful staff. Bed comfortable and warm. Central location in Angouleme. Sound insulation room to room was good.The not so good: Heating in the room was from a "reverse" air conditioner the output from which was feeble, unfortunately on one of the coldest nights of the year. The heater in the bathroom did not work at all. The extractor fan in the bathroom had a detached cover which was in the bathroom.The unfortunate: The fire alarm sounding, fortunately just after I had finished my morning shower.Recommendation qualified as the rooms need a spruce up.
"Etap Angouleme"

Perfectly located midway between Station & Town Centre. 24 hour reception which was a bonus I as I thought Etap hotels often had no staff on duty. Room was very clean & bigger than I expected, although the absence of wardrobe or shelves was disappointing. Breakfast was good value for money. Room was very quiet, although was at the back of the hotel. Made an ideal base for exploring the town.
"Functional... but a bit dirty."

It is pretty central and within walking distance from the station and city centre. However, we found that the linen was quite dirty. The towels had lipstick marks and eye makeup marks... We found hairs in the shower and a fair amount of dust here and there...Otherwise, I guess it is a functional hotel with showers and a toilet and if you want something cheapish (it could be cheaper I think) then why not but really not the most 'pleasant' experience... I however want to add that the man at the desk, Iyadh (it my memory is any good!) was a really helpful and extremely friendly man with a lot on his plate but time to help out.
"Charming staff"

The staff at this hotel were charming and helpful although perhaps more staff were needed to complete cleaning of rooms. The size of room, in our case, was very small. We have stayed in many Etap hotels across France, including Paris, but it seemed to us that this room size in this instance was rather small? However, the helpful, charming staff made up for any shortcomings and we will visit again.
