"good value"
13th January 2013, royprops, Chichester, United Kingdom
We have stayed in Budapest 5 times and had stayed at this hotel once before and tried other hotels this is the best value hotel i have stayed in Budapest. No tea or coffee in rooms unless you upgrade your room. The tram service into the centre of Budapest is very good, did not have to wait more than 5 minutes. I will book this hotel again for christmas markets

"Top Notch!"
22nd November 2012, wairs, Singapore, Singapore
I was very impressed with Mecure Buda Hotel. The lady who served me and my boyfriend was extremely kind and helpful. She provided us will all the necessary tourist information on arrival (including maps, guide books, etc) and we didn't even ask for it. She even recommended a place for us to buy breakfast because she said herself that the hotel breakfast was expensive. Overall service was top notch! The room was great as well. Was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, the room was warm and toasty on a cold day, and most importantly the toilet was clean and provided us the necessary toiletries.Absolutely no complaints! (Oh, and the lobby has a great mural of Buda and Pest :))

"HOTEL NEEDS FRESHENING UP"
25th October 2012, louigi1011, Nieuwerkerk aan den Ijssel, The Netherlands
From the outside and in the lobby nothing seems to be wrong with the hotel Mercure Buda. That changes once you enter your room. It is clearly oldfashioned, with dark brown wooden panneling and a non-descript carpet on the floor of which you can see that numerous guest have already used it. Than there is the tramnoise; right underneath my window, somehow, the Budapest trams manege to make a scraping noise which keeps you awake. I cannot complain, however, as the hotel tells you not to open the window. I wanted to sleep with open windows (and turned off the airco). They have renewed the bathroom, but there is still this oldfashioned bath, which makes taking a shower rather dangerous and difficult, instread of a decent shower and (at least in room 433) there was from time to time a slightly sweetish smell as if the toilet didn't work properly. The smell was not bad enough to ask for another room, however.

Management responseDear louigi1011,We appreciated the time and the care you took to evaluate our hotel. We are terrible sorry that the noise of the neighbouring railway station caused discomfort for you. Providing comfortable rooms is very important for us. At Mercure, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. We are very anxious to share with our guests our Privilege Level rooms that can cater the most sophisticated needs as well (comfortable double bed, coffee-tea making facilities, LCD TV, rain shower, luxury amenities in the bathroom, bathrobes, slippers...) and the supliment for this extra comfort is just a small sum I think. Looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future.Best regards,A. Nagy

"Tranzit unrecommanding hotel"
31st August 2012, mkijhnbjyugvytfc, Iasi, Romania
Personall hostile, without a smile. I paid 150 euro guarantee for rooms although morning I saw few people in my situation, probably because I am romanian? In the reservation conditions did not write anything about warranty.
"general review"

Hotel is very close to the palace within walking distance. It is also very close to the metro but the parking is quite expensive, $16 euro/day. Breakfast is good with different variety. In general it is good value for the price,

"good hotel but carefull about credit card authorization"
2nd June 2012
Generally this hotel is in a quite place and little for away from the city center. Good atmosphere and clean hotel. Problem what we faced in the hotel is : we have booked this hotel using our credit card, so on arrival the receptionist took our credit card and checked and he was also authorizing it. After an hour I got an e mail from my bank informing that this hotel has charged some thousands of HUF using my card. I got shocked and called the reception - the answer I got was " this is just a deposit amount" . It really very bad, because you must ask the customer before you charge anything on my card, even its for deposit - still they should ask me. I dont understand what is this deposit, I made the whole stay payment a week earlier, before using our service - is this is not an deposit? Then I talked with the reception - they told its normal deposit , we dont charge u anything if you dont use any of our additional services like mini bar etc., At the end, before checking out I asked again to cancel the deposit amount because we have not used any additional s. What the receptionist told me is " he will do this cancellation later" . I still dont know weather my deposit is cancelled or not? . According to me this is not correct, the management of the must take some action against this. They have to ask the customer and then take the deposit, but not just like that. I could have paid the deposit in cash. You know , the whole 3 days I was thinking what will happen with my credit card, how much more they will charge.....such things. You can not enjoy the tour if things like this happens in hotel.I hope after reading this review this hotel will change its deposit policies and make easier for tourists to enjoy their stay. Otherwise people of this hotel were friendly.Greetings to all readersPrasanna

