"Cairo trip"
8th March 2013, ErkinHuy_Belgium, Huy, Belgium
I was very glad to have chosen this hotel. Everyday evening, a service room asked us if we needed something. The hotel is well situated just in front of Giza pyramids. Outside of the hotel, there are plenty taximen available. I was also positively surprised by the price of a meal delivery in the room. It is around 8 euro/person or 11$ which is quite low for a meal made of meat or fish. The personnel of the hotel is very friendly and kind. They were able to help us in different situations.Tip : be cautious with people outside the hotel. Many of them say "I work in your hotel, can I help u". In fact this is not the case, they just want to sell u some of their products.

"Amazing hotel across the road from the pyramids"
8th January 2013, Brendan_Irvine, Goreme, Turkey
I cannot fault the hotel - the room, staff, meals, pool and gym were all exceptional. You can see the pyramids from the pool. The only slight drawback is that it's a long way from the airport (over 1 hour) and nothing is in walking distance once you've seen the pyramids, but thers always a taxi out front. I am heading back there.

"Great Value minus Location"
29th December 2012, Sanben29, Mumbai (Bombay), India
We stayed Mercure Giza for five nights with our ten years daughter in December third week. The location of the hotel is near to Giza Pyramid (Only and single location advantage). Rest of the tourist attractions and Cairo Downtown are at distance of 40-50 LE taxi ride. The choice at this time of this hotel was relaxing so as to avoid the fear of demonstration in Cairo. The breakfast was sumptuous and full. The staff including reception staff is courteous and helpful. Room service was good except the refilling the room inventories like tea and coffee sachet etc. Swimming facility was very nice. The central security guys were also helpful to the occupants. We could manage to connect WIFI in the lobby for Two out of Five days. The hotel management was trying to sort out the issues but in vain. This was serious lapse as we all including my daughter were dependent on emails, FB etc. Many occupants were asking each other the availability of WIFI in the lobby. The management should have put up board in the lobby of the non-availability of WIFI.There are neither eating / pizza joints in neither the vicinity nor any convenient store nearby. The pizza guys are not allowed to deliver inside the hotel. We ordered PH pizza and waited at the main security square to get our delivery. There is on takeaway called Falafel five hundred meters away towards road to Giza square. You will have to cross the square and walk towards Giza pyramid before Gas station this place is located. They serve Falafel, Colette, French fries etc at very reasonable price. We visited Alexandria, Sakkara, Giza pyramid and Museum. All the places with private taxi available in front the hotel (of course with fierce bargaining). Airport pickup and drop charge 120 LE each which is more than any downtown hotel. We recommend Mercure Giza for the travelers which are not hesitant to use Taxi for stepping out. The nearest Metro El Giza to Hotel taxi took 30 LE, which was multifold of the Metro Ticket we paid, which was 3LE from Tahrir Square to El Giza Station.Hotel should do seriously something about Lobby WIFI availability uninterupted to the patrons.

Management responseIt was a pleasure to have you staying in Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel. We are extremely happy to read your satisfaction throughout your positive feedback. We deeply regret the unforseen incident of Wi-Fi service, it was a technical mulfunction from the supplier who tried to fix it but unfortuntely it took them 3 days to get it back.Hopefully it won't take long to see and welcome you once again. We take the chance to wish you and your family a new year full of happiness and may all your wishes come true.Sincerely,

"great service mostly but needs a price check from managment"
21st June 2012, KellyB980, Cairo, Egypt
key winner was service from room service, pool staff and some front desk. rooms were rennovated. had a dampy smell to them however. we had three rooms all suffered from the same. no free wifi/internet access in rooms which was against what was advertised while booking. breakfast menu had a good variety but general food qulity was quite poor. the breakfast staff was the least perfroming in the hotel. poor english, looked rundown and untrained and perfromed accodingly. In general F&B prices need serious revision from Accor management. they can gain lots of customers if they slashed them genourously.Pool is poorly desinged with sharp drop to 3.25m making the pool quite unusable for for relaxing with a drink.P.S. the pool guard (Mohamed) was extremely attentive and a real pro, saved a kid while we were there. Chapeau!overall decent stay mainly by the pool. Free sauna was a plus. In all, great effort from the staff .

