Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Great value"

8th May 2012, PapaPancit, Gavle, Sweden

Me and my 6yo daughter and my brother stayed at Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx and we loved it. The room was very good with comfortable beds. The hotel arranged an extra bed for my daughter with no charge. The only complain i have about the room is the quality of the toilet paper. It could be a lot better, but maybe it's the best you can buy in Egypt? We stayed in a room with pyramid view and near a busy street, but is was quiet enough not to disturb the sleep. And to wake up to the view of the great pyramids of Giza is amazing! The swimming pool was good and suitable for both children and adults. Breakfast buffet with everything you need and much more. Some quite tasteless though. Good food in the four restaurants, especially the italian restaurant Romeo & Juliet. Try the desserts! I just wonder one thing: Why did the waiter use french phrases? The salads, especially the greek salad in the pool bar, is good value. Good service at the front desk, but some of the staff has big problems with english. Free WiFi, but often slow connection. Beware so you don't get ripped off in the souvenir shops in the hotel.

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Best located hotel in Cairo?"

11th April 2012, ladyoftherib, Sydney

after spending hours researching hotels in Cairo, we narrowed our search to the Giza area as we were most interested in spending time at the Giza pyramids and sphynx. The Mercure scored best in terms of price and their customer service, replying to our emails, was excellent. We requested a room with a pyramid view and a balcony and when we walked into room 3108 we were awestruck with the view of pyramids, the size of the room, the size of the balcony and the lovely gardens and grassed areas we also overlooked. This room was our oasis, great to return to at the end of a hot tiring day. The two queen sized beds were very comfortable, there was plenty of space, the bathroom had a great hot water shower.....it was a brilliant room for the price. The pool was huge and clean, lots of great sun lounges, gardens and lush grass everywhere, buffet breakfast and dinner great value, pleasant and courteous staff, a childrens play area, and a fabulous masseur in the spa.....located right on the doorstep of the pyramids complex, it was fascinating to sit up on the large roof terrace and watch the hustle and bustle of traffic and people, with the pyramids as backdrop. I highly recommend requesting a room in this wing as it is so quiet and peaceful.

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "An oasis in the desert"

29th February 2012, Perth, Australia

Our taxi driver from the airport was not aware of the name change from Sofitel to Mercure, but once we found the hotel, it was an oasis. Such a contrast from the world outside! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the bar stunning. The hotel organised a car and guide to take us to the Pyramids and sightseeing. Both were excellent.

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Good but don't pay extra for pyramid view as you won't sleep"

9th January 2012, London, United Kingdom

Friendly staff and good accommodation, but breakfast of poor quality (chemical orange juice in a country where they don't know what to do with their orange production, as an example). The noise in the street for the rooms with a pyramid view is beyond belief.

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Mecure Cairo Le Sphinx"

26th May 2011, Cairo

This hotel was very lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. A perfect location as well. Not all the rooms have a view of the pyramids, but we were lucky enough to get the room with the best view. We would definitely stay there again.

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Nice enough hotel, noisy location, pictures of proximity to and view of pyramids are flattering"

15th December 2010, Windsor

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was ok, although very close to a main road which our 'garden view' room looked out on to. We requested to change to a quiter room with an actual garden view twice but no luck.Bad points -NoisyNo food and drink allowed from outside hotel! (They scan all bags and make you throw stuff away - unless you tip/bribe them)Confusing currency arrangements - booked on accor.com in GBP, got email confirmation in EUR stating that it would be paid in local currency (Egyptian Pounds) but when arrived we had to pay in USDVery expensive car service/shopsGood points -Not far from PyramidsFree WifiHappy hour in barClean/modern

Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel: 2.0 out of 5 stars "I cannot recommend at all..."

10th December 2010, Coruña

We expend some days in Cairo and for the last ones we book in this hotel to be closer to the Pyramids and visit them without any rush (and avoid the Cairo traffic). This hotel is at 800 meters from the Pyramids entrance. The installations are OK and the room was nice with a great bed. Noise wasn't a problem.Breakfast are very complete (the bird sized glass deserves an special mention). But this hotel pretends to be in some place in Europe, so it charges you with european prices. A can of coke, that in any supermarket/fast food in Cairo cost you 2,5 egyptian pounds, cost here: 20. For dinner (low quality buffet style) expect to pay 400 egyptian pounds for two persons. (A great restaurant in Cairo can charge 200 for a complete dinner). The hotel DOESN'T allow bring food or drinks from outside (they XRAY your bags also), so for me this a covert theft. The views to the Pyramids are nice but only from the pool (don't waste your money picking a superior room). Also because Cairo polluted air, you can only see it from noon to 4 pm. (sunset is 5 pm). The pool is infected with fly's.WiFi is only available in the lobby, and the rooms are provided with wired access. And the last hotel attempt to take my money away, they pretend to charge for a taxi to airport 230 egyptian pounds. We go outside and picked the first of hundreds of taxis available's, and the trip only cost 90.We din't stay in, but the Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel is closer to the Pyramids and also to a couple of restaurants, so It could be a better option.
