Mark and I live in CA and were visiting family in NYC before heading off to Turks & Caicos. The Sofitel was the perfect place to stay during our visit. This beautiful and sophisticated hotel was nicely located near Broadway, Times Square and the Hell's Kitchen restaurant district.

I have stayed at a Sofitel before in Marrakesh, which was an amazing experience, so my expectations were high! Unfortunately the NY Sofitel isn’t what I would call a luxury 5 star hotel. The staff were friendly especially the doorman. But it’s very rundown, the public areas look nice but the luxury twin room on the 15th floor was very tired. Be aware the mini bar is empty and there is no tea and coffee facilities in the room. You can get complimentary tea and coffee from the bar in the morning to take away but no one told us that, so only found out towards the end of the week. On a more positive note, the beds were very comfortable and the location was good.
