"Too much noise"

The hotel was nice enough - nothing special - but there was a very irritating noise that would go off every 2-3 minutes from 7am to 11.30pm+ every day.I spoke to the assistant manager who said work was happening within the hotel, but the hours were limited so it shouldn't be an issue.I went back to my room and there was an apologetic fruit basket left, and a promise that any noise would be kept to a minimum and would only occur during regular business hours.A long day behind me I wanted nothing more than to come back to my hotel for a shower and relax.The shower almost exploded when you put it on with too much pressure and the top part was also falling off. It needed to be used at half power to be OK.The noise, however, returned every morning and every night and reduced any pleasure in staying in this hotel - despite its great location within the city.On the plus side, when you leave the hotel you are easily within walking distance of the hop-on, hop-off bus that takes you all over Shanghai. This is a great way to see the city and allows you to get off and on as many times as you like within a 24 hour period for 30RMB.However, due to the noise and the requirement to pay for internet usage within the room I cannot recommend this hotel for business use.

Nice hotel, best and strategic location in shanghai. good services and kind staffs, but a little bit complain, the room was not large enough, too small.

I like this hotel for its strategic location right on Nanjing Rd - the main road of Shanghai Puxi. The room however is a little bit old and need some renovations.

The room not as good as shown in accor website (much older), the bathroom totally different with the photo also, far from my expectation. Compare with Humen and Guangzhou Sofitel which I used to stay there, this hotel much inferior for Sofitel standard in China. I'm not complaining about the service or cleanliness, but the room and bathroom standard, also the amenities (the slipper quality similar with nonstar hotel in China). My opinion this hotel not qualify as a Sofitel Hotel.

The concierge service was a bit indifferent at times but on the whole a great location and hotel and would recommend to others. Did not use the hotel for food so can not comment.

We are Accor Advantage Plus members and the room we stayed in was quite old. There was a hitch when we checked-in, they would want us to pay to be upgraded to the Superior Club room??? Aren't we even entitled for a FREE UPGRADE, being Accor members?? After much discussion, we were finally "allowed" to stay in a regular room for which we had booked months before. It is really a disappointment as to how they treat Accor Advantage Plus members, which is why we are having second thoughts about renewing our membership.On a lighter note, the hotel is situated in a very good location. Everything else was very good.

Great location and easy access to Shanghai Metro for easy access to airport and getting around the city. Pre-paid at this hotel and they had my Accor informastion but front desk didn't treat me as a Platinum member of the loyalty program should be treated. This property has smoking and non-smoking rooms on the same floor which is unusal. Beds in the rooms not made up Western style which they were at the Westin and in Beijing. I would have expected more from a property that is considered 5-star and upscale. Hotel Manager & Rooms Division Director non-existence during the 4 days stay. Traveling with a co-worker who was staying at The Westin Bund who had a much better hotel experience. This Sofitel Accor managed property has so much potential but needs to work a several things. Perhaps things will change when the new Sofitel property opens in Shanghai. I would stay at this property again because I know the expectations of this property now and hopefully they will treat guests all the same and not based on "first" appearencnces upon check-in. Meals at this property were all good and service staff nice to the guests the days I stayed based on my experience and observations.

we were given a room on 10th floor. The bathroom is extremely in need of repair with paint peeling at the bottom of the door and the plug of the bath rusted. The bathrobes offered were tattered and old and my Salvation Army store in Brisbane would not even accept them.I have stayed in 3 stars hotels in provincial China with much better conditions. Even the Cairo Hilton has better bathrooms. The carpet on the hallway at the elevator area is worn and dirty and smelly. A disgrace for a 5 stars hotel.

The hotel is located right on the main shopping strip in Shanghai. We staying in the club room, it was fantastic!! Breakfast was included and also happy hour in the evening, which included drinks and supper. The room was a good size and ours had a view of the shopping strip. I would stay here again.