Management responseDear Prasana,I really do appreciate the positive nature of your feedback and was happy to read that you had generally a good experience while staying with us. Our goal is to provide a totally satisfying experience to each and every person who stays at Hotel Mercure Budapeast Buda and the international Mercure standards are great assistance for us. We take pride in our award winning customer service and understand the importance of attention being given to the smallest details that make the biggest difference. Regarding credit card authorization I have to tell you this is a common procedure in quality hotels all over the world. Authorization means that, while the money has not actually been paid to the merchant yet, your available credit is reduced by the amount of the authorization, so that the credit is set aside and cannot be spent at another merchant. Naturally after checking-out we always inform the card issuing bank in order to unlock the reserved amount. Certainly those who don’t have a credit card can leave cash deposit as well. Thanks again for taking the time to post your thoughts on Trip Advisor and for choosing Hotel Mercure Budapest Buda for your needs in Budapest.Regards,A. Nagy

"Our experience"
23rd May 2012, Neatsb
While we found this hotel to be in a good location, the floor we were on was very shabby, and our room also.
View management response »
Management responseDear Neatsb,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We are very pleased that you have selected our property when visiting our great city! Sorry your stay wasn't 100% to your satisfaction - but I do hope we get to accommodate you again one day. We of course value our location as one of the leading selling points for Hotel Mercure Budapest Buda. We are very fortunate to have spacious accommodations with nice view, part of which have been recently refurbished in a modern style that is reflective of the Mercure brand. Though we are working tirelessly to ensure that all of our accommodations exceed our brand standards in terms of conditions, it does sound as you may have experienced one of our few standard rooms which were designed in the 90's when "minimalist" was the style of choice. However our newly renovated privilege rooms are simply beautifull, very well supplied (double bed, coffee-tea making facilities, LCD TV, rain shower, luxurious amenities in the bathroom, bathrobes, slippers...) and the supliment for the extra comfort and treatment just a small sum.Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your observations.Best regards,A. Budapest is a very affordable city and staying at the Mercure was a treat. The resteraunt was wonderful; we ate there every night. The air conditioning in the room was not adequate and it was in the 80's during our trip. The wifi was free and the signal was strong.

"GREAT HOTEL IN A WONDERFUL TOWN"
31st March 2012, Zwijndrecht, Belgium
Carpet in common areas such as restaurant may be refurbished. The hotel location is very convenient next to a major metro station and a tramway stop almost within 100 metres. Good view on the castle district.

We consider ourselves to be fortunate as the fundamentals of the hotel are particularly good. My overnight stay in Mercure was so perfect - clean room, comfortable bed, free bottle of water, tea, coffee, teapot. "for business only"
14th January 2012, Los Angeles, California, USA
Over all not a bad place for the value if you are just on business. Not the best location if for leisure. If they offered breakfast at these room prices it would be much better. Rooms were clean and Bathrooms had shower only. Very close to trolly and train station so there is some street noise at night.

Management responseDear Valued Guest,Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I greatly appreciate your feedback on the value for price paid as well as the compliment on the cleanliness of your room. In my opinion we are a reasonably priced hotel offering good value and services, and apart of our excellent location - to visit the historical Castle District you needn’t to walk more than 10 minutes - this is the major reason why most travellers put their votes to us. Our rooms are equipped for our clients wishes and supplied with all the modern conveniences. A quick note on the bathrooms... we have rooms with bathtub. Regarding the noise coming from the streets we can not keep it away completely as we are a city hotel, but the air is all day fresh, and the wiev from the windows to the Buda Hills is simply wonderful. Many thanks once again for your comments and for the positive nature of your review. I do hope we get to cater to your needs again in the not too distant future. "Avoid the pre-authorisation of your credit card"
7th January 2012, London
I decided to stay at this hotel as a group of friends had already booked rooms there for the New Year festivities. The deal on the website for a three night stay was very good for a hotel of this standard. The hotel is less than five minutes walk from Budapest Deli station, but would benefit from some signage as it was difficult to work out which way to go when I reached the surface from the Metro line.Checking in was painful as the receptionist was far more interested in acting as a tour guide that checking people in. Eventually a second receptionist appeared and the check in process was fairly quick. At check in, I was asked for my credit card to pre-authorise any expenditure put down to my room. As I was going to eat there on New Years Eve, I agreed to this. I had a similar experience at Mercure Bratislava, which worked very well. When I came to check out, I asked for the cancellation slip for my pre-authorisation and was told that they had to inform their bank to cancel it and could not do it then as the bank wasn't open. I had no option other than to accept this and will be emailing the hotel for them to confirm that the pre-authorisation has actually been cancelled. This is totally unacceptable and brings discredit to the Mercure brand. A system must be set up allowing for these pre-authorisations to be cancelled at the time of checking out. If this is not possible, they should stop doing this. The staff varied from the very polite to the downright objectionable. One member of staff accused a friend of having had too much to drink when he complained about a WiFi fault. He was stone cold sober at the time. The room was very good, apart from the toliet seat that broke. In view of the problems with checking in, the inability to cancel a pre-authorisation and the rudeness of the staff to a friend, I am unable to recommend this hotel. Spend a little more and stay at a hotel that understands customer service
