"Run of the mill"
15th September 2013, NZL408, Auckland Region, New Zealand
Meet my needs. Close to restaurants and shops. Bed had a distinct 'trough' on one side (nearest the bathroom) - the mattress could do w/ flipping or replacing. But slept fine. And what is it w/ larger hotels and no free WIFI. Come on, all the smaller hotels give lots of free WIFI while big chains charge crazy prices for connection.
"Basic but good value"
14th September 2013, kiwitifosi, Tauranga
If you're looking for a hotel at the cheaper end of the spectrum, then this is a good choice. Location on the edge of the city means it is quieter than many central hotels, too. Rooms are basic but clean. Bathrooms are pretty tired, but clean. There's a good gym and pool. Car parking is snug! Staff were all friendly and helpful.
"Great central location with average facilities"
14th September 2013, MrsT2006, Sydney, Australia
Mercure has a great central location with average facilities and service. Having to pay an additional $20 per night to park in the underground carpark was ridiculous and this should have been included in the room rate or advised at time of booking.

Perfectly OK for an overnight stay. We checked in very late and they were accommodating. Room was clean – a bit tired but we were on a very fair rate. Nothing flash. Pool was good. Can’t comment on food etc
"great value for money"
7th September 2013, indiana539, Nelson, New Zealand
Easy walk into town (Cuba St end) which took about 5 minutes. Not near the main shops (10mins walk away) but that suited our purpose of eating out with people in Cuba s.t Great pool and sauna. Our room was large, sunny and clean. Helpful friendly staff who organised a late check out without any fuss. Will def. stay there again.

The room was comfortable, clean and well-appointed - with a view.. Sevice was average to good with staff quite helpful. The meals were nice - we dined early and there was no waiting - drinks were expensive!
"Great location for attending University open day, close to the city, handy to most things.Lovley views from room"
3rd September 2013, pinkybar, Auckland Central, New Zealand
Nice clean comfortable room with spacious beds with good quality pillows and bedlinen.Well stocked minibar, good to have sparkling mineral water on offer as well as the usual still.Clean if a little dated bathroom, good sized complimentary toiletries.Lovely view from our large window as we were reasonably high up.Friends on other floors said theri room, views weren't as nice.Didnt use any other services except the carpark, very tight spaces and pillars everywhere.Consequently scraped rental car rear corner on a pillar when reversing for inward opening carpark gate, not a lot of room, beware!!View management response »
Management responseDear Pinkybar,Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with us at Mercure Wellington. I am pleased that you found the location handy to Victoria University and the rooms and views to your liking.I was sorry to note that you had a minor scrape with the car. The car park exit has signage informing that the door opens inwards and also has the area that the door opens to market off.We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you are in Wellington.Kind regardsRob PooleGeneral ManagerMercure Wellington
"Good place to stay if able to get booking at special rate"
18th August 2013, Ian612013, Gisborne, New Zealand
Annoyed that although website states ample secure off-street parking doesn't mention it is an additional cost.Room/bathroom fine although could do with a makeover.Staff helpful and friendly.Free wi-fi only available in a small area close to the lobby and very slow.Restaurant good with excellent selection of breakfast cereals.Pool and exercise room good.Convenient to CBD if you don't mind a 10-15 minute walk (5mins to Cuba St)Would I stay again... yes, if I could get the special deal againView management response »
Management responseDear Ian 612013Thank you for taking the time to write your review. "Did what it says on the box"
10th August 2013, upturnedturtle, Auckland Central, New Zealand
I think my main impression of the hotel when I stayed there was that it could really do with a full refurb - you associate the Mercure brand with decent modern hotels, but this felt pretty shabby and outdated. I splashed out for $100+ per night so was expecting something a bit more luxurious.Everything in my stay was fine, no complaints except a leak in the bathroom ceiling right above the toilet (Room 210 in case management is reading this) and the tv remote having zero range (ie having to get out of bed to stand near the TV with the remote before it would work).Location is handy 5 minute walk to Cuba St and close to the uni (prepare for a LOT of stairs to get up to uni, but that's Welly for ya!)Frontdesk staff were helpful. As you can see, fine, but nothing to make me think 'wow this is somewhere I will stay next time'View management response »
Management responseDear upturnedturtle,Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Mercure Wellington. I am sorry that you had an issue with the plumbing from the room above yours causing the leak in the bathroom ceiling. This matter has now been fixed by the maintenance team.I have taken onboard your comments about the age of the rooms, the Hotel are currently working on refurbishment plans and it is our hope that these will progress by the last quarter of this year.We look forward to welcoming you back to Mercure Wellington again soon.Kind regardsRob PooleGeneral ManagerMercure Wellington
"Always a good stay"
8th August 2013, SRLee039, Levin, New Zealand
I stay in Wellington often on business and prior to travelling overseas from the local airport. The Mecure Hotel in Wellington offer excellent service and value. It is well located, close to the city centre but far enough away to grab a decent night sleep.Furthermore, I spent a month travelling arounbf the USA and Central America and in copmparison this is this an excellent hotel.View management response »

Would not stay again the pool was cold sauna cold some service was ok Didn't like that I had to go down stairs to get WI-FI . Every time I went in the restaurant I had to walk around to kitchen to find some one Had to wait in bar for 10 mins before some one came I told the guy I had no money left so I could not buy breakfast He said I could have a filter coffee then they tried to charge me 3 dollars Every morning I went down with my son to the restaurant so he could use a bowl because I brought my own food I had to work hard just to get a bowl and a little milkView management response »

Location is fine - only a few hundred meters from old heart of Wellington. Room and facilities in room were all comfortable and functional however the room generally looked dated. Services and information from service desk all good.View management response »

I had a very pleasant night at this hotel and the room was very comfortable. My only gripe is that I had requested 2 beds as I was traveling with my daughter but when I went to the room there was only 1 large bed. My daughter decided to stay with friends. Getting to watch TV was difficult (as in many hotels around NZ) as the system always comes up with the Pay Movies first.View management response »

Thoroughly recommend this hotel as a value for money option. Very central, easy to find, friendly staff. Rooms slightly dated, but very clean. Would definitely stay here again. Close to central city, Te Papa, Cuba St and picture theatres.View management response »

"Short break in Wellington"
18th July 2013, WaveBear2001, Auckland Region, New Zealand
My daughter and I had been to Wellington twice, both times we had stay at Mercure Wellington. The staff are friendly and helpful, they acknowledge and greet you even if you are walking back to the room or going into the lift. The room is serviced daily and I am satisfied with the room. It is always a pleasure staying at Mercure Wellington.Mercure Wellington is also handy to the bus stop and places like the Le Moulin Bakery (Willis Street), Victoria Street Market (on Sundays) and shops such as New World on Willis Street.View management response »