Nice hotel,easy to shopping, eating.If you want to take picture in Shanghai Bund,don't be too late,before 9pm ,the light still open.If you want to get foot massage,walk a little bit longer (behind tall building of Nanjing road), it's cheaper than in Nanjing Road area.The comparison is abt 1:10.but don't expect too much for facilities

I usually stay in club floor rooms, but decided that I would try the standard rooms this time. I was very surprised that only the club floor rooms are renovated. With the rate charged and surrounding old and new hotels with modern fit outs and designs, the value for money (for standard rooms) is ridiculously low. I will choose other 5-star franchise with better value.Overall service from all deparments have drastically gone down since my last stays.During breakfast I saw a waitress dropped a napkin that she collected from a guest on the floor that had water spill and she proceeded to wipe the napkin with her foot.Waiters and waitresses were indifferent, almost everytime I have had to get up from the table and approached them for service.I would however like to commend one of your restaurant staff or captain, his name is William. He left a very good impression and made my meals much more enjoyable. He never stopped checking on guests in the restaurant and he cleared most of the tables, because the junior crew were just indifferent and did nothing other than stood around what seemed to me like day dreaming.

I always enjoy my stay at the Sofitel Hyland in Shanghai. It's a nice stop before my trips home, and I've stayed in the same location many times.

Spent 4 nights at this hotel on business. From the moment I was directed to check in on the 30th floor Exec Club, my experience exceeded all expectations. The staff were always bright and happy. Most spoke very good English. I never had to wait for anything, taxi's, room service, breakfast, laundry and even an IT problem were dealt with instantly.My room on 26th floor faced The Bund and had a view of Oriental Pearl TV Tower, North up Nan Jing Rd East. Bed was excellent, linen was top quality, furnished well with great bathroom and accessories. Breakfast was excellent with an array of Western and Eastern food. Once I went with my Chinese associate to the Exec Club happy hour on 30th floor. The spread was an excellent variety of breads, cheeses, pastries, dumplings and so on that was sufficient for me as dinner. Wines and beers were free, although I made the mistake of thinking cocktails were also free and enjoyed 2 Long Island Iced Teas, which were quite well made and priced Ok at about CNY85.Location was great close to subways, shopping and The Bund. Just watch out for the touts as soon as you walk out of the hotel, especially in the evening. If you're a Westerner be prepared to be ofered everything from bags, watches, massages, and so on. My advice just keep walking, do not engage them. I had a haircut at the hairdresser on the southern corner of Nan Jing Rd just opposite hotels 1st floor entry. They quoted CNY168 for the haircut but when I got the bill they had charged me for treatments, masage and blow dry as well, pushing the price over CNY1000. I bargained down to 350 but still paid overs. So give that place a wide berth.Shanghai is a nice city and quite safe. It's quite chaotic, but it's an organised chaos. Sofitel Hyland hotel is an oasis in this crazy environment. Highly Recommended

Great location. Staff very attentive. We stayed on a Club floor. It is worth paying the extra as the evening happy hour is very good. Nice food and wine. Breakfast was nice, if you want more choice go the restaurant buffet on the 2nd floor where you have more food selections, highly recommended. The rooms are a bit tired. However very clean comfortable. All the electric power went off in our room but the staff arrived in a matter of minutes and repaired the fault very quickly. The conceriege was very helpful and translated a few messages in Chinese for us. We would definately stay at this hotel again.

When I knew the location of this hotel is Nanjing road, I directly choose this hotel. Till I check in, I was impress of the service, hospitality and cleanliness but when I took my breakfast tomorrow morning... I just realized that there is nothing always perfect... the taste of the food is really tasteless....I am really sorry if my comment is not nice but I should tell the truth to be considered as the fair input and hopefully there will be improvement for that matter.

Everyting is o.k. except this time there was misunderstanding of the booking amountof the rooms that took one hr to finsh the check in. But so far, the service is good. I future, the internet booking should be more clear.

We were very disappointed with the Sofitel Hyland...it was very run down. The rooms were very tired..small pokey bathroom..we asked twice for another room [stayed there on & on over 2 weeks]..we also found some of the breakfast staff to be quite unfriendly..like we were a real burden to them..after staying at the sofitel in Ningbo where we were treated like royalty, very friendly staff, gave us an upgrade without asking..very new & clean..lovely :}The Hyland is probably still good value considering we only paid $115 on wotif...but its not good for a Sofitel Hotel...The location is Prime..Best spot ever, so for that reason it is good..so for that reason i recommend it

Location of the hotel, at the center of the city, being convinience. Next to it being the walking street where shops and many resturant around. Taxi can be easily found and very near to the subway station. Overall the room is nice, however, some facilities looks old - carpet, cabinet, bathroom deco and, some not function well - safe box, toilet. The staff service overall can be accepted - fast reaction
