WE chose this hotel because it was a convenient stop over destination on our journey through France. Our problems began when we tried to find the hotel following the directions given. An instruction to follow the signs to Centre Ville and the hotel is opposite the cathedral were literally true but omitted to mention the one-way system and the lack of signs to the Cathedral. We eventually saw the cathedral and found the hotel more by luck than judgement. The carpark opposite is busy but we found a space. On request the hotel provided a luggage trolley but pushing it up and down kerbs and across a busy road was not easy. We thought the carpark charge of 8.5 euros a day was quite steep/ The hotel was expecting us but seemed unaware that I have a group gold card. We were certainly not given an up-graded room. We thought the room was fairly small and dark. The bathroom was very small with nowhere to put anything. The staff were helpful but the bar was dreadful. It was a bare room with a display of dusty soft drinks and a beer tap. When I asked for a glass of red wine the receptionist (no bar staff) disappeared and came back with a glass of some of the worst vin ordinaire I have drunk in years. We enjoyed exploring Montauban but this hotel was not up to the usual Mercure standard. We shall not be returning.
