"Excellent value for money"
20th May 2012, bernd22, Nuremberg
I am staying in hotels about 100 days a year so I guess I am able to judge quality and this hotel definitely is a good one. Despite when you arrive the hotel facade displays a bit the age of it the rooms are excellent. The quality of the beds nice, the windows are noise insulated, only downside was that the AC obviously at this time of the year was not switched on and the whole hotel was very warm. A bit too much for my taste. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly the breakfast was nice and selection was OK for a three star hotel, internet is free and works well and the parking was free too and is located safely beside the hotel and secured with a bar. A five minutes walk and you are in the center of the historic city. Excellent value for money.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights between the 2nd and 5th Sept 2011. Our reason for visiting was to take our daughter to University there for her erasmus year abroad. The hotel was very welcoming. The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. The rooms were quite spacious but plain. The 'air-con' was not terribly effective (it was 30 degrees when we were there) but it sufficed and one of the bedside lamps was not working. However, the rooms were very clean, plenty of towels, they were very quiet, and, most importantly (and unusually for France) tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The location was good for us as we had to access the university campus on that side of the river. it was also much easier to access than our previous hotel as Besancon has roads that have barriers and it is often difficult to access the one way streets easily to access the hotels in the centre. Parking can also be limited at other hotels The centre is only a very short walk from the centre and is located opposite the tourist information office and the hotel offered free parking on site.Breakfast was buffet style with limited hot food and a mix of organic products and standard fresh bread, cheeses, ham, etc. There was some prepared fresh fruit in bowls, yoghurts, etc. The coffee was poor but the expresso machine did better coffee, although not good. The tea bags were actually of very good quality. Service was again very good at breakfast. We had one evening meal at the hotel on our day of arrival and this was well prepared (although not cheap). You can select a 2 or 3 course set menu for a fairly reasonable price for a hotel. The wine was poor though and the glass served was very small for the price. The bar was pleasant with good service - prices are again quite high for drinks. Thereafter, we went into town, which is a short walk away. We have a favourite restaurant in Besancon which serves consistently good food and wine at a fairly reasonable cost (comparable to the hotel), but sadly I cannot recollect the name. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the hotel and would definitely use it again.

Good hotel, but am somewhat annoyed that it was not possible to get so much as a coffee in the bar at 1500h. I would also like to see more english language television channels. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