The service was great! Really enjoyed our stay. I could recommend this hotel to anyone who just wants to see the pyramids (2-3nights is enough). The restaurant at the top has nice views of the pyramids.Very close to the pyramids, about a 10 minut walk...the pyramids are great, but be ready to be harrassed a million times, on your way there as well as inside.Minus: The surroundings are a bit noise, you can hear the traffic from the pool etc...our room was a bit noisy since the balcony was toward the street, but I mentioned this right after check-in, and we were given a quiet room the next morning (actually we got upgraded too, thanks for that!)All in all, had a great stay

"Great value"
8th May 2012, PapaPancit, Gavle, Sweden
Me and my 6yo daughter and my brother stayed at Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx and we loved it. The room was very good with comfortable beds. The hotel arranged an extra bed for my daughter with no charge. The only complain i have about the room is the quality of the toilet paper. It could be a lot better, but maybe it's the best you can buy in Egypt? We stayed in a room with pyramid view and near a busy street, but is was quiet enough not to disturb the sleep. And to wake up to the view of the great pyramids of Giza is amazing! The swimming pool was good and suitable for both children and adults. Breakfast buffet with everything you need and much more. Some quite tasteless though. Good food in the four restaurants, especially the italian restaurant Romeo & Juliet. Try the desserts! I just wonder one thing: Why did the waiter use french phrases? The salads, especially the greek salad in the pool bar, is good value. Good service at the front desk, but some of the staff has big problems with english. Free WiFi, but often slow connection. Beware so you don't get ripped off in the souvenir shops in the hotel.

"Best located hotel in Cairo?"
11th April 2012, ladyoftherib, Sydney
after spending hours researching hotels in Cairo, we narrowed our search to the Giza area as we were most interested in spending time at the Giza pyramids and sphynx. The Mercure scored best in terms of price and their customer service, replying to our emails, was excellent. We requested a room with a pyramid view and a balcony and when we walked into room 3108 we were awestruck with the view of pyramids, the size of the room, the size of the balcony and the lovely gardens and grassed areas we also overlooked. This room was our oasis, great to return to at the end of a hot tiring day. The two queen sized beds were very comfortable, there was plenty of space, the bathroom had a great hot water shower.....it was a brilliant room for the price. The pool was huge and clean, lots of great sun lounges, gardens and lush grass everywhere, buffet breakfast and dinner great value, pleasant and courteous staff, a childrens play area, and a fabulous masseur in the spa.....located right on the doorstep of the pyramids complex, it was fascinating to sit up on the large roof terrace and watch the hustle and bustle of traffic and people, with the pyramids as backdrop. I highly recommend requesting a room in this wing as it is so quiet and peaceful.

"An oasis in the desert"
29th February 2012, Perth, Australia
Our taxi driver from the airport was not aware of the name change from Sofitel to Mercure, but once we found the hotel, it was an oasis. Such a contrast from the world outside! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the bar stunning. The hotel organised a car and guide to take us to the Pyramids and sightseeing. Both were excellent.

"Good but don't pay extra for pyramid view as you won't sleep"
9th January 2012, London, United Kingdom
Friendly staff and good accommodation, but breakfast of poor quality (chemical orange juice in a country where they don't know what to do with their orange production, as an example). The noise in the street for the rooms with a pyramid view is beyond belief.

"Mecure Cairo Le Sphinx"
26th May 2011, Cairo
This hotel was very lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. A perfect location as well. Not all the rooms have a view of the pyramids, but we were lucky enough to get the room with the best view. We would definitely stay there again.
"Nice enough hotel, noisy location, pictures of proximity to and view of pyramids are flattering"
15th December 2010, Windsor
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was ok, although very close to a main road which our 'garden view' room looked out on to. We requested to change to a quiter room with an actual garden view twice but no luck.Bad points -NoisyNo food and drink allowed from outside hotel! (They scan all bags and make you throw stuff away - unless you tip/bribe them)Confusing currency arrangements - booked on accor.com in GBP, got email confirmation in EUR stating that it would be paid in local currency (Egyptian Pounds) but when arrived we had to pay in USDVery expensive car service/shopsGood points -Not far from PyramidsFree WifiHappy hour in barClean/modern
"I cannot recommend at all..."
10th December 2010, Coruña
We expend some days in Cairo and for the last ones we book in this hotel to be closer to the Pyramids and visit them without any rush (and avoid the Cairo traffic). This hotel is at 800 meters from the Pyramids entrance. The installations are OK and the room was nice with a great bed. Noise wasn't a problem.Breakfast are very complete (the bird sized glass deserves an special mention). But this hotel pretends to be in some place in Europe, so it charges you with european prices. A can of coke, that in any supermarket/fast food in Cairo cost you 2,5 egyptian pounds, cost here: 20. For dinner (low quality buffet style) expect to pay 400 egyptian pounds for two persons. (A great restaurant in Cairo can charge 200 for a complete dinner). The hotel DOESN'T allow bring food or drinks from outside (they XRAY your bags also), so for me this a covert theft. The views to the Pyramids are nice but only from the pool (don't waste your money picking a superior room). Also because Cairo polluted air, you can only see it from noon to 4 pm. (sunset is 5 pm). The pool is infected with fly's.WiFi is only available in the lobby, and the rooms are provided with wired access. And the last hotel attempt to take my money away, they pretend to charge for a taxi to airport 230 egyptian pounds. We go outside and picked the first of hundreds of taxis available's, and the trip only cost 90.We din't stay in, but the Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel is closer to the Pyramids and also to a couple of restaurants, so It could be a better option.
