ibis Vichy: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Vichy stopover"

17th April 2012, 88Iceman, Jersey, United Kingdom

we made an unexpected stopover in Vichy en route from Cote d'Azur to Brittany. Excellent location, really couldn't be better; secure lock-up car park at no extra charge a real bonus in France. Restaurant opening hours most welcome after a long drive. Staff efficient when busy. Very well located for a quick city spin before leaving in the morning.

ibis Vichy: 2.0 out of 5 stars "a very tired hotel"

18th September 2011, confit, somerset

The whole hotel was tired and required a total refurbishment worn out fittings and very early morning noise at the rear with all the deliveries and staff outside for a cigarette break. not a pleasant experience

ibis Vichy: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Second choice but not second rate"

2nd March 2011, Eastbourne

I visit Vichy regularly and usually stay at the same group's Thermalia, which was closed for a couple of months while they refurbished the restaurant. I have found most Ibis hotels to be tired and in need of some sprucing up, but this one was modernised and well up to the very high standards one expects in Vichy. Located next to the centre, close to the parks and spas (annexed to the Thermes Caillou in fact), the staff are attentive and helpful, the room and bed were comfortable, the bathroom well-fitted (I would have preferred a bath to a shower). I had a room at the front, rather noisy in the mornings so if like me you are a late riser, ask for one at the rear. My only real reservation concerns the dining room; it's perfectly adequate for breakfast (although real coffee, not from a vending machine, would be preferred) and lunch, but dinner requires a little more atmosphere. That's easily remedied in Vichy of all towns, just dine elsewhere, such as the The Thermalia which has superb cuisine. Despite my caveats this hotel is very well recommended and good value and I'm tempted to save money by staying there next time (but I'll dine at the Thermalia).
