Beware - the advertising says "located downtown" and this is misleading, i's not 'downtown' the old city, it's downtown the 'new' city, so don't think you can stroll out of the hotel straight in to the Old City (as implied and a number of disgruntled guests also thought). Then the blub claims "The medieval city and Canal du Midi are a short stroll from the hotel". It is not a short stroll, in fact the opposite side to the City's main entrance and you certainly would not want to walk back in the dark after a nice meal if you did get to the City. Worse - the room was not as advertised (1) no extra bed for children (2) tiny bathroom (a large person would have had to use the toilet with the door open to fit in) (3) we did not use the shower because it was filthy with black grime between the tiles. There were no snacks available as advertised, bad because the nearest restaurants were closed and people were amazed we wanted to eat on a Sunday.
When we arrived at reception the person was on the telephone. She thrust out her hand several times expecting a piece of paper perhaps? We said we would wait until she had finished her call which she did within two or three minutes or so. We gave our name and she asked for our credit card. We said we wanted to pay for that night. After a look of disgust and exasperation she replied we had a booking for three nights and it was necessary to have the card's details. We replied that we had three separate bookings of one night each therefore we wanted to pay for that night only as we may not be staying any longer. We like to book separate nights as we have a small aircraft and are weather dependant. At that we received another look of disgust! We have to say we have never had such a cold welcome anywhere before and particularly at Ibis Budget hotels where we have found the staff very friendly particularly at La Rochelle. We found the internet very bad indeed. We kept being cut off and can only think it is to encourage people to pay the premium service. Later that evening we cancelled the following two bookings and found out that her name was Victoria. We will certainly not return to the Carcassonne Ibis centre hotel. It is such a shame we shall in future keep to Ibis Budget hotels. Sally & Gordon
This hotel was overpriced for the facilities it provided. Although it was a short walk to the Mediaval City, the hotel did not meet the normal standard of an Ibis. It had very small bedrooms and an even smaller shower room, which was almost unusable. The rooms were also in need of refurbishment. In addition, the breakfast area was very cramped, especially when hosting a coach party! We have stayed in Ibis hotels throughout France and elsewhere in the world and this is without doubt the worst value for money we have experienced. Its location means that the room charges are higher than normal but it seems that very little investment has been made in upgrading the hotel. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I stayed for one night in this hotel. It was very noisy (looked like the walls between the rooms and the hallway were made of cartonbord) and thus hard to sleep, the rooms were very small (even compared to the other 3-star Ibis-hotels) and they looked more like those you can find at youth-hostels, and the bathroom was tiny. Price-quality: totally wrong, too expensive for what you get. Good things: friendly staff and okay breakfast. If you go to visit the old town of Carcassonne and don't care about having a sub-standard hotel: find yourself a cheaper one! If you want a stay with a good night rest: look for another hotel, there must be some better in this town. Distance to the old medieval town is okay for any normal tourist, distance to the railway station is 1km
Not up to the usual standard in the case of location to the main town but well placed for access to the fort and castle and the restaurants. The service was "civil" but not outstanding and they ran out of food for breakfast. The building was old and the rooms were small but very clean but it just about the only place in town to stay so can't complain really. They gave us the breakfast for free when we complained.
Smaller room/bathroom than normal Ibis. Very warm friendly welcome from staff. Medieval city 10 mins stroll away, Bastide 5 mins stroll away. Pay parking available in hotel or across from hotel in underground secure car park. 2 mins walk to river, 15 mins walk to canal du midi & railway station. Lots of walks, black mountains 15-20 mins drive away. Would definitely stay @ this hotel again 😊
