The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Not what I expected"

18th May 2012, 865MichaelR, Bedford, United Kingdom

This is my first experience of the Accor M class hotel. I was very disappointed in the quality and value for money. The bathroom was in need of replacement. The mattress was long overdue for replacement and the view was of a roof.I rarely pay 240 euro a night for a hotel and expected a lot more. My wife who accompanied me on this conference visit was more than disappointed after seeing the hotel on the website and excited to stay in central Amsterdam did not enjoy this hotel at all. Having stayed at other Accor hotels in Belgium and Netherlands in prior evenings at a fraction of the cost, this hotel ranked the worst.

I've stayed here a number of times now and the Hotel has been a consistent companion with everything you need from proximity to transport links and enjoying the City, makes a welcome break after some arduous travelling and testing business meetings.

Nice and clean hotel with a good location. Not so good - Got a room overlooking a dark courtyard (stayed 3 nights). Missed a evening restaurant.

Hotel very close to Central Station (less than 10 minutes walking or one stop on the tram). Very secure (key card to use elevator). Quiet room (not facing the street). Close to cafes and to shopping.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Remarkable place in Amsterdam."

1st March 2012, Moscow, Russia

Remarkable hotel in the center of Amsterdam, in 5 minutes from the Central Station. In silent street, around it is a lot of cafe, and also history monuments. Hotel very cozy and comfortable for high-grade rest after walks. Soft beds, and cleanliness in number have very much pleased. The personnel is very friendly and affable. In the following trip, I will necessarily stop in this hotel.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "I´ll visit AMS and stay in this hotel again"

29th February 2012, Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Very good Hotel with fair price. The servoce is very god and the team work very efficient. the Chenk in and Check out was quick and friendly. I´ll recommend this Hotel in AMS.Regarding the price, I think it´s fair but expensive for s tourist. However, considering it´s location, it´s a good choice. I´ll always try to use accord hotels in Europe and South America.

Excellent service - tremendous rapport with staff, very friendly, very helpful - efficient, smart and positive in attitude..... TV in room not working...repaired, but still not totally 100%... lovely public rooms.... bathroom not 100% - dated and difficult fo staff to keep totally clean... breakfast excellent - breakfast staff 100% - efficient, friendly and helpful...BREAKFAST MENU V. GOOD BUT WE ARE VEGETARIANS, SO WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED SLIGHTLY MORE VARIETY IN THE HOT OPTIONS - reception quick, efficient both on arrival and checkout...left luggage good - offers to carry, call a taxi, etc, etc. Central in city - chose room at the front to see the animation of the city - little noise! Slight disturbance from neighbours next door and above but not obtrusive - overall an excellent 3-day experience - good value!!

20th February 2012, Portia9, San Francisco

Went well beyond our expectations. The location was ideal; our room was spacious and very comfortable and worth the modest upgrade cost. Every employee we encountered was most helpful and friendly. We stayed three nights, and returned after two weeks traveling. We were able to store luggage we did not need outside of Amsterdam. A request had been made for our same room, and when we returned we were greeted as old friends and our room was ready for us. We would love to go back.

this was our first stay in the Convent Hotel. We had visited Amsterdam before, so knew it was a great location. We were able to store our bags until our room was ready. We had a superior double room which was really a suite, absolutely enormous, bed very comfortable. Satellite TV with BBC channels which was useful and free wi-fi. Staff were friendly and helpful. Also enjoyed the lovely cocktails in the bar.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Well located hotel in Amsterdam"

16th February 2012, bren53Cork, cork

Stayed in this hotel close to the Central Station during the first w/end of February which was during a heavy snow in Europe. The rooms are very large and comfortable which is unusual in Amsterdam especially in the centre of this unique city. I got this hotel on a 1 night free deals which made this hotel excellent value. Amsterdam is a very expensive city for weekends year around at full nightly rate i would be slow to book. I did not eat at this hotel also the breakfast at over €23 appears excessive. So i ventured out and eat at a near-by which was under half price.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent experience"

14th February 2012, Chicago, Illinois, USA

The Convent's services were stellar! The location is so convenient, walking distance from Central Station and most attractions. FYI...On their website it shows the hotel overlooking a canal, it does NOT! Our rate included the breakfast buffet which was well above average. My only complaint was that the room furnishings were a bit tattered, and carpeting & upholstery was soiled.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent Hotel in Amsterdam"

12th February 2012

Overall impression was very enjoyable. Excellent location for sightseeing. Rooms very comfy and quiet. Lots of restuarants pubs nearby. dam Square five minutes walk. Weather was very cold, ice and snow. Only issue was ramp into hotel was covered in carpet which got wet and one of our pary slipped down the ramp onto the tiled floor. Lucky nothing serious but this needs to be addressed.

Wonderful hotel with lovely staff - thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could answer all questions. The bar area was lovely and right opposite tram stop which was very convenient.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "A good value stay"

30th January 2012, Nottingham, United Kingdom

A midweek three night stay often qualifies for an excellent bed and and breakfast rate (3 nights for price of two) so would also be good for a leisure trip. The hotel looks more historical and smaller on the outside than on the inside - but the room I stayed in was comfortable and made for a good business base with free wi-fi and a usable desk. The bar is pleasant but it is a shame that you can't get the room service menu served in the bar. Plenty of places to eat close by. the staff are friendly and efficient and I would recommend getting an ACCOR A-Club card if only for the ease of checking in.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Great location, great staff but not so great room."

26th January 2012, Mastee, Oslo, Norway

Went there with my girlfriend for a romantic holliday in Amsterdam. The location and staff was great. We got an upgrade and a welcome gift, but was a bit dissapointed as the bathroom was really old and freezing. The room generallt look as if it could do with some maintenance (wallpaper, carpet). The TV did not work (but they fixed that quickly). Also there was a very creepy painting over the bed, and from their website it looks like they have these kinds og pictures in all rooms. Might be a positive thing if you are into arts. Bed was great, and no noice from outside.Had a great stay in Amsterdam, and the hotel was ok, but not great. I expect more from a 4 star hotel.

The Convent Hotel Amsterdam - MGallery Collection: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Well located, ex-Sofitel repositioned by Accor"

23rd January 2012, constaise, paris

Located at walking distance from the Central Station (which is the main point of arrival even from the airport), many trams are stopping in front of the hotel, including the number 2 which is serving the Rijsk and Van Gogh museums. It is also at walking distance of the Dam and of almost all the heart of the city. This hotel used to be a Sofitel until this year where Accor has switched it to its new brand "MGallery" which is dedicated to hotels that has got a "character". Many rooms are a little too small but the amenities and comfort are of high standard. The breakfast is too expensive but you can have a cheap one across the street in a bar. The hotel is quiet and the global style is nice (the hotel has been build inside past old Flemish institution including a convent that has given the name to the hotel). Overall a little bit high-range of price for Amsterdam holidays but worth the investment for atmosphere and location.

Close by the Central Station The Convent Hotel is ideally located for exploring the city and its many attractions on foot. The staff are frienly, courteous and more than helpful, which added to our enjoyment. Our room was as we anticipated, comfortable, clean and fully equiped. An added bonus is one of the best breakfast buffets we have had on our travels.Definitely a "return to" hotel...we have already recommended it to our daughter and serveral friends.
