I thought the hotel was absolutely beautiful and the location was great. For being in the city, it was very quiet. The hotel offers several very nice sitting spaces. The second floor space overlooking the courtyard was especially nice. The room was very nice and well appointed. The bathroom was clean and modern, but with old world style. The ceiling of my room was roof tiles and beams and was very authentic. The only nits were that the service in the restaurant was slow on the evening in which we ate in. It took about 45 minutes for a bottle of wine and some beers to show up after ordering. The food arrived some time after the drinks. However, as we were in no rush, the delay was no big deal. All of the other service in the hotel was very good. The front desk staff were gratious and very professional. When I return to Santo Dominigo, I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

"Comfortable Surroundings"

While on our honeymoon, my wife and I checked out the two M Gallery Hotels in the Colonial district of Santo Domingo and neither disappointed. Hotel Frances offers a large Colonial style room at a good price just off the beaten path in heart of the old city. The food at the hotel was pretty good and the atmosphere at the patio restaurant was incredible. One of the most remarkable features of this hotel had to be the staff. They were more than helpful and would literally go out of their way to do something for you, without expecting something in return. If you're not willing to part way with around 150 usd and you're more like a 100 usd a night type of traveler, rest assure you're getting a fine hotel at Hotel Frances. They'll make you feel comfortable straight away, from the welcome fruit juice drink and cold wash cloth to wipe away the sweat to palatial room and service with a smile.

"Enjoy, but pay attention and use care."

Location and hotel beauty are high points. Got beginning of May rainy season discounted rate--very good value. Most rooms are large and beautiful, as is central courtyard. Don't accept room 101--very small--stayed one night in 101 and changed rooms. Dollar rate quoted on Accor is not rate charged. Hotel multiplies the rate in dollars by a higher (than bank) exchange rate, leading to a higher rate. One downer--hotel put someone else's meal bill ($300) on my room and, with 'deer in headlights' confused look, tried twice to get me to pay it, before I had to insist that they remove it, which they did. Enjoy, but pay attention and use care.

"great place, great people,great food"

Had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Charlemagne,Isabell and crew. The food was great-try thepasta with salmon-Visited Zona Colonial historical buildings and Christopher Columbus's residence. Juan Dolio beach is certainly worth visiting. 52kms away but worth the drive. Excellent room service. Very private and personal hotel. Certaily great for lovers.

"Stay in Sto Domingo"

The hotel was well located in the old town and very close to the main square where there are many monuments, excellent restaurants, bars ewtc. The hotel is a beautifully restored historic building with a cosy feel to it. The restaurant is in the interior courtyard surrounded by plants. We paid in advance for a reduced tariff; our room was spacious enough and comfortable - nothing over luxurious but quite adequate.The hotel staff were very pleasant and ready to provide information on the capital and the country.There is internet access free in the lobby which is a bonus. On the whole a very tranquil environment and good for a stop-over in the old town.I would recommend this hotel - it does not have a swimming pool though!

We find that the hotel is perfect for us - friendly helpful staff, great breakfast, clean rooms and great location. Rooms are a bit dark as the windows are into the courtyard; however, we spend the time in the courtyard area.

"An Excellent Hotel"

We've had three separate stays at the Hotel Frances. One in November 2009 and two this past January. All three were absolutely perfect. The service is impeccable, especially with the warm welcome you receive - a glass of juice and a cool towel. The breakfast is hearty and tasty with a selection of local fruits and hot eggs.The rooms are amazing - a 500 year old building beautifully decorated. Air conditioning has always worked, rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable.The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.We will definitely be back for a 4th visit.
